Ooops, overlooked that one :p

You forgot LEGOWorld Zwolle each year in autumn: October, 19 - 28, 2010
-
About that part: it is unofficial: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=32123 But you can download it and put it in your parts directory. You may not be too concerned about missing files but apparently the software NEEDS it for some reason. I'm a software engineer and although it might be not very neat, now and then some references are included for certain reasons and might just be needed for some purposes. So my advise is fix those errors first and then let's see what the next challenge will be. B.t.w. topic should be placed here I guess: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showforum=128

[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
JopieK replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I wish they would let one have influence on the instructions e.g. use the grouped pieces or templates that one uses for submodels in the instructions. For larger buildings the instructions are totally crap is my experience. -
Mindstorms NXT IR Sensor
JopieK replied to Kalapixie's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The RCX has a very annoying protocol, I have played with it a bit, but anyway. http://www.mindsensors.com/ has one: http://www.mindsensors.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=59 -
Well let's see: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=516.178 These are utterly horrible I think: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=42604pb02, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=42604px2, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=42602px02, http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=42602pb05 I think that set is the most horrible set that came ever out, Jack Stone being the most horrible line that ever came out.

LDD Train Signal Post
JopieK replied to JopieK's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
In effect it is quite simple to make them. I just used the gradient fill tool, tweak it a bit. The 'trees' are soft brush strokes and thats it. LDD luckily exports it to a transparent png so it is easy then to add the colors as a background. -
I like it a lot especially since we have a Winter town, although at LEGOWorld 2009 our skating ring was a bit larger ;)

Voting topic - LDD Only Class
JopieK replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I like a lot of those (like the circus and the shunter!), but I think Saracen is very good so 1pt, Carbohydrates also 1pt and last but not least SalvoBrick 1pt. -
Voting topic - LDD + Real Bricks class
JopieK replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well I think Igorlando deserves 2pts (very difficult to make that in LDD) private_lego has a very nice MOC so 1pt -

Good old photoshop comes in handy now and then :) In the final model I will add the electronics and stickers (of course). -
Crappy Instructions
JopieK replied to JopieK's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, I have a Mac so pdf writing is native to the OS. But that is not the problem. The problem is the order of the building instructions. Is it know how the software works to generate the instructions so we can help it creating good submodels etc.?! In LDraw (Bricksmith in my case) it is a lot of work, but it works well since the user decides the order. -
Too late for the competition but that is no problem. This signal house was designed in preparation of LEGOWorld 2010 (Zwolle) and the main purpose is having a nice building for doing further tests with arm signals using PF amongst others. I also recreated the good old 7821 set in LDD. Some pictures use non-buyable bricks but both sets are in essence buyable for about 200€ + 35€. Bricks in the Signal Post: approximately 1330. You can see different aspects of the building. The back has two removable panes for access inside the signal house. I didn't put in too many details there since at an exposition they are hard too see for the visitors from behind the fence. The house was inspired by different existing signal posts from the old days. The base is at least 8 by 5 studs since that is the footprint of my circuitboard. The signal post has a lot of details. The red cupboard contains so called "rail detonators" (or in AE torpedos) for warning trains in misty circumstances. There is a small handtruck for the signal post crew with several tools available. In those days wired telephones were state of the art so that is why some poles were included, but maybe they used it for the more old fashioned but still widespread telegraph. The armsignals are simple but effective. I have successfully tested those using memory wire. They are quite breakable, that is their main problem and they need adjustment now and then, but that was no different in those old day I guess :) That is why the signal repair car came in handy! The car is based in the 7821 design from about 30 years ago. I have had that one since I was a child back then. 7821 look alike signal post It was fun designing it, hope you enjoy it. My girlfriends wants me to buy it from her, so maybe :) otherwise I will use the LEGO from stock of course and some bricklink.

Crappy Instructions
JopieK replied to JopieK's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That makes sense Superkalle ;) I'm a software engineer (well, I used to be, not developing but just teaching it nowadays), so finding bugs comes in naturally I guess ;) I'lltry to post pictures of my creations ASAP. But anyway, is there also a way of generating better instructions? The instructions for larger projects are totally unusable I think. -
I don't know where the part is, but have a remark about it: the strangest thing is that LEGO uses the projectile for this cannon as an icon and the parts themselves are nowhere to be found...
-
I made a nice Signal Post, too late for the competion, but I never win so that doesn't matter ;) anyway. It consists of 1300+ bricks. Generating the instructions is not working very well. I therefor tried to use grouping, but to no avail. Does anyone know tricks to optimize the instructions and let the tool create submodels? I tried to export it to LDraw but too many parts don't show-up (although I installed all new part packs including unofficial ones). b.t.w. I also notice that putting a 2x2 jumper plate (the new ones) in with a cone and a stick on top (to make a sign), gives troubles: when opening the file it removes either the 2x2 jumper tile or the cone.

Well, you better check http://www.ldraw.org/ What kind of version do you use, do you use Windows 7 in 32 bits or 64? Otherwise you will need to recompile it for 64-bit I guess.

And the remote toy flow chart is a little peculiar, at least it is strange that one can patent such a generic procedure. Of course this is (except the OK and Error sound) the best way to receive and execute commands (although I don't understand "save program step", that might be a good way to do almost the same and avoid this patent ;)).

In which set was this brick released?
JopieK replied to Superkalle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Since it isn't in the bricklink list I guess not. There is only one guy on bricklink that has a whole lot of them, maybe you could ask him (although he got it probably directly from a factory or so). -
Nice boat! Although the jib does seem to be quite large (like a genua jib almost ;)) I like the details. The boat is sailing with the wind in the back so a large jib could be used on this course.

The Prince from Prince of Persia

It is indeed a very difficult game to play... -
Maybe using this? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=48723

Nice one Mr. Palmtree!!! I have played that classic game too and it is very obvious to see the comparison with the game and your set!
