    INFERNO

I'm blown away like all the others here. I love classic space and I love big bases. This is the perfect combination. Looking at your flickr stream, did you repurpose the moon base into inferno base, or do they co-exist? I love the moon base, too and the yellow space ship on it. Simply awesome.
  2. Yes, I tried that, but the straight line looked more elegant. Even though that might be just a function of LDD. The sloped tiles looked a little mesy with their slightly rounded corners. I plan on putting some monstrously large torpedos there. The way the thing has evolved (my LDD file calls it a "light fighter", hah) I'm thinking of it as a long range torpedo bomber, used to either disrupt commercial shipping or to attack capital ship fleets far from the main theaters of war en masse. The drone is meant to defend the bomber against interceptors while it tries to get a torpedo lock. I had started the build with the cockpit and it was meant to be a modular concept where you could attach the cockpit to a variety of main body parts. Sort of like a freelaner ship that the privateer could configure depending on what the mission was (I have too much time to daydream it seems ;-). The cockpit actually still detaches the way it's built now, but in the long range bomber sense I intend it to be an "escape pod", in case the lonely bomber pilot gets shot down behind enemy lines. Thanks :o) I'll think of one!
  3. Thanks, Bert! Glad you like it. Yeah, that's been bothering me, too. Thanks for calling it out. In a way I've found the arches (http://brickset.com/parts?query=6060) to be really limiting. It's been such a freaking headache to get everything to lock up without gaps, that I'm not keen on changing the main body again, so when experimenting with the 88292 just now, I couldn't find a good use for them. I've potentially found a different solution to smoothen the transition, though. See what you think: When building the thing for real I'll add two or three more 6060s to the back to extend it to be as long as the wings. Yeah, the drone was a bit of an afterthought. I'll think of something as I build it. The 6060s again prevent me from embedding it more. I have only one plate I could potentially still remove. We'll see. Thanks for the thoughtful comments! Very much appreciated.
  4. So... I've made some progress on my earlier WIP. Main body is now way more bulky, changed the rear section completely and, after lots of back and forth, decided to get rid of any kind of fin on the top and put a removable missile drone there instead. Landing gear an some details still mising, but this is what the new version looks like in the original color scheme: Given that I don't have many black and yellow bricks I looked at changing the color scheme and think I like this one better: More shots: And finally, the drone separately: What do you think about the changes and which color scheme do you prefer?
  5. Thanks! I experimented with red/white/grey, too, but this seemed most fitting. Thanks for the ideas. I'll experiment with moving the guns below the wings. I quite like the straight edge at the front. It has something mandible-like. I've thought about this section as a bit of a multi-tool that you'd be able to attach different stuff to, depending on what the goal of the mission was. E.g. sensor arrays for scouting, a downward facing rotatable gun for planet-side engagements etc.
  6. Thanks, but let's see if I can also apply that taste to stuff I build myself. Just posted my first WIP into the matching thread over in the sci-fi forum. See what you think
  7. Hello, new member here (see intro post here). This is my first build since 1993 or so :-) I'm trying to apply some of the techniques I read about in the last two weeks following my rediscovery of Lego. I'm quite happy with the cockpit and angled wings, but the overall proportion of cockpit/wings/main body doesn't feel right. The main body and engine section feel quite whimpy and bland. Also not sure about the laser guns attached to where the wings angle down. Would love to hear what you think and any tips and ideas you might have on how to improve proportions and engine. Thanks!
  8. I wasn't, but you just changed that. Neat! thanks for the hint :-)
  9. Hello there, While digging through boxes in my parents attic to see what I could pass on to my 2-year old for X-Mas I chanced upon my old lego sets. A flash of childhood memories and bam, my brickaddiction, dormant for almost 20 years, came back. I went online to look for instructions to my old sets and realized I own most lego space sets from the late 70s and early 80s. Through the Brickset website I found the bristling community on the web, incredibly inspiring MOCs and the Lego Digital Designer. Fast forward 2 weeks and I've learned about SNOT and am well on my way to my very own space fighter LDD MOC. So here I am looking for tips, tricks, ideas and a bit of a thought exchange. Some personal stuff last. 37, married, 1 son aged 2. Love travelling, reading and quite a bit of geeky stuff. Oh, and Sci-Fi. Look forward to meeting you all.
