LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion

Looks like the links got zapped and the pictures have been taken down. Having had a good look at the sets, they are a bit of a mixed bag for me but my feelings are generally positive. I suppose you could say that I'm impressed, but not as impressed as I wanted to be! Spinjitzu Training - A nice impulse set with 2 fully kitted out ninja's and 3 small builds the largest of which appears to be a weapons rack. I see a staff piece with a huge fist on top! An easy buy. Ninjago City Chase - Basically "Lego City Meets Ninjago" or "Lego Asian City" if you will. A lot of stuff going on here in a $20-$25 set but with no ninja or sea army minifigs and no vehicles for either side, nothing in this set interests me. It's almost as if this isn't a Ninjago set... But I can see where others, City MOC'ers in particular would find this interesting. Master Falls - It's....okay...I guess...A decent landscape piece and good minifig selection for the price. I had higher hopes for this set and I was hoping the bridge would be a city bridge vs. a wilderness bridge. Need to see more pics and probably a review. Manta Bomber - Looks good. Very true to its animation model. Would have been nice if Jay had...something...to fight it with. But overall a nice set for the price and a probable purchase. Nya's Water Strider - Looks decent. Reminds me of the Tripods from the War of The Worlds movie with Tom Cruise. Definitely a victim of downsizing but not as much as: Green Ninja Mech Dragon - Another set I had high hopes for...and then I saw...the head. Considering that this is a mech I'm puzzled as to why they wouldn't go with a brick built head??!! Maybe...given this is an initial concept...they went with a brick built head on the final model...? The set is okay, but just okay with the head in its current form. I wonder if Garmadon's weapon has a shooting function? A minifig bazooka? That would be cool. Lightning Jet - Looks good. But also looks like it's going to fall apart the first time a kid actually plays with it. The giant technic rubber missile is also disappointing. Come on Lego, with all the new "shooter" pieces you have developed over the last 3 years, it's time to retire this as well as flick fire missiles. The secondary model looks pretty cool though! Would like to see a review of this. The jet looks like it could be a smaller model, but one that contains a lot of pieces. Fire Mech - Looks great! I agree with other forum members though that the knees had better be able to bend, especially in a set in this price range. Also, I don't see any obvious action features and again, a set in this price range should have a lot of them. It certainly is a fine display piece if you are an AFOL, but if I'm a parent buying this for a child, then it better be able to do other things besides pose! Ultimate Ultimate Weapon Temple - The stone lions are great. But I was hoping for more color in the building. Looks okay, but need to see more. Good minifig selection. Destiny's Bounty - A masterpiece! The definitive model for that vehicle. I notice a pattern with this wave in that almost all of the builds (certainly the larger ones) only contain one model/build. Not sure if I'm a fan of that. But it does look like the models are highly detailed which I suppose makes up for the lack of secondary builds somewhat. The models I am most looking forward to are Zane's Triangle Tank and Cole's Unicycle Mech, so I am eagerly awaiting news of the second waive! Hopefully we get in package pics and piece counts for this wave soon! -

Thanks Penkid11 & Scarilian for clearing that up. Some of the names looked a bit "iffy" to me as well and quite frankly a bit too...simple. I guess this will be a situation like the Hands of Time wave where the Dawn of Iron Doom set had a prelim name of "Disastrous Dusk" I believe. Will be interesting to see what the final names look like vs. the placeholder ones. But, based on the info that Sir von Lego shared earlier, I believe that 70607 might be the set with that police vehicle, the marketplace stall and lamppost and that 70608 is the set with the bridge build Wu, Garmadon and the Skeleton. -

It is around 5 months before the movie release. But it's only 90 days until the official release date of the sets (August 1st) and 75 days or so before they actually hit the shelves. That means that we should start to get more info on the sets in the weeks to come. Just a guess on my part, but I think we should have pics and set details on the mass release sets by end of May - early June. Okay, I'm confused. Are you saying that all the set names posted on Brickset are theoretical? Or just the remaining 2-3 sets that have yet to be confirmed (presumably the retailer exclusives). Just2good said one of them is the Shark Mech/Shark Walker. I believe that the majority of the recent update was done by Huw himself, so they would have to be the actual sets names, yes? If it's just the unknown sets that Puffle Pal26 posted theoretical names/descriptions for then yeah, I agree, better to put nothing at all. -

