Ah yes. That's the one. I only have one of these, but I have two of the lifting mechanisms (the other is from the yellow freight train), so I have made a truck with a trailer where both truck and trailer can pick up containers like the red garbage truck. Instead of two of the red, I have two of the yellow ones... and I have absolutely no idea why. I guess someone just gave me a second one 8-| Does anyone know all the garbage trucks in city-scale that LEGO has made? It would be funny to see the development like in the "your favorite police/fire station" threads.

I can see he has followed the instructions and built the Executor :-) - That is at least a 7 hours build (and there are some flaws in the current instructions that I have to fix), so you might find him in the review section of the original mocpage: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/1549 (At least one other person has built it and replied that way, so you might be lucky)

That was the very set that introduced me for alternative building techniques back in the day. :-$ If I remember correctly, many alternative models (especially Technic models) in those days were a little more daring, so to say, than the primary models, but I can't recall any good examples of SNOT-techniques right now.

What kind of "experts" have said that? The real experts that know about zoology and have experience from other parks say the exact opposite. I'm sorry my source is in Danish (DR), but the persons who were interviewed were people who actually work with polar bears. The only kind of people that I know about who want it killed are activists.

I prefer your artillery cannon to the Droid speeder. It looks very nice and I didn't expect the sets had the parts for making stuff like that. There is just something WWII over it. trooperdavinfelth said Flak 88. All I know is that it looks familiar. Here's a Flak 88mm: *y*

Model Team: Shell Road Tanker
Lasse D replied to Lasse D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A Technique figure doesn't fit inside and minifigs are about 33% too small, but I use them in some of the Model Team creations. I think the best fitting figures are the old maxifigs, but even they are too big and don't really fit in because of their strange construction. I will make more trucks in this scale in the future. I just need the time - The police station took two years from the first prototypes to the final model because I could only build when not studying :'-( I'm glad you like it. If you want to see it in person, you are welcome to come to the Danish version of Brickfest, Klodsfest, in April - I have been asked to bring it along. I'm sorry I can't go to the European event this year. -
He is not the only one. It is a very nice design and reminds me a lot about the new green Technic tractor that LEGO sells (which I also think is very nice). You have quite a talent for making use of all kind of techniques that make the small creations very detailed L2k. My only question is. Can you push it along with the way you have made the wheels connect? - I guess I will find out once you have made the instructions ;-)

And pretty exhaustive when it comes to genres as well. The only new idea to a version that hasn't already been showed is Technic - and that has been mentioned in this thread! I'm thinking about a version in Model Team, but I can't really see how to pull that one off. Those are some magnificent MOCs - we should have more of this kind in here. I'm all in for it. Any ideas?

Whoa! I just misread the title as $1000! It isn't unusual that you pay much for collector's items, but this is a bit over the top IMO.

It doesn't offer an alternative way of playing in the games I have tried, but it is possible to play them all while sitting, or so it says. I'm happy with my Wii. It has graphics comparable to my PS2, but the games for that machine are also using its full potential. The Wii is used mostly for old Nintendo games, while the PS2 takes over when I want to play more involved games like RPGs, horror or racing. I would like to have a PS3, but spend my money on LEGO instead :)

Favorite car from a movie? It just has to be Mr Bean's Mini:

That doesn't help :-P Hello everyone. My name is Lasse and I'm an addict. Today I will order some bricks over bricklink. I will have to see if I have made any progress since our last meeting.

Ordered the new Millennium falcon, and "Pick a brick" for a total of $848 a few days ago - it's fine. No PS3 for me this year! :-) Then I bought a 4939 yesterday. It has a lot of good bricks, although I'm not trilled with the picture on the front that makes it look as if it can steer. I also bought a 8828 crawler crane. It is a great set with top notch functionality and a lot of bricks But... I already had one! I bought a $45 ($80 actually, because I live in Denmark) set just because I thought it would be fun to have two and I needed some more of the long white bricks! :'-( I need rehab... seriously!

