U guys need to quit making posts I have to hide from my four yr old Nice looking Mountain there, nice clean lines.

My HE seems to haul butt just fine with 1 PF motor and triple A battery box. I know the boy has made it derail a few times. Like others mentioned, I debated swapping in conventional wheel sets, but after carefully setting up the technic trucks it seemed to be much improved over what we started with. I still have another 2 HE's to build for myself, as well as another for him(came in the 40+ lb bulk lot(well, most of it)), so I will test it when I have a full(2 set) train as well. The HE is a very heavy, solid set, so I could see it straining the PF some.

Assuming you mean the 7938? It's a good set. The more I play with Power Function stuff, the more I like it.

As a long time UP fan and stock holder, I hate you Man that thing looks good. I can't wait until I have time to try working on some serious projects with the boy.

If you have not PF'ed this set yet, do so now!!!!! Just motorized it and put headlights in with the four yr old(after extracted the engine from his backpack for show and tell at school, dad was a little po'ed, but it is all there) So not only do we now have a fully motorized TGV, we also have functional headlights that we can even adjust the brightness of. Never occurred to me that with PF the headlights would have their own controls, so it was a nice surprise. I am sure it will cost me a fortune later when I'm going "What else can we make work with this?!?!?!?" (already thinking everything needs lights now lol) Oh well, just was a nice surprise and I guess an amazing one from a four year old's perspective. It was fun to build, looks good to boot and now has bells and whistles.

Spent the morning and evening sorting Lego with the 4 yr old, at parents for Easter in between. More Horizon Express pieces, that is good. Only 2 complete wheel sets, 4 are missing the axle/wheels............................kinda bummed. No more track found and so far no more Emerald night pieces. Still have some hope, I've only gotten about a 1/3 of the way thru the massive bag of Lego.

7 wide LEGO trains Vs O gauge size comparison

Color me impressed. Some good looking engines there. -
Recently won a 40+ pound lot on ebay. Was kind of a gut feel/what the heck moment since the auction ended midday. Surprises found so far: Very little non Lego pieces Multiple track pieces (plastic pf style) 2 long train plates(orange) and pieces(good amount so far) from the TGV creator set Super Duper Find: Doors(from pass car w/ stickers) and bricks in the colors of the Emerald Night(I'm praying, my little guy would flip if its all or mostly there) This is only from sorting thru the easy stuff at the top of the bag. Ton of Star Wars stuff, some Bionicle, lots of the weird late 90's early 00's space stuff too. I will update more tomorrow as everyone else is asleep and its difficult going through a glorified garbage bag with 40+ pounds of Lego in it. I will be sorting them out and running them thru the bath with the 4 yr old. Itching to see what else might be here, especially train wise with what I have found so far From looks and dust patterns, someone assembled them and kept them that way, at least the larger sets.

I think it would be cheaper to go to a hobby shop and go thru some catalogs. Tons of decals available for everything on both sides of the pond. Rather large model railroader base here and in England. Would be cheaper than cutting them out from vinyl.

Couple webstore questions for fellow train folks?
v6TransAM replied to v6TransAM's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Hmmmm great info for a ebay supporter. I found them at the bottom of ebay pages lol We shall see -
Threads like this are the reason I only show this forum to my son sparingly. He would want to build it worse than I do(I'm a UP fan myself). Sure looks good and I am liking the modded battery box

I am always trying to find good deals, since my son and I have a budget to stick to. (Which I have pretty much wrecked but only pulling the trigger when they do seem to be real deals). I am looking for some feedback from more experienced folks as to whether I have come in on a good deal, going rate or the I got hosed category lol http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=351025830237 http://www.ebay.com/itm/251453666348?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I recently purchased B and C(A and D for example, but very similar) of these lots making an offer on them and a little haggling. I am looking for guesstimates as to value and will share the actual purchase total with shipping. I am trying to find out what the deals are and going rates, but when it comes to bulk or large lot with train stuff it gets hazy really fast and I'm about into this maybe three months worth. Ebay has prices from stupid to good, same as I have found on bricklink, but large lots are kind of a no man's land when trying to compare. This is the only sight I know of period that has folks or the knowledge to give me a yay or nay. Maybe this can become a kind of newbe crash course in parts prices and hunting. Quickie part summary of both lots: drop deck plates(container car style) 4 grey 2 black 1yellow 1 white flat deck plates: 10 black * 24 2 red * 24 2 red *28 1 yellow*28 1 black*28 underframe: 2 steam switcher type red bogie plates(pinned for truck assembly): 12 black 36 couplers wheels: 38 black wheelsets 5 grey wheelsets 4 12v style wheelsets black 1*4 thin wheelsets 4 black 2*4 thin wheelsets 3 1*4 wheelsets 6 grey 1*4 wheelsets 2 red buffer: 10 (1*2 thin style) roof pieces: 6*6 (2 wide in the middle) 5 lite grey 2 blk 4 drk grey 6*4 (4 wide in middle) 17 grey 16 white 58 black doors: cargo style: 4 red 4 yellow 2 white 2 dark grey mail car style?: 4 lite grey(possibly from an older set i'm not familiar with, different style than the norm) 6 red girder beams 2 grey girder beams signals: 2 4.5v signal/stop pieces 2 crossing gate arms(round style) 2 complete 9v controllers w/ transformer and track connectors(will test with fluke) If interested pm me I'm running PF Misc: 8 roof end piece type from old express set? 2 frt sections from express set? Odds and end wheels, guessing narrow mine track? various control panel pieces various slopes and slants Other stuff I am forgetting, had to do it quietly while catching up on Walking Dead lol Thanks