Thanks @Sir von Lego for all of the info that you provided to us. Yup. I can see the temple being 70616 and Zane's tank going to Wave 2 with Cole's Mech to split up the Ninja's vehicles. The bridge set is, apparently, pretty big (I think Sir von Lego mentioned this before he deleted his comments) so perhaps it is 70611. Perhaps the Police Vehicle/Lampost/Market set is 70609 (MP = Market Place?) -

With all due respect to Tragic Banjo (I don't recall other members identifying him as someone with "insider knowledge" like Just2Good or Sir von Lego) I don't know whether he said that Cole's mech is not in wave 1 because he actually knows that or whether he was just guessing based on set initials and what we knew based on other posts/process of elimination. That's why I was hoping that Sir von Lego could confirm if Cole's mech was in this wave or not. Although I agree with Scarilian that at this point, the only thing on the list that it could be is 70611 or it's a retailer exclusive. -

Sir von Lego, are you able to tell us if Cole's Mech (the one wheeled black mech) is on that initial set list somewhere? -

TPLSTER21 replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Yeah, that was my thought as well until I saw Tragic Banjo's post. Don't know if he has any insider info or if it's just an educated guess on his part, but I guess we will know soon enough. Actually BZPower did say specifically in their summary of TLNM sets at NYTF that Cole's mech was not shown among the collection of Wave 1 sets that were at NYTF. However, BZP only accounted for about 8 sets in their summary of what they saw and they also said that Zane's tank was not on display either. Cole's mini figure was on display. That could be done easily enough. There is probably some kind of "kickstand" integrated into the model that allows it to stand up unassisted. -

Wait. What? Oh crap! I love the design of that mech and I'd hate to have to wait until Wave 2 for it. It's weird that all of the other ninja vehicles release in wave 1 and they only hold one vehicle back for wave 2. Unless the ninja's have other vehicles that we don't know about! But, I think you're on to something there. The initial "code names" seems to use the ninja's first initial and the first letter of the vehicle name. I.E. "LD" = "Lloyd's Dragon". "KM" = Kai's Mech, etc. I don't see any code starting with "C". Also, Cole's mech has "Quake" printed on it and I believe might have been referred to as "Cole's Quake Roller" or some such thing and no letters corresponding to that either. Has anyone else heard anything about Cole's mech not being in the 1st wave? I figured there would be 2 waves, but I also thought that all of the main stuff (i.e. the Ninja's vehicles in the trailer) would be a lock for wave 1. -

Thanks for the tip, but I'm afraid I don't know enough about Lego to take advantage of it! Someone a few pages back mentioned that Cole's mech might use the rear wheel from 70595 Ultra Stealth Raider, which I can see working. Still can't figure out which set # Cole's mech is though... -

Great to finally see some set photos! Hopefully we will start to see more images in the weeks to come. I must say that I'm quite surprised that Kai's mech is a larger set than Lloyd's dragon. When I first saw the trailer, I thought that Kai's set would be a candidate for a significant downsizing (like to a $30 set level downsizing to spread out the price points of the Ninja's vehicles) and that the dragon would be Top 3 in terms of piece count/pricing. I see now that mech looks to be quite substantial size-wise (hard to tell from the box, but scaled to the mini fig it looks like it could stand 11-13 inches tall including the banners) and also looks pretty true to its appearance in the movie. However, it doesn't appear to have much in the way of action-features which is a huge pet peeve of mine with "Action Themes" and mechs in particular. I'll save my rant on that though for when we see more of the set. I hope it does more than just stand around! I know other forum members are commenting about the mech's downsizing, but quite frankly it's very slight at most. Need to see better images of the dragon set but in a way, I'm happy that it is at a lower price point and has an excellent selection of mini-figs! I wonder though, where Cole's mech fits into the set listing. "NW" could be "Nya's Walker" and 70610 or 70614 could be Jay's vehicle. I don't see a "C" in any set other than 70611 which is a 45 euro set, which in that case would make Cole's mech significantly smaller than Kai's from a piece count perspective. I guess that could be the case since it doesn't have legs and the wheel would save a large piece count vs. 2 legs. Surprised that if NW is Nya's vehicle, that it is that large! Figured it would also be a smaller set. -

