  1. I agree. When I heard a rumor for a modular town hall, I was hoping Jamie's old model as well. This one is a bit underwhelming to me but it still looks fine. I will still get it for sure. The croissants will have to be replaced. They just seem out of place. That's the beauty of Lego though. I hope this isn't the last modular building we see. It's large size makes me fear that they are trying to go out with a bang.
  2. I'm glad I was able to get S6 at the Lego store. Toys R Us is a rip off and some of the people at the one closest to me are kind of rude.
  3. I am well aware of the fact that it is unlikely that Lego will ever do a SF license but I still would like to see it.
  4. I had not seen that those images before. I figured red would have to happen soon. They have used it on packaging before despite the red Lego logo. Of course, considering how preliminary that box in the picture looks, it could change. After red, I would like to see purple and black. I don't know why I care so much about the color of the packaging though...
  5. Didn't megablocks or someone else have the Pirates of the Caribbean license before? Either way, licenses can change hands as they expire. I still doubt Lego would license Halo. It's not the kind of violence Lego usually finds acceptable. As far as a video game license, I think its only a matter of time. We may get minecraft due to cuusoo. I'm still hoping for Street Fighter. If the AFOL community grows enough though, I could see Lego eventually creating a more adult brand with more adult licenses/themes but they would probably have to market it under a different brand so there was no risk of confusion with sets marketed for children. Actually, this will probably never happen, but it would be great if it did. Oh yeah, series 7... can't wait. Has the package color been confirmed yet?
  6. I agree. I would think the cost of a new mold would be up front. After that, they can mold away till their heart's content. It is possible that the amount of plastic has something to do with it but I would think that the cost of plastic is negligible compared to factory/distribution costs. Once again, I really don't know the business that well so I am only speculating, but I still think the minifig distribution in each box has to do mostly with popularity/marketing. edit: I think I remember hearing something about it being expensive to set up a mold in the molding machinery so once it is set up, they want to mold a lot to justify the set up costs.
  7. I don't know. Three spartans, three elves, three gladiators, and three Romans. I bet we can count on three Space marines. It seems to me that every time they release something that seems really popular, among the AFOL community at least, it has a smaller distribution. I agree that most kids probably aren't army builders for various reasons but a lot of them (especially ones interested in the CM line) are definitely collectors so any minifig with a reduced count will make it harder for them to get them all. I know the AFOL market may be a small part of LEGOs market overall but I wonder how big the AFOL market is to the collectible minifig line specifically? Due to the large amounts of multiples and complete cases that AFOLs buy, I would think that the AFOL part of the market for the CM line is larger than it's portion of the entire LEGO market, especially when you include duplo and other such things. I do suspect that LEGO intentionally limits the (projected) most popular figs to increase overall sales but I'm happy that they haven't taken this marketing technique too far. Three per box is still not too bad when they could have one per box or even one in every three boxes etc... Of course, all this is speculation since I do not have access to LEGOs sales numbers, market research data, or marketing plans.
  8. ...And that's why they use blind packaging.
  9. It's so disappointing but not surprising to see three Roman soldiers per box. At least there are 5 highlanders. I really wish they would put 5 of the obvious army builders in these boxes. Hint to lego: if a mini figure is a soldier, it is probably a good candidate for a larger apportionment. Of course I know it wasn't an accident but still kind of unfortunate in my opinion. Still, I can't wait to get these in the NW US. I'm sure I'll get all the Roman soldiers I need, it will just take a little longer.
  10. I'm not Australian but I agree with you. The Sydney Opera house would have made a wonderful Taj Mahal sized set. I'm not a big fan of the architecture line.
  11. I'm not going to vote until I actually have them in my hands. Having them in person has changed my opinion in the past. For now, I am most excited about the Roman soldier, Minotaur, skater girl, and genie. The one I like the least is the statue of liberty. I would have preferred something less specific like a generic statue.
  12. Yeah, I'm in the Portland area too. I was just at Fred Meyer the other day and I couldn't help making a quick search for series 6 even though I know they probably won't be there for at least a couple of weeks. I'll post in this thread as soon as I find anything.