Model Team: Shell Road Tanker
Lasse D replied to Lasse D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks Asuka. It is quite strange that I have never seen this solution for the windows been done before. It surely is a distinct shape as you say, but it doesn't look equally well from all angles. It appears very industrial from the front while the off-angle shots make it flow more with the design of the front. I have taken some additional images. The engine isn't seen very well because of the way the hood opens up, so I took it off the hinges to get a better view. And this is what the logos looks like from the other side It is made up of many small parts (As always - click the images to see them in full size) -
It was more about making it look connected in the picture - if he moves it towards the wall, the lower stud of the leaf will go through the wall, so the ideal thing to do is to bend the leaf slightly like you do in the real model, but from my experience that's not an easy thing to do in MLCad! Who would have thought this would be a community project? *sweet*

Right now the green brick on the side is floating, but by making a minor change, it should be buildable. I have two suggestions for solutions: 1) Add a couple of 1x1 bricks between the bricks in the wall and the green brick in order to connect them. 2) Replace the "holding brick" on the back side with a normal 1x1 brick. Turn the other brick on its "back" and place a 1x1 plates on top of it - the green brick can now be connected with minimal distance to the wall, but is only supported using 1 stud. I prefer the second suggestion since it allows for some tilting of the green brick as well ;)

It's funny that you have chosen to disassemble the minifig on the operation table. I had the exact same idea when I posted my lab about a month ago: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2271441 I guess it's the natural thing to do in LEGO labs :-D

It has been a very warm January this year. There was only a single day with snow in my area. I grabbed my camera and tossed the latest creation out in the snow. It is the Road Tanker that has received a major update since the 2005 version. There was a review with constructive criticism by Phillip Thorne, which has been taken into consideration when the new version was made. It is actually only the front, some few details and the overall shape that has stayed unchanged. I wanted a new way of making the window arrangement. This is the first time I have used three small windows. Combined with the shortened bonnet, this allows for a longer and wider cab with doors that open sideways instead of the usual upwards Delorean style. The frame of the last version provided little support. The use of sideways Technic beams has made the frame so rigid that it doesn't need additional support from the container like the old green one provided. The loading system is the same as the one for the mobile crane and Police HQ The additional room did wonders for the interior and the engine has been given a more neutral color scheme instead of the screaming yellow The old green tank was already "round", but I wanted to make it better by using half-stud steps or other techniques. I ended up with this design because of my limited supply of yellow tiles and I actually like it better than the optimal studless design. The big challenge was the 9 studs wide Shell logo which had to fit into the rounded shape. I have mostly used the 5:2 technique, but in order to make the 3 studs wide section in the middle, 1x2-1x4 brackets are added to the line in the middle. You can try to recreate the logo - I thought it was a fun challenge with the chaos on the backside that was needed to make everything stable The inspiration came from this little M