For sure. There will be a large range of sets starting at $12.99USD like the other movie lines. Out of the sets that Bzpower saw at NYTF, I would guess that the 2 "non-vehicle playsets" are on the smaller side as this was specifically mentioned in their notes. In addition I think the Manta-Bomber, if sold in it's own set, would be a smaller set. I would also guess that the Ninja's vehicles/mechs would be split across various price points. I believe the Jay and Nya's vehicles might skew to a lower price point and Lloyd's and Zane's to a higher price point leaving the 2 mechs somewhere in the middle. Although I would imagine that with the mech's, one would be priced lower than the other. Probably Kai's mech since it looks like Cole's mech is larger in the movie and would require a higher piece count. When I saw Kai's mech in the trailer, my thought was that they could pull off that set with around 250-300 pieces which would make it around a $30USD set. But then again, Bzpower described the Kai Mech as "huge" so who knows? -

I only noted what BZP mentioned that they saw in their post. I didn't mention Cole's mech, because BZP's report did not mention that it was there. Where did you hear that Cole's mech could transform? To me, it doesn't look like it can and the "wheels" on the arms look more like small shields or forearm guards/weapons. Sorry. I should have been clearer. In my post I mentioned that 8 sets were shown according to BZP's notes. That being 8 out of the 11 sets that showed up on the Zusammengebaut list. It has been speculated that on top of those 11 sets, there will be retailer exclusives (1-3 I believe) based on the fact the TLBM had 3 of them and that there are some missing set numbers in the sequence on the list. So, a potential of 14 sets in total. 3 retailer exclusives and 11 regular sets - 8 of which were seen by BZP at NYTF. I do hope that we get some information soon. I'm still shocked that Lego didn't use NYTF as an opportunity to reveal at least 1-2 sets as the timeline would have been roughly in line with when the first TLBM sets were shown (relative to the sets retail release and the movie release date). Not sure, but if BZP was able to describe the sets that they saw and got no trouble from Lego, then would it not be okay for other people who have seen the sets or have info on them to "flesh out" those descriptions that BZP has already posted? If BZP were allowed to post those descriptions (if they weren't, then Lego would have had them take them down by now), then surely no harm could come from some additional elaboration? And since the BZP descriptions were allowed to be posted here and discussed, then would Eurobricks mind if those in the know provided some additional details? Would a mod be able to comment on this? If they gave the green light, then perhaps we could get some more details on the sets that we know about. I understand that those who have the info would probably not want to reveal things like names, prices, etc. at this point as that could get them into trouble, but perhaps something like "The DB model is huge - about 18 inches long with a detachable landing ship. It comes with one of the Manta flyers" - Note - that's just an example and not an actual description!! Just a thought to see if we can further the set discussion without causing problems for anyone. -

The lack of news out of NYTF was frustrating. From the one picture that is circulating, it appears that the set boxes were blocked by grey metal panels so that only the edges were visible. The sets did not look to be displayed in front of the boxes or we would have seen them in photo. If someone snapped an illicit pic or 2 they have yet to surface which means that Lego's security people did their job. So, doubtful that anything will surface via the usual channels. As for when we will see anything, I imagine we will definitely see some stuff at SDCC as it is around 2 months before the movie release date, but only a week before the set release date of August 1st. So, we will definitely get info before then. I haven't looked but I imagine that set reveals will follow the same or similar timeline as TLM and TLBM. So, however many months before the release date the first set images surfaced for those movies should be roughly the same timeline for TLNM. If we got the first set images 5 months prior to release for the other movie lines, then we could see something next month. We should also see set lists from retailers sometime soon as they usually show up around 4 months prior to release. As for what was shown, I went back to BZpower's descriptions as that will give us a good idea as to what sets we now know about. This is a summary of what they saw: 1. Manta Ship 2. Lloyd's Dragon. 3. Kai's Mech. 4. Nya's Mech (4 legged walker). 5. Jay's Flyer. 6. Destiny's Bounty. 7. 2 Small "Non Vehicle Playsets". So, based on this they showed 8 of the 11 sets on the initial list at NYTF. Plus another 1-3 retailer exclusives which I guess are speculated at this point? -

