The pictures might be removed, but the damage to my economical situation has already been made. The price will translate into 4000kr. ($800) if LEGO keeps its pricing policy from all the other years, and the set it a must have for some of us I wonder how well the garbage compacter will work. It doesn't seem very functional.

I just took a google pictures search for reference. Wow! It is incredible accurate compared to the real thing, and in that relatively small size you have chosen, I'm genuinely amazed. Good job!

With these (highlighted) themes, one would think you have just been dragged back out of the dark ages. Do you change favorite themes often (like me) or have these themes simple gathered your interest because of their... awesomeness? Welcome to EB, a good place if you are a LEGO-holic

I picked up this set mainly because of the many (5+spare) glow in the dark parts and the promise of 2 racers and one helicopter for the price of a little more than two racers (90kr. vs. 2x40kr.) The box The back of the box shows the two alternate models you can build if the polybags rip. There are 3 cheese slopes and two 1x2 tiles that glow in the dark, where the tiles are exclusive for this set. The total parts count is high at 142, but there are no really big pieces among them. Inside the box you will find the building instructions, a sheet with some odd sticky labels (thrown away) and 3 polybags marked by the bag building difficulty. The models The lime colored car doesn't bring out anything new. We have seen racers built like that before, but it does contain some nice bricks for the collection. The police cruiser surprises with an interesting design along the sides as seen here. It is harder to build because of the greater level of details: The helicopter is without doubt the hardest vehicle to build in a bag. I can't finish it because it's larger than the bag. You can't put on the top blades nor the tail of the thing, so it beats the forklift from 7733 where the top bar is the new kind that doesn't completely fit. There is also instructions for the alternate models, but it requires the bags to be opened... The vehicles are pretty standard for the racers theme with the police car being the highlight of the set Conclusion I like the difficulty curve between bag 1 and 2, but the last bag should be labeled 1000000 instead of 3. It requires some inhuman skills to build that helicopter in the bag... ? Lime colored car: 3 - We have seen it before, but it has some nice pieces... and lime. Police Cruiser: 9 - It has a massive diffusers, rare parts and a high level of details. It is a shame LEGO relies so much on stickers. Helicopter: 6 - if you see it as a set for one fourth of the price of the cars, it is quite amazing, but you can't bag build it and I would personally prefer some more detail instead of the big size. Overall it is a nice little set, but the police car is the main attraction. I wouldn't get the other vehicles if they were sold separately. Brickshelf gallery

Power Functions trouble
Lasse D replied to simonwillems's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
N00biness? Not really. It is because of the designs of the motors (4 pins of input) where you can set the power in a special way so they block/brake. If they are stopped, but not blocked, they "float" - just like a motor without power. This is most noticeable on the XL- or NXT-motors because they get extremely hard to turn. Old motors with only two lines of input can't block, but you can "change the polarity" to get a similar braking force. The beeping sound is there because the power is very low (notice it's only 2 on the regulator). You can avoid this by applying more power I am only using official LEGO pieces, so the PF trains will definitely be speed regulated - they already are if you use the current PF-parts! -
Power Functions trouble
Lasse D replied to simonwillems's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
LeJos has finally added support for the IRLink in the latest SVN, so I guess it will come in the next beta (or RC?) release. I have added support for the single output PWN mode, so you can control the speed of each motor individually as well - (without timeouts!) Since so few people have seen the power regulation of PF, I have made a small video of a test. The IR-receiver is powered using the battery box trick mentioned above and the NXT simple outputs the 16 PWN-modes in sequence: Float, forward 1-7, stop, backward 7-1. -
We didn't have a summer last year... or so I was told. I'm a computer scientist, so I don't get out of my basement that often. We have been extremely lucky with the weather at the event. Now those are some l33t MOD skills Now back to my review... expect frustration.

My hands are pretty shaky as well, so here is a solution I came up with: Your head is usually steady, so press the camera towards your face. I'm sure it looks ridicules, but you can usually still use the viewfinder and the results are clear and focused pictures. Combine this with good lighting and you will come a long way towards great pictures. I think you have some good innovative uses of bricks in your creation Wilhelm screamer, but even the best creation will look bad if the quality of the pictures isn't up to par. (I'm lazy. Do we have a photo-taking-tutorial on EB?)

The only missing parts are the black brackets for the Jeep right? I got some from the nice Space Skulls set , so unless the minifig is a missing part, I don't need the extra, extra extras. Thanks for a great event everyone. Never before has a ride in the barrels been that wild! I have now been out in the sun for yet another week and I'm still as pale as a Space Skull warrior.

