  1. Considering that I think a lot of parents and grandparents who don't know that much about their kids' 'Legos' turn to TRU to buy toys from, it's rather smart. Just take of the so-called 'TRU tax,' say that it's on sale, and you were overcharging people enough originally that now the discount looks substantial. At least in my experience, all of my close relatives know that I'm a huge fan of LEGO, and a few of them spend a lot of time looking for sales. I cannot count the number of times I've had to say that a TRU sale on LEGO isn't actually a good deal. (Not that I don't appreciate the fact that they let me know.)
  2. I've seen a few sets like the UCS Millennium Falcon and the Cloud City playset reach ridiculous prices on the aftermarket, but a lot of sets don't really gain that much value. If you buy a handful of extra copies of large sets, hit the jackpot and eventually resell all of them for twice what you payed, we're still only talking about $500 profit after you've hung on to the sets for years. Trying to make more by buying lots of copies of sets just to resell later seems risky, and it's also something that I don't think very many of us AFOLs respect. My view has always been that LEGO is a toy; it is meant to be played with. If you want to invest money in something, there are other things you could do with the money, such as stocks or real estate. Buy the LEGO you want for yourself, open it, build it, enjoy it. Besides, if you're like me, you'll love your collection so much that you won't ever want to sell any of it.
  3. I must say, those side doors are very nicely integrated.
  4. I change my target for my second action to Aepyornis C, Back Row.
  5. If you like, PM Bob or myself first and we can set up a big group PM.
  6. Absolutely. Haven't really been able to build that much in the past year (Being a university student leaves me no room in my bedroom to store LEGO, no time in my schedule to build LEGO, and no money in my budget to buy LEGO. ), but I'm happy to give feedback.
  7. I use a Smelling Salts and then I attack Aepyornis A from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow. "I'm assuming we're going to take around ten to twelve Free Hits here, so I'll Hasten myself in case I need to heal someone. I recommend taking out the Silver Carp first, Miss Uq — despite the fact that an untargeted Aepyornis deals two Free Hits, the Silver Carp are less than half the HP of the Aepyornises at a comparable Level." Order of Actions: Undead Bartholomew Docken Bartholomew Docken Johon Namyrra
  8. You should definitely mention that when presenting the MOC, because it's a very interesting interpretation of how the Naboo would design things if Star Wars was a steampunk universe, and I think it makes a lot of sense. Maybe not what most people expect to see, but it does make sense. I think the main drawback there would be that it doesn't have quite the same Rube Goldberg machine charm that some other steampunk MOCs do. Walkers are definitely difficult to make believable, but generally throwing some gears driving chains into the joints and some pistons with pipes leading to a boiler (after all, it's powered by steam) will look like it works.
  9. I like how this isn't just the basic Classic Space conversion by recoloring something in grey and blue and adding a couple greebles. I can still clearly see the influence of the landspeeder, with the curved front and the three engines, but everything else is completely redone as if you were building some other sci-fi vehicle rather than Luke's landspeeder, and I think it works beautifully.
  10. I love the droid commando head used as a hood ornament. I also really like the use of the old Aquazone octagonal pipe pieces to shape the fuselage — they make for some very interesting shapes, and they've got a more industrial feel than slopes. I do kind of wish that there was a little more 'Steampunkishness' incorporated, things like gold trim and exposed gears and belts and pipes that look like they're actually running something, rather than being there for the sake of having visible gears and belts and pipes. You have a lot of great Steampunk detailing here, but in a way it looks like the ship is still a regular N-1 powered by two standard wing-mounted engines at its core, with some Steampunk detailing added on. Nevertheless, still one of the cleanest conversions of a curved, colorful PT ship into Steampunk. Nice work!
  11. Welcome to EB! Have to love the classic look of this MOC. Blocky, but still very nicely shaped. When I was ten, my 'MOCs' were rainbow race cars modded with hinged plates added to turn them into 'X-wings' and sets broken down into major elements, then mixed up back together to make random spacecraft. This looks really good: the color blocking and the shaping are spot-on, all the major details are there, the pistols are removable...
  12. I have a Toshiba from '06 that I use from time to time. Some low-clock-speed dual core Pentium, 1 gig of RAM, video card so bad that it's the budget version of Intel GMA series, screen is fifteen inches of bluish blurriness. Idled at 60% CPU and 80% of RAM after years of using Vista, but I installed a Linux distro (CentOS) and now it uses its resources at a normal, acceptable rate. By no means fast, but it's been useable and reliable when I've used it.
  13. I know there is a pretty simple to use setting for what Windows does when the lid is closed...it's just stuck in some random place, something to do with the battery and the energy settings. (At least in Vista; I switched to OS X in 2010, so I don't know where it is in Win 7 or 8.)
  14. Wookieepedia had previously said that she did die on Kashyyyk. Her death isn't seen in Sith, though, so with the entire EU being made non-canon, there's no conflict if Rebels resurrects her.
  15. Congratulations, WBD!
  16. Oh, that's cheaper than my shield upgrades.
  17. Most of the Marketplace artifacts are ones that you'll buy because they provide a decent bonus, you don't need the Gold for something else, and you have an empty artifact slot. Most of them end up being replaced by something you get in a quest or buy from another player.
  18. Mimes can use shields, anyways. So, yeah, no reason for me not to just upgrade the shield, at least until shield upgrades become more expensive than Bright Polish. (How much is that worth? I didn't see where they were sold.)
  19. No matter what made you think that we'll see something as a set or how obvious or plausible it seems to you, if there isn't a source specifically telling you that it will be a 2015 LEGO set, then it belongs in Future Star Wars Sets. For example, if a scene from Episode VII is published that shows, say, the Death Star III, and that makes you think we'll see an updated Death Star set, then that belongs in Future Star Wars Sets. On the other hand, if you find an online store that lists, say "75099 Death Star" as a LEGO product, or if you know someone who gets a retailer catalog and says that a new Death Star set is coming, then that would belong here. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not trying to be too strict with this, but if the majority of the conversation is veering off-topic towards concepts of sets for which we don't actually have any evidence of existence, then I do need to intervene to prevent any readers from being misled or from having to dig through all the speculation to find the actual rumors.
  20. Welcome to EB! I really like what you've done to slim down 6208, getting rid of those big, bulky curved slopes. I especially like the cockpit — very sleek — as well as the fact that even though you've left a lot of studs exposed, you've broken it up with some tiled or SNOTed areas, and you have some subtle layering of the studded plates. Even though I'm usually a proponent of the studless approach, I think your MOC looks quite good: coherently styled, but not so primitively studded as to be ugly. Great work, and, once again, welcome!
