  3. Saturn moons have dead dinosaurs......
  4. What about the inside...? Also, are you just building the flat surface, you would need to add mountains and such like..... Don't forget the Fjords.....[/slartibartfast]
  5. Probably my best bargin was back in July 2008 when TLG first posted the 10188 Death Star - for an extremely brief period they listed it @ 199.99 GBP (pre-order), which I dropped into my basket before receiving an email informing me that the price listed was incorrect and should have been the more familiar 274.99 GBP. However, in the same email, they let me have it for the lower price...
  6. Here's another rare torso, the astronaut with NASA logo (only 3 available on BL - as a torso) Torso Space Discovery, NASA Logo Pattern It was the only torso included with the Discovery sets and features in Lunar Lander 10029.
  7. Thanks for the words AmperZand, Legogal and soccerkid6 - much appreciated. A quick word about the plate: - the building is a snapshot of the LDD model, which had all the bricks coloured trans-clear (now that would be a great building ) and three of its sides removed (as the internal structure and other walls were showing through being totally transparent ), all to get a better blueprint feel to the display.
  8. Funny enough yes Technic & trains seem to be a particular favourite of his - so the 4x4 Crawler is now in his posession...
  9. As part of my fathers 70th birthday, I thought a nice centre piece would be this recreation of Kent House in London, as he worked there for many years. Kent House is also known as the LWT (London Weekend Television) building or the London Television Studios. It was built in the late sixties/early seventies and was quite an iconic building for its time. With it being situated on the south of the Thames, it afforded some stunning views of Parliament, The City and St Pauls - you can get these views and more from the London Eye these days. I have only built the tower rather than the lower studio area, as my father only worked in the building on the 19th/20th floor. However, the completist in me might make me finish the job. The finished model is a little taller than the R2 model, but has a small footprint of 16 x 16. There are approx 2500 pieces in the finished design, as the centre core is not hollow. My original plan was fairly straight forward in LDD, but I soon realised it would be highly unstable without proper strengthening and support - so every few floors or so they are fixed to the core. To finish up, I printed a custom sticker for the display stand, to give it that UCS look. I look forward to your comments... 16. With the Olympics in full swing and so many events taking place, here are a few ceremonies you may have missed...... Trevor "The Fish" Sharkey was upset to only finish second...... Wild Bill may have only finished in silver now, but vowed to shoot back to the top later.... Bruce saw the "red mist" after being runner-up....... 17. I remember in the mist of time, when I used to have a Hornby OO layout, which I would painstakingly set out on the lounge floor. Then, without fail, Fluffy (a ginger female) would set itself in front of the fire and casually lay her tail over a good portion of the back straight. Driving the train upto but not touching didn't help, she would just turn look at it with disdain in her eyes then continue staring at the gas fire. Now Hotwheels was a different story - I would have a large loop-d-loop set up and she would stare at the top of the ramp, chasing the cars as they swooped downwards. I guess she didn't like trains.....
  18. so that would expain why my test platform (a double bogie each end with turntable attached to a small plate....) kept falling off the track....
  19. I fear that it's already too late......
  20. Nice I hadn't come across yours before, the eBay link I found was this. I looked at bases but decided to attach the bogie directly to the underside of the green containers, as the pins make it quite solid on its own. I do like the colours though, I guess that's why TLG used them in their truck...
  21. After building the containers, I thought I'd look at some other rolling stock. I came across a custom item on eBay and thought that's a good idea , so here's my take on the Octan tankers. The one I saw was based on three parts, which is the same length as the truck version 3180, and had lots of other nice detailing. I felt that this was a little long, so made a more basic version with only 2 sections. I was quite happy with the result and the basic nature keeps the cost down to make multiple versions, as you can see from the pic below. I built a total of 5, although eagle-eyed readers may only spot 4 in the photo - the train was too long to fit in my tent... I also wanted to build the truck with just two bogies and initally tried a design with a small turntable mounted between the bogie and base. However, when I ran it along the track they twisted and derailed the wagon, so I reverted to fixed bogies and Robert is your father's brother... Is this a trait of single bogie design, as I notice that the bigger trains/wagons have a double bogie arrangement, or is it to do with the overall length of the item...?
  22. Now that's a quality burger...
  23. Its a nice idea, but it would get rejected...I can't see more real world companies in lego sets, plus the price of the sets would finish the bid off. There are 136 x Blue Modified 1 x 2 logs (30136) which cost £29.92 + the Yellow Profile brick (2877) @ £14.62 and that's without the rest of the containers and then the two trailers...... Absolutely, the train looks better pulling more freight... I know what I did here. I designed the containers & cars in LDD and for whatever reason, the bogies aren't in it, so I just used the 10219 manual for the part no's. However, I picked out the engine ones, instead of the flat-beds.... I will BL them immediately... Thanks for the keen eye... You just wouldn't think that the 6 x 16 plate would be that rare... So you better get in before I corner the Worlds supply....
  24. Thanks for the great comments, much appreciated...
  25. Hi Guys, This is my first post in this part of EB and I'd like to share a couple of custom containers I built as a gift for my dad, who has also come out of the Lego-less void Using the Maersk container wagon as a base, I made two in grey shades to distinguish them from the others and also I felt that they needed to be plain and boring... Again, using the same size/scale of the Maersk containers, I built 2 of each of a blue P&O and yellow Ferrymasters ones. Also, when I was sourcing the parts I found that one of the rarest bricks is the 6 x 16 Yellow plate, of which there are only 59 in Europe, after I bagged 5 of them... The P&O containers are a good fit for the Maersk train, as they bought P&O Nedlloyd a while ago, so it wouldn't be strange of the containers to be on the Maersk...