"Blue Ship" would be Jay's vehicle for sure. Kai's mech remarks are confusing as we have one account that said it was downsized and this one that said it was huge.... BZ Power has been answering all kinds of questions on their Twitter account. They mentioned that Lloyd's dragon, size wise, looked to have been around a $60-$70 set. -

LOL! Sometimes, all you can do is laugh...Of all the possible outcomes of what could have happened with the movie sets, I never imagined that Lego would show them to attendees....but forbid photos!! I don't recall this ever happening at NYTF...ever....but leave it to TLG to blaze new trails on secrecy. I guess they are super concerned (and I suppose rightfully so) about Lepin having copycat movie sets out to market in Asia a month after NYTF and 6 months before the movie is released. So, in a way, I understand why they would do that. There are several websites, bloggers, etc. at NYTF today plus other attendees over the course of the show. I'm guessing that we will probably get set descriptions and maybe even a list/price list from someone. I'm sure people have reached out to Brick Show, etc. on social media and asked them about the movie sets. Also, unless Lego has those sets in some kind of enclosed room with "spotters" looking for cameras/cellphones, chances are someone will get a grainy pic or 2. This show is simply too big and too many people are there to control a "no photography" policy in an open trade show display area. We are pretty much in wait and see mode. -

On Brickset, there is a press release from Lego for NYTF. It breaks down the sets that they are releasing for each theme. I.E. Nexo Knights gets 19 sets, etc. For Ninjago, they mention that there will be 7 sets based on the TV series. But when it comes to the Ninjago movie, this is all they had to say in the release: Premiering in September 2017, The LEGO® NINJAGO Movie will bring the beloved ninja to the silver screen – and starting in August–new building sets based on scenes from the movie will be available. Notice the lack of the number of sets. Also, many themes get price ranges for their sets. TLBM did. It's strange that Lego went into specifics with all the other themes except the Ninjago movie. I hate to say this, but I think that they might not show any movie sets at Toy Fair, which would be such a weird move on TLG's part and a bummer for those of us who were hoping to see the sets. I sure hope I'm wrong. -

From the pic of all the vehicles Lloyd and Cole's vehicles look to be larger than Kai, Nya and Jay's, but they are all somewhat similar in size. I would imagine that Lego will have to balance the Ninja vehicles in set form from a pricing standpoint. Kids tend to want to purchase hero sets over villain sets and same for parents who are purchasing for kids. If the cheapest Ninja vehicle is $50/$60 and all the small sets are villain vehicles, that might cause a sales problem for Lego. Honestly, I could see them "sizing down" any of the Ninja's vehicles and still having it look like a decent representation of the vehicle as it appears in the movie. For example, if they use the rear wheel of the Ultra Sonic 2.0 for Cole's mech, that would not make it that big a set as the wheel is proportionately quite large to the mech's body. I do believe that one vehicle will be at a lower price point either the $20 or $30USD size/piece count. One will probably be around the $100 size/piece count and the other 3 in the $50 - $75 range. I've lost track of how many sets we are getting (11? 14?) but if 5 sets are allotted to these vehicles (and who knows, the Ninja may have other smaller vehicles that we haven't seen that could make it into set form) and say 2-3 are "buildings" 1 set is Garmadon's shark-mech that leaves 2-3 villain vehicles to round out this wave. -