Very, very good looking steam roller there. Reminds me of the Labor Day show at Hesston Steam Museum. Always fun seeing steam tractors and steam rollers.

I voted R72 in plastic. I read this post about 5-6 times now and asked questions prior. It is a good split between the home/general user and club/large layout. Most of us are limited to 4ft-5ft in width and figure 8ft lengths(you should see the looks I'm getting from the other half the way my boy's floor looks like right now lol) If this is to be a success, someone has to make money or at a bare minimum cover costs, this comes back to the middle ground for everyone vs either extreme. Whatever happens, I will pick some up regardless if my son and I are building layouts on the floor currently.

Couple webstore questions for fellow train folks?
v6TransAM replied to v6TransAM's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Interesting, new scam of the day. Haven't heard that angle of one yet and I'm pretty versed. When in doubt I never ever use credit cards. Well, since I used paypal, now I guess we see what happens............... Since this one is up in the air for the moment....... Anyone chime in anything about A2Ztoystore? I will be suffering from egg on the face if I am 0-2 here. -
Couple webstore questions for fellow train folks?
v6TransAM replied to v6TransAM's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I used Bill me Later aka paypal, figured it was worth a shot at the vtn store. A2Ztoystore I have no info other than what I posed thus far, was hoping someone else had used them as well. -
Is this too good to be true? I just bit and ordered 2 Horizon Express from them : http://shop.vitanes....argo-train.html Prices seem too good to be true, as in why buy Lego from anywhere else? Question is, has anyone else used them? Started showing up adds for them under ebay searches and listings, so I check it out. Also placed a KO track order from A2Ztoystore and becoming a little worried about it just because communication is so slow and painful with them. I can't tell my son anything because I don't want him to be heartbroken if something doesn't come thru. My order was confirmed and then a week or so later was being prepared to ship and now the trail has gone cold.(Yes I keep trying to contact and will update as it changes) Thanks in advance

I have seen mentioned several times about folks saying the Lone Ranger train can be used as a great base for building the Emerald Night as there are a fair amount of common parts. My question is this: Has this been broken down and instructions posted somewhere already?(I may have just missed it) I ended up getting two separate loco's as well as tenders to do it with. I don't like reinventing the wheel if it has already been done, just been working a hella amount of overtime, so when we get time to play together I make sure we get some Lego train fun in. He is dying for a steam engine with power as he says lol Any help appreciated or a point in the right direction if its out there and I missed it.

Can we get some comparison pics of the radii along with pics compared to Lego track? I would be interested in some in any size but would like a little comparison/photo/measurements before voting on a specific size. Thanks
-
Have a TRU link that works? I can't find them? Thanks

From one nerd to another, nice layout I see the RID Fort Max, I'm a G1 guy myself. Your "office" looks like an entire floor of the house, consider me jealous. Edit: Now I see the Fort Max, Gen. Metroplex and some more, you on TFW as well?

Welcome aboard, get ready to make your wallet bleed while having fun in the process I can at least blame all of mine on my soon to be 4 yr old
-
All those pieces are in the red cargo train, red pass train and yellow cargo train, so price wise it should be no different. I could live without giant solid pieces if it made things cheaper for us.
-
Google Ausini and you will get links and pics. Some of them look pretty decent, although buying 60 at a tine seems prohibitive lol I want that AK, I so miss the days of buying toy guns that looked like guns

Can we get pics of the passenger train where the front end is assembled correctly? Or are they setting us up for a horrible fitting piece since neither end of the train is actually pushed down together? Little disappointed with price increases since it appears we are actually getting a little less with each set. Also I have to say, Lego are bricks, why do they keep forcing massive pieces like the front of the pass train on us? I have never wrapped my mind around that and it always sticks out like a sore thumb to me.
