Hello Eurobricks Castle and Historical Themes Fans,
I actually posted this over at Classic-Castle a few weeks ago, but I thought I'd give it a run here in case anyone we interested.
I've always been partial to ships from medieval times so I decided to put together a cog. I don't claim it's historically accurate, but it has the stumpy look most cogs seem to have possessed. I imagine this vessel would sit rather low in the water. I decided not to put crenellations on the fore and aft castles because I thought the smooth railings looked better. The Viking shields are not the best, I know, but I like them regardless. :-) Anyway, here are some highlights:
Here's a view the ship from the front. I'm not entirely sold on the brick-built sail, but I think it works for now.
This is a closer view of the ship from the side.
Here's a better view of the triangular front. The angled flat pieces that compose the floor do lie flat on the surface timber wall pieces, but I used a lego hood and some clever engineering (not shown) to keep it anchored securely.
The captain of this ship has a very advanced and possibly anachronistic instrument.
Finally, here's a comparison shot of the cog with Lego's classic BSB.
Here's the Brickshelf folder.
And here's the Flickr page for those who prefer that service.
Let me know what you think of my MOC. I would appreciate any recommendations you have for its improvement.
