Nice review of a great set, I think that one day all this one of these will be mine . Anybody know how long you can display a white Lego model before it starts to look tan?

LDD MOC: Luke's Landspeeder
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If I build it I'll probably post it there. I decided to post here because it was pretty much down to Superkalle's contest that I started work on it again - plus essentially it is using LDD as a tool for MOCing which was the point of the contest. I was hoping someone might help come up with some improvements though -
LDD MOC: Luke's Landspeeder
Praiter Yed replied to Praiter Yed's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks, it's my first SNOT (at least virtual SNOT). And for the engine I'm going to buy one of these... Thanks, getting the front right was the driving force behind the whole thing. -
First sneek peak at LDD 4.0
Praiter Yed replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've not really got much to add - it all looks very exciting. However, I've just downloaded the installer for version 3.1.3 just in case... Hope for the best but expect the worst - that's my motto. BTW I'm sure the kid in the 1st video was pictured on the box of my Connect 4 way back in 1978 - he hasn't aged a bit. -
Here's my version of Luke Skywalker's X-34 Landspeeder. I started work on this before TLG released their most recent effort (nearly a year ago?) and I suppose I gave up on it. When I discovered the secret of unlocking LDD's universal mode here on EB, I decided to give it another go. There are areas that are not very movie accurate - I would prefer to have the grill in-set, but I think that's a sacrifice I'll have to live with. The colour scheme is all wrong, I'm quite keen on using Medium Dark Flesh so I'm hoping TLG release more pieces in that colour - in particular 1 x 4 tiles. The top rear engine would be attached using an illegal connection (sorry) although I think it would be relatively easy to make a legal version. I'm trying to build a test model at the moment but haven't even got the right parts for that! Suggestions for improvement happily received... I would add some decals or stickers on the front to continue the grill effect. Test model... Latest version: Version X More images here. lxf file is here. EDIT: Inserted test model image. EDIT 13.01.11: Updated lxf file to Version 10 which has improved structural integrity and more movie accuracy.

Arvo's VolksWagen beetle in LDD
Praiter Yed replied to shimon's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I was ignorant of the Arvo Brothers until reading about your MOC (although I now realise I've seen some of their work before - amazing). I think your LDD beetle is a fantastic recreation. Maybe, if you can't get all the right colours you could try a multi-coloured version - as if it's been crashed and repaired with spare parts -
Fair enough. I totally disagree with some of your opinions but wholeheartedly agree with some of the points you make. I've found it genuinely interesting to read the POV of someone who is less enthusiastic about LDD. I would like to add that I find LDD surprisingly relaxing - although it could never come close to the tactile pleasure of running your fingers through a box of bricks. But, I would still say to you and any LDD doubters... try it, you might like it.
-
I imagine that most people using LDD do enjoy it, why do it otherwise? And for me using LDD is almost exactly the same as working - luckily, I love my job. Although... there does seem to be a theme running through this thread suggesting that many of us LDD users don't own too many bricks, at least not as many as you. So perhaps if we did, we would skip LDD and get building, after-all that IS the point of Lego. What still confuses me is this... I still can't understand why you would make that comment without even using the software? And if memory serves me correctly, weren't you recently working away without your bricks? - In which case wouldn't LDD be the perfect solution?
-
Yeah, the X-Wing is a good choice, it's totally swooshable and comes with an excellent selection of figures. Pair that with Darth Vader's Tie Fighter and you've got hours of fun acting out space battles around the house. Of course, The Battle of Endor is great playset. Lots of characters, lots of vehicles, maximum playability.

Thanks for the pointer - for some reason I always pass by that thread - doh! - Nice work BTW. Maybe Legowill1 should post his there too?
-
Nice one - just last night I was thinking about trying to create some CubeDudes in LDD, and now, you've done it. I'll try to think of something else for you to do tonight. In the meantime how about a link to your lxf file? - Is that cheeky?
-
You should give LDD a try, it really isn't awkward or clunky. I also design mostly in my head, but LDD to me is like a sketch pad - it's a really quick and intuitive way of getting designs out of your head and onto paper (except the paper is a computer screen ). Plus it provides the opportunity to try out bricks you may not own.