Model Team: Police HQ
Lasse D replied to Lasse D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You are absolutely right. If we take the normally accepted minifig scale of 1:40 to 1:45 and assume the normal with of real life trucks is 2.5m, then the ideal width for minifig scale trucks is 8 studs. With 12 studs, model team (the old style like 5580, 5591 and 5590 that I build in) is 50% too large. I only have two kinds of LEGO "people": minifigs and technic figures. One is too small and the other way too big. I think it's possible to make figures in the right scale that might work, but it's much more easy just to say that the trucks are meant for the American highways where "bigger is better". The current version of the mobile gas station even has an American flag (I think the flag was added in an earlier version around the time of 9/11). Model Team lets you put in a lot of details while holding some very firm limits on the size. But if you want to make models that resemble real trucks, I suggest a size larger like the 5571 Black Cat. I'm glad that there are so many who like Model Team and creations like this one. I will soon show a new Model Team truck (without minifigs) where the main focus isn't on functionality. -
This creation has been under its way for more than 2 years now. It replaces the old mobile police station, which had very little interior room. I wanted to make a new HQ which utilizes the container system as seen in the mobile crane. The first prototype had a unibody design with the station at ground level between the wheels. It solved a lot of the space issues, but I just didn't really like it. A lot of experimenting went on with a new front and I can now present the new police head quarters. The police station has been moved to the "container" There's a removable holding cell in the rear, the "container" can of course be taken off and replaced with any other such container from the other trucks, The engine is a basic V12, while the steering system uses the double steering rag for optimal turning diameter. The interior has details such as pedals at the floor (although it's pretty hard to see in this picture) and there are details like a tool box in the side of the truck. But let's get on to the real deal. The locks are opened and supports are pulled out. The two halves of the station follow and the middle roofs are tipped up. The ends on the roofs are turned out as well and... suddenly we have a 12 studs wide and 50 studs long police HQ The main entrance is using a lift, but you can also escape through the roof The whole police force The interior had to be made so that it can fold in and leave space for the roof when on the move. There are 8 rooms and a briefing room in the middle. Mission control, armory, kitchen and a reception in one side Lost and found (You can see the board for the briefing room in the picture), sleeping room, laboratory and interrogation room, which doubles as the place where mug shots are taken, on the other side of the station The whole gallery at brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=229158

Very very nice. 32 sounds pretty intense. How much planning did you do before that? It's nice to see a building that you walk past so often become a Lego creation, but do you have any plans for adding the clock to the tower as well?
-
Ah, Model Team. My favorite theme! I like it. It has the style of the new big Ferrari sets, but without the strange looking stickers everywhere. I especially like the gear knob for some reason. I can see you have been experimenting with the steering mechanism, but did the solution with the large rack really work? I'm thinking about the one in this picture: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2198801

I like all the suggestions xenologer. The robot scout and exploration vehicle are both late add-ons and were not thought about when I made the ship. This is not ideal, and the whole creation was pretty much an incremental build. The first generation of the ship was actually with the crew quarters and everything together, and I think it was meant to be possible to walk inside of this ship, but the final product didn't leave enough space for that. Although the ideas are good, I don't think I can save the ship by just changing most of it - I have to build a new one from scratch. It must be highly modular like some of the early LEGO space themes, but at the same time have a much more coherent and compact design with a basic overall shape. It will probably take quite some time before it's finished. I have taken some pictures of the remain from the other creations from back then just for fun: There was a white theme with ground vehicles only. They could all be combined to a single vehicle like the mothership The third theme was mostly like Ice Planet 2000. It had a first generation mothership which could land on this vehicle The theme with the big mothership did also have a ground vehicle which wa basically a big gun with wheels ... and a home base The entrance to the base was guarded and hidden

My exams are finally over, and after consulting jipay about where it's best to post this (thanks for that), I will present one of the oldest creations of mine that is still intact. I'm not completely sure about its age, so I had to guess by the release dates of the sets that are used. I can now see that it has to be from 2000 or later because of the dark gray cones. On to the model. It is a small mothership in style of the Exploriens space theme. It is actually a second generation model. The first generation model had only the two completely black fighters. This model has 6 smaller vessels There are four armed single personal transports, a remote controlled scout and an exploration vehicle A laboratory and a control room ...and a small utility room in the rear One of the transports is docked from below Here is how it looked after standing in the attic for about five years I washed it... and put it out in the rain for the pictures (it's getting late early, so I couldn't wait long before it wa too dark) The full gallery at brickshelf: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=226597 Back in the time before all the years of scavaging I had three competing space themes, and there was even a home base for this mothership, but the remains are almost unrecognizable now. I wanted to share this creation with you before it will be destroyed as well. There are some ideas for a replacement, but I don't know have any time schedule for it. I know black is a bad color for pictures and the ship was made with playability in mind, but I please don't hold the critique back - I will use it for my future space creations ;-)
