Back in the day, I bought a Legends version of the Black Seas Barracuda even though Pirates really wasn't my "thing." I bought it because I considered that set to be a classic. The beauty of that set really inspired to open myself up to another theme. I recommend buying the IFS if only because it's a set I predict will be a classic, just like the BSB. Who knows? Maybe it will broaden your building horizons too.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Tycho McKorley replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think the deeper question here is whether or not we should take to posting about PotC Lego in this forum or if we should move to the "Lego Licensed Themes" forum. I say that only in a slightly tongue-in-cheek manner. :-) -
Excellent creation. I think the piles of red flowers you've put into this really add to the overall effect. The gazebo is well-done too.

Considering you were working with a limited supply of blocks I think it looks very nice. However, the captured redcoat seems to enjoy his handcuffs just a wee bit too much.

This is a very clever way to convey a changing battle scene. Nice work.

MOC: Collectible minifig modular display shelf
Tycho McKorley replied to Cecilie's topic in LEGO Town
This is a really fun MOC you've put together here. I really think making a modular set of vignettes is one of the more creative things I've seen in a while. Nice work. -
Minifg collectors series 2 pics and barcodes
Tycho McKorley replied to Superkalle's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the Spartan and the Pharaoh look really cool. I might just have to pick up the Baywatch girl to tease my wife. -
It looks like something TLC might just produce someday. Nice little MOC. I also like the computer in the background. ;-)

Nice little MOC. It looks like you've packed in quite a bit of detail for a small structure. I like the crates with carrots in the background.

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Tycho McKorley replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think I'll have to say that I'm a little bit skeptical of this. PotC finished its trilogy years ago and I'd think that Lego would want to have sets out when the movie could boost sales. Right now that just wouldn't be the case. That's a cool Jack Sparrow minifig though to be sure. -
I like the changes you made the to the windows. I think it looks much more realistic now and much less "futuristic."

Are those tires used for the neck of the beast? If so, that's very, very clever. I like the micro scale city at the top to indicate that the explorers are at the center of the earth but I'm not too bid on the peach faces. In all, however, this is very nice work.

The Battle of Grunwald Painting in lego
Tycho McKorley replied to Sire Pirol's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It rivals the original masterpiece in its size and grandeur. Amazing. -
10210 Imperial Flagship Future Availability
Tycho McKorley replied to Mos_Eisley's topic in LEGO Pirates
LOL! Actually, when I got married last year, I made sure that my wife-to-be understood exactly what she was getting herself into. While she did significantly reign in my Lego spending, at least I can still pursue my hobby. -
I like the ship a lot although I agree that the front of the ship looks stubby. Otherwise it captures the look of the movie ship quite well. I can't say I like the peach faces (I hated it when TLC made the change) but I do like the minifigures you've put together overall. Nice work.

This truck has a lot of detail especially considering that it's only six studs wide. Nice work.

Is the 6054 Forestmen's Hideout overlooked?
Tycho McKorley replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think that this set might be a little overlooked because it's smaller and only has two minifigs. I remember playing with it at my older cousin's house when I was a kid. It's great despite its smaller size. -
Your MOC is nice, but I really like those gears. Admittedly the blue color scheme may not be the best for castle, but the fact that those pieces are so OLD really hammers home the longevity of Lego blocks. Thanks for sharing this with us.

It looks like you have a good start, but I think maybe I'll be better able to pass judgment when you have more completed. I can't donate at this time though, but I'm certainly willing to accept donations from others. :-)

Well, this MOC looks nice, but I think the transparent bricks in the back look awkward. I assume you were trying to go for windows back there, but having them all together without some sort of "frame" makes it look too futuristic and fragile. In all, however, it's a great MOC. I really like the base you built for the cannon at the front too. It looks realistic IMHO.
-
This is certainly a good start although I think that it could use some improvement to make it a truly *great* MOC. Maybe you could start by finding some way to expand the center so that it doesn't look so "stubby."
-
This is some stellar work. I think the columns on the facade of the building are exceptionally well done and, as such, I might just have to steal you idea in the future.
-
It looks like the sort of place I might like to hang out in if I were a minifig. :-) Anyway, it's very nice. The tiling gives it a smooth polished feel and the minifigs are well placed. The highlight, however, is the light up fire place. Did you use official Lego lights for it or did you use a third party solution?

I enjoyed the way you did flaming arrows a lot. I'm not sure how well that method would work for me if I saw it in person but in photograph it's awesome.

MOC Collectible minifig Series 1.5 "Scout"
Tycho McKorley replied to greg3's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
*Gasp* Wouldn't it be amazing if Lego actually made some raccoon skin caps? We can only dream. Excellent fig by the way.