That's certainly possible. Especially with San Diego Comic Con in July around 2 months before the movie comes out. But I think that it's more likely that we see the entire line at NYTF with the exception of retail exclusives. Reasons being: 1. TLM & TLBM had February release dates around the same time as NYTF. Therefore, there was no main showcase opportunity to display the line for retailers (Comic Cons are not used by retailers as showcase opportunities for retailers). To display the sets at the prior year's NYTF would have been way too early. TLNM's September release date makes NYTF the perfect time to display the line for retail buyers and showcase them to the public in a venue where Lego controls the release (as opposed to online leaks, etc.). 2. As mentioned above, NYTF is the largest and most important Toy Fair where all major retail purchasers go to see toy manufacturer's lines for that year. TLG will not have another opportunity like this between now and the movie's release date. The timing is perfect for them to show the sets in an environment where they will get maximum exposure. 3. Along with TLBM, TLNM's set line will be Lego's main release for 2017. And although they did go the gradual route with TLBM's sets, I can't see them doing the same thing with the Ninjago sets given the opportunity that Toy Fair presents. 4. With the speculated release date of August 1st being around 6 months out and the sets not being shown in the summer retailer catalog, it wouldn't really make sense to delay the reveal of the sets past NYTF. Again, the timing of NYTF is excellent for a full reveal of the line. I would say 70% we get to see all the sets (excluding retailer exclusives) and 30% we get 2-3 sets with more reveals at SDCC. Not long before we find out! -

I like your suggested set names and I think you might be on to something there! Official set release date will be either August 1st or September 1st latest. If previous movie set line releases are any indication, the sets will be released the 1st of the month preceding the release month of the movie. Example: Lego Movie released Mid-February 2014, sets released January 1st. Lego Batman Movie released February 10th, sets released January 1st. So....Lego Ninjago Movie release date September 22nd, sets released August 1st. In an unrelated matter, the set numbers/probable names appear to be out of sequence if you look at the traditional method of larger sets having higher numbers. The set that we think is Lloyd's Dragon would, by that method, be the smallest ninja vehicle and we believe based on its size in the trailer that unless they really shrink it down for the set that it will likely be the largest ninja vehicle by far. So, why does it have a set number that would make it smaller than say, Nya's walker or Jay's jet? It's huge in the trailer. If they make the dragon into a $20 set, I can see that there will be a lot of upset TFOLS/AFOLS! -

From the trailer, it doesn't look like the Ninja's vehicles can combine in any way. At least not in terms of them all combining together to form some sort of super-robot or gestalt. You might see something like Kai's mech riding on top of Zane's tank or Jay's vehicle becoming a jetpack for Cole's mech or something like that though. As for photo's based on previous year's toy fair's you will see them online on Saturday. There is a very slight chance that you might see them earlier either by way of an official press release from Lego or pics of their booth/display being set up that make it online. Either way, not long now! I'm very curious to see how much "downsizing" is involved in the actual sets vs. the movie. As I mentioned earlier, they will want to spread the Ninja's vehicles around different price points for the sets. Having looked at the photos again, I'm pretty certain that Nya, Jay and Kai will end up with smaller vehicles/sets and Cole, Zane and Lloyd will end up with larger vehicles/sets. -

I...get where you are coming from. But, I also understand that people like Sir Von Lego and Kevii23 also have to weigh sharing info and answering questions with potentially getting into trouble with mods or getting banned from the site or worse disciplined/fired from their work or getting other disciplined/fired over giving them info in the first place. Personally, I'm grateful for whatever info they are able to give us which, at this point, is that the sets look good, are quite detailed and will appeal to TFOL's and AFOL's. At least they didn't say the sets look awful and not to set our expectations too high! As I mentioned above Kevii23 thanks for sharing with us what you can and are able to. If you don't mind me asking, further to your comment about the sets looking more "display-oriented" can you speculate as to whether or not they have a lot of action features? For example, are stud shooters, missiles, stud-gatling guns, flip out weapons, etc. visible on the models? Understand that you can't provide details on specific models, but in general do they look like they can "do stuff" besides roll around or be posed? I think that mods are okay with "hints" at this point as long as no one is posting images or links to images. -