They did. There are 3 in the world What about a Bond theme?

Wow! 4 studs wide FTW! I'll second that. Great work!

Thank you very much Asuka, but I get the hint. Last.

This super set contains many of the city sets you can get for your mini city hospital. The smallest set is the 7902 car with a doctor. I thought it looked a bit too slow. Here is a car you can build with the same bricks. The instruction manual for the ambulance does contain a picture of an alternate model, but it is actually quite hard to build something significantly different. This sets lacks some SNOT-bricks, so I had to be a little more creative and came up with this ambulance. It is more a hearse than an ambulance. The helicopter has a lot of slopes, so I built a speed boat for those special emergencies. Unlike the first two sets, I used far from all the bricks in this. This set does really have some great parts. The brickshelf gallery with some more pictures. Is anyone up to the challenge and build some alternate models of the last set in the super pack - The hospital?

When will we see a schedule for the event? I have a couple of obligations Thursday evening, so I would like to know when I will get some time.
-
Yep - and I will be the winner. That is one of the core rules I hope this will not be an alternate model competition. The set doesn't appear to be that suited for this. Which reminds me that I must check the trade post for whacking paddles.
-
You can no longer find these sets in LEGO market. I was there the first day and everything that was anything good was ripped away from the shelves. If you are lucky, there will be a small PAB-ish box with some good parts. One of my friends found some train accessories there some days ago, but these deals don't last long.
-
Thanks for not telling us that in the first post I hope this, and a whacking paddle, will be sold in the LEGOLAND shop.
-
I should be in Billund around 3 o'clock. I have to visit some friends first, but I expect to be in LEGOLAND soon thereafter. So. Where do we meet? My phone nr. is +45 20 67 66 46 (can be found using any number service in Denmark, so there is no need to hide it using PM). I hope there will be some info about where we should be, but I can always be reached on this number if there is anything. I will be on foot, so don't expect me to help out with the carrying of luggage from the airport

8455 Backhoe Loader
Lasse D replied to chris_austin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
These are some of my favorite sets, and I don't even own 8455! There were 2 8455s and one 8459 when the Market opened in LEGOLAND this year for about half MSRP. I didn't get to them fast enough and suddenly a busy mom was standing with one of each set without an idea of the values of these sets. She let one of my friends have the 8455 while I got the 8459 because the child didn't have interest for these pearls. I would pay $200 for a new 8455 without blinking. -
If you are used to using Windows Paint, I can recommend the Linux clone Kolourpaint, but it doesn't do bulk resizing (just like Paint... which I for some reason keep using ) The Gimp can be a frightening piece of software for a beginner. You need a lot of time to get into it.

It is a program I'm making for myself (ie. freeware) written in Java so it will work on MAC as well. It is a mosaic generator. We have seen a ton of them already, but I felt the ones out there lack some features. Here is an early shot where I played with the coloring algorithm to see how it compared to other programs: linky (Notice EB being #2 in my quick launch bookmarks ) It is still far from finished, but it should go public sometime before 2034. Here is how I have made the parser that find all info about colors from the Peeron html page: ColorSheetParser.java It is quite simple and reads both name, name from Peeron, name from Bricklink, RGB, Pantome, CMYK, RGB in LDraw and what the color had for lunch yesterday. In other words. It doesn't do what your program does, but it needs the same information about colors.
-
It looks nifty, but I can't help but think how much redundant work we do. I am currently writing a program that also uses the LEGO colors and reads them from the Peeron homepage (for easy updates, but uses a local copy). Well. I'll go back and write some more before another member releases a program that does the same

I'm crossing fingers for a handle to rotate those coupling magnets manually. Automatic coupling disengagement on!

Model Team: Mini Truck
Lasse D replied to Lasse D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm just way too predictable. And thanks for the comments people. I take any Exploriens resemblance as a comment - that series has my favorite big space ship The system is based on the one from 8872 (see link for details of the construction), but is improved so that it locks automatically. I have this shot from below the truck: But it doesn't really show how it works. Here is a better picture of the mechanism: This yellow chassis is the internals of a truck that I plan to finish once I have decorated the sides of the trailer... and bought a video camera. It is only half a year over due Thanks. It makes sense for me to have it under Technic. I appreciate your work. It should be possible to force a Model Team forum. All we (Ralph_S, me and others?) have to do is make LEGO drop Technic, Bionicle... and reintroduce the Model Team line. -
Big preformed pieces, wheels for engines and Bionicle weapons are normally things I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole when building large space ships, but I absolutely love this one Brickmaster. Good job. The combination of these elements and the big sculpted parts somehow work really well together.