I can't say I'm excited about any of these sets, but I think us OT fans need to stop complaining. We've had a good run recently and I for one still haven't bought all the 2010 sets I want (and there's still the UCS Imperial Shuttle to come!). Plus with the possibility of more big OT sets in the 2011 second wave we might need as much cash as we can muster for summer. Will probably end-up buying the Naboo set though - my daughter just loves Gungans.

I've been thinking this technique could make a nice mini tie fighter (I don't have enough dishes ).

Another good review Cralegoboy. This set annoys me! The At-At driver is too random - who needs to build an army of these guys, and for that matter how many Imperial officers do I need? I understand that TLG might want to add some variety - but personally I'd rather have 4 Snow-troopers. What's the point of the base? These fellas have landed with At-Ats - why do they need a tiny base? - To hand out Slush-Puppies to thirsty troopers? And the Speeder-Bike, is just plain lazy! OK, the legs fit nicely over the big moulded motorcycle (or whatever) piece, but in general it lacks movie accuracy and bends at the front! IT BENDS!

Thanks for the review Cralegoboy - I bought this just for the figures. I haven't even built the Ice Cutter, but as you say it has some useful parts (maybe the crate is for storing ice - I hear Hoth ice is especially good for G&T's). Personally I think the new style rebel head-gear makes their foreheads look huge - but nicely shaped goggles. Zev Senesca does seem a bit random, although he's pretty generic so a cheap way to stock-up on rebel pilots.

These are really nice and clever ads, but I don't think the minifigs have really been illustrated. It's more than likely that the ad agency commissioned an illustrator to draw the tats and a photographer to shoot the figs then photoshopped them together. I don't think the ad is literally suggesting the pen is fine enough to draw tattoos on a minifig it's more of a humorous suggestion that 'this pen is damn fine'. Just think how fine the pen would have to be for the level of detail here - why would anyone need a pen so fine? Of course, I could be wrong. EDIT: Forgot to mention; The biker's hand has definitely been photoshopped.

I prefer the new Boba. But, I don't think his popularity will impact on the resale value of the Cloud-City version. I think due to it's limited availability Cloud-City Boba will always remain a collectors item. As for whether the new version will ever be as sought after, I think we'll have to wait and see how readily available he becomes; will he appear in more sets, will he be a magnet? Ultimately there will undoubtedly be a time when the youths of today are raising families of their own and reminiscing about their old toys (20-30 years?), that's when new Boba will become a wanted man once more.

Would be better for me to even have a partial part list than continue with how I'm listing the parts I need at the moment. Seeing as the EB poll is showing almost 50/50 Mac & PC users maybe when Superkalle has some spare time he could create LDD Manager for Mac too ? Also how about a LDD app for the iPhone - how hard can that be?
-
This is difficult. I like Arealight's shaped torsos - I'd like to see TLG adopt something similar in future. I hate the way they try to print a shapely female form (Imagine Slave Leia with a moulded torso - Mmmmmmmmm ). But then, I prefer that you could use TLG's head to create characters other than Twi-leks and I think the expression is more in-keeping with the ethos of a Jedi. The official version just scrapes a win from me - but I still want Arealight's Oola - Mmmmmmmmm
-
I agree that the 1x1 cone didn't work, I think it stuck out too far from the hull and didn't quite match the scale - thanks for indulging me. At first glance I wasn't too sure about the curved pieces at the back either but when I imagine them in light bley I think it will look cool - I hope you left your previous BrickLink order open
-
This is way too big! - It needs to be small enough to fit in the micro-hanger of your micro-Death Star But seriously, really nice work! IMHO I think it could be improved if you could use a 1x1 cone as the cockpit instead of the tap. I don't know how you would do this, but I bet You could
-
I love this micro-Death Star. I've been trying to figure out how you did this since yesterday - now you told us I don't know if I'm pleased to know or disappointed that I couldn't work it out I think the size of the super laser is fine. Will you be posting a final version when your Bricklink order arrives?