  13. Where I live, NW US, the Lego store usually gets them well after other stores like Toys R Us and Fred Meyer. However, each release seems to be different so it's difficult to say which part of the world/stores will get them first. I am always hoping Fred Meyer gets them because they always seem to have a bunch of them and I am surrounded by 5 or 6 locations. They also never seem to care how many I buy.
  14. I'm completely OK with the standard legs on the sleepy head guy. It reminds me of a twenty something year old lazy bum who still lives with his parents.
  15. I've only seen them on bricklink before the US gets them when they are sighted somewhere else first. When series 3 was released in the NW US I had them before I saw them anywhere else. I think it depends on who gets them first which seems to change from series to series. I still doubt the black box that was sighted is series 6 though.
  16. You're right. I was only kidding about Dark Brown. It's probably one of the last colors lego would use. I wonder if they will just start repeating colors if this series lasts much longer.
  17. White is a good wintery color for series 6. I wonder if they will continue to avoid dark colors in favor of bright colors. Black looked fine on the vintage minifig line. Maybe series 7 will be dark brown... but probably not.
  18. I hadn't seen that image before. That sure looks purple and the colors on the minifigs aren't very far off. I guess I can't be sure that series 6 will be white.
  19. I wasn't aware that series 5 showed up with a purple background at one time. Was it actually purple or a bad scan of light blue accompanied with the rumor that purple would be the series 5 color? Also, did the image have the question marks that are in the background on all the packaging? Either way, I agree with you about reusing colors in different shades before representing all the primary and secondary colors. It is odd to use blue twice after only 5 series.
  20. I've actually seen evidence that series 6 will be white, based on the picture with the white background and green question marks. I have yet to see any similar picture for series 7. I do believe red packaging is possible. They did it with the vintage minifig line. I'm sure we will see red eventually, maybe even dark red. edit: ^I meant we will see red packaging not bull-like anger^
  21. Does anyone know what the color (packaging) for this series will be?
  22. I personally believe that purchasing what you want from a retailer is completely acceptable. If it wasn't acceptable they would not allow it. It's not up to you, me or anyone else to judge a person's reason for buying minifigures. They don't even have to justify it with needing them for a MOC. If someone wants to buy 300 spartans just to set them up and look at them, they can. If someone wants to buy 300 spartans simply to melt them down into a big lump of plastic, they can. If LEGO or any retailer wants to take measures to limit army building, they can. My opinion is that LEGO should take measures to increase production of more popular figures but I'm sure they do what they do for their own reasons. Still, I do not mind if a kid doesn't always get what they want. Any kid who always gets what they want will probably become spoiled and miss a valueble life lesson. I don't always get what I want either.
  23. For me, that would be a nightmare. I guess I do not "enjoy the hunt" like some others here. I just want to purchase the product I want. I wish LEGO had an online store that sold you whatever collectable minifigs you want. If someone wants to buy 300 spartans, why should lego stop them? If one figure is outselling others, they should just make more. I guess the point is to keep buying the figures you don't want until you get what you want, which proabably increases sales. I just don't like that marketing technique so I feel the bags to get what I want.
  24. I can see your point but that's just the way it goes. It's not just kids, the same thing can happen to me. When I bought my first batch (almost two boxes) of series 5, it was strangely absent of gladiators. If anyone is to blame, it is Lego for including smaller amounts of highly desired army building figures and for the whole blind packaging in the first place. Still, it seems like production is not a problem anymore so if you're patient enough you can get what you want. I now have 17 gladiators (which is more than I need but I couldn't stop buying them).
  25. That reminds me of a line from the show Seinfeld. Maybe LEGO released these images early because they are starting production and they are afraid that someone from a factory will leak less marketable pictures like they did with series 6. If images are going to be out there, they might as well look really good to make the best possible first impression on consumers. I'm hoping the space marine helmet has the visor on the inside, right up against the face. I keep staring at the high res picture and I could swear the eyepiece looks to be more clear than the face details. Maybe I am am just seeing what I want to see though.