Wow! The trailer showed quite a few potential sets! Looking forward to seeing them at NYTF. There is absolutely no doubt that they will be shown there. This line is one of Lego's most important releases for 2017 and they will no doubt be putting pressure on their retail partners to place large orders of this line. Therefore, they will have to have the sets on display for retail buyers at NYTF. As for what we've seen in the trailer, the villains look to all be aquatic-themed - lobsters/shark/jellyfish men. As mentioned in previous posts the armada of "flyers" are manta-ray themed and the ships that carry Garmadon's Shark-Mech are jellyfish-themed. As for the Ninja vehicles, for me Kai's Mech, Cole's Mech and Lloyd's Dragon (Mech?) are the standouts. Kai's mech is totally a shout-out to Exo-Force. As for where they might slot into the set line-up: Kai's Mech: think that despite it's size in the movie, this will be a smaller model and sold either on its own in a $30 (ish) set or perhaps be included as part of a larger set. I'm hoping for the former. Despite the fact that Kai and Cole's Mech's are similar size in the movie I don't see them releasing 2 mechs in identical or nearly identical price ranges. They should be able to recreate Kai's mech in model form without using that many pieces as it looks to be exterior-panel-heavy. Cole's Mech: You can tell that this mech will have significantly more pieces than Kai's. I see this mech being a medium-large set on it's own ($40-$60). The mech will definitely have "standing issues" but I'm sure Lego will either employ some kind of a "kickstand" or perhaps a docking station. Nya's Walker: I see this being one of the smaller sets ($20-$25) or part of a larger villain set. It looks to have a more simplified build and appears to be smaller than the other vehicles. Zane's Tank: Looks pretty big - might be the 2nd largest of the ninja vehicles. Jay's Flyer: It appears to also be a smaller model when compared to the other vehicles. Could see this as a $20-$25 set like Nya's vehicle or part of a larger set. "L-Loyd's" () Dragon (Mech?): I assume this is a mech. And it's definitely the largest of the ninja vehicles. Will likely be the most or 2nd most expensive set. Manta Flyer: Probably a small set ($15-ish) Garmadon Shark Mech: Probably the other flagship set along with Lloyd's dragon. Will likely come with 1-4 of the jellyfish flyers to re-create the scene from the movie. So....if there are 11 sets, maybe the lineup looks something like this. Manta-Flyer - $15 Nya's Walker - $20 Jay's Flyer - $25 Kai's Mech - $30 Zane's Tank - $40 Cole's Mech - $60 Lloyds Dragon - $90 Garmadon Shark - $100 WIth the other 3 sets perhaps being another impulse set at $15, another $20 set (villain vehicle) and a base/building set at the upper end of the line. That would give this line a somewhat similar lineup to the other Lego movies and there will probably be 1-2 retail exclusives thrown in as well I imagine! -

The teaser trailer posted on Facebook earlier today actually gave us a look (I'm assuming) at one of the upcoming sets. That being the small villain flyers. They look like they are different from the ones that were shown in the Lord Garmadon still shot a few days ago. The ship design itself is an interesting mix of styles with both modern and vintage elements. They look on the smallish-side though, so either they would be sold on their own as a small set or packaged into a larger one. Looking forward to the full trailer tomorrow and seeing some more potential sets. -

Well, that was underwhelming...unless we get more photos later it looks like that's it until NYTF. It looks like the movie sets are in the display case behind the 2 large figures, but I guess they didn't get pictures of them. I hope we get some more pics later, but either they didn't show the sets (and those aren't them in the display), or photos weren't allowed. -

No photography allowed at London TF. However, "note-taking" is allowed and Brickset does this every year along with 1-2 other UK sites that Lego invites to the fair as their guests. I'm not sure what "fiasco" you are referring to legozebra - did Brickset not provide descriptions of the Nexo Knight sets last year? I can't recall myself. Huw has made a point of telling people that he devotes most of the (limited) time that he gets to themes that are of significant interest to him and basically doesn't spend much time on themes that he doesn't personally care for. However, I think now he takes at least 1 and maybe 2 other people with him (that work for the site) so that they can cover off descriptions for as many themes as possible. If Nexo Knights got missed last year (I think Ninjago did as well....) and if you want to get descriptions this year, I suggest you contact Huw through Brickset. He is very good at responding to inquiries and tries his best to resolve them. I've contacted him myself on a couple of occasions and always received a prompt, useful response. If enough people ask him to provide details of the Nexo sets (or any other sets that they want details on), I'm sure he will or at least get someone else from the site to write about them. And yeah, even if Brickset doesn't come through, we will get photos for sure basically a week later!
