[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Lalror replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have mentioned this before, but I would like to see more minifigure interaction, with the minifigs being in higher detail they could be animated and could thus interact with the surroundings that you build. For those of you who understand the "behaviors" found in Lego Universe, this would be another feature that would be super fun to see happen. I love the way that I can climb up a high staircase I build, smash a hidden door that will build itself back in 3 seconds, and enter a fortress from which I can dive from and fly for a few seconds before I hit the ground below. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Lalror replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It would ultimately contain the high level of detail pieces for all the minifigs that Lego has ever created, but, it would also allow for changable colors such as the decal mode allows currently. It would look very similar to the minifig creators in the TT games, which take less time to find the types of pieces for specific body parts. Basically, it would be a mini-program that would include more options than the LU mode has currently, and would make the minifig creating process simpler to use. Also, on a side note, I would to be able to use the actual pieces that the minifig are made up of, e.g. I would be able to take the hands off from the larger torso piece. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Lalror replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I would like a terrain mode that I could use to make ground similar to the surfaces in the TT games only without all of the trees and things that can be easily made with Lego. A minifig creator tool that we can use to create minifigs with easier. -
program like POV-RAY for LDD
Lalror replied to bricklayer's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
POV-RAY is what you call a renderer, it basically takes your models from the boring simple graphics options and allows you to edit lighting and everything to make the model look exactly how you want it. There are a number of these available and they are all good. What you need in LDD to use these is more export options. Some of the popular 3D file types include 3ds., blend., skp., etc. I hope lego expands the features that LDD has in the future and this is on a long line of features that I hope to see. -
Welcome, great to have you here. I recently joined too and its really a great place.

I probably own around a hundred but a lot of them are old and so I really only use about 40 of my nicer ones for my moc's.

What is your favorite LEGO color ???
Lalror replied to Brick Miner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I love the new dark brown color! It work perfectly along side black and adds to almost any creation. -
@Jareth: I used this backpack piece. @Scorpiox: It is from some of the older Harry Potter sets.

What services are you using to host your images and files. I started out using Bricklink but it wasn't creating thumbnails from my files for me so I am now using Flickr and Dropbox. I found Dropbox very easy to use in terms of uploading things to the internet because all I have to do is move the file to a different location on my computer. Either way, I hope that you figure everything out, your creations are good and I hope to see more.

Here is a new trailer for the upcoming Lego potc game. It shows some actual gameplay and over all the game looks far better than any of the previous TT titles. Enjoy, Lalror

On the topic of liscenses, does Lego have the right to use the face and clothing decals on other pieces. For something as detailed as a stormtrooper helmet I could understand why the Star Wars people wouldn't want that outside of the Star Wars theme, but for things like Indiana Jones legs it isn't to obvious that its actually a licensed piece. Especially for things such as LDD I would like to see some more semi-liscensed pieces used. Is this allowed?

The whole aspect of digital Lego’s is possibly one of the most interesting things that Lego has done. By not having any physical pieces people can animate them, and create amazing worlds as evidenced in Lego Universe. Without these physical limits, people don’t have to spend a buck, and yet build the biggest Lego creation of their life. Lego Digital Designer is a great program, epically the Lego Universe Mode, and I am exited to see how these tools will be improved in the future. One thing, that I think Lego nailed head on, was the “properties” in Lego Universe. Actually having a minifig, that you can control, and explore the models you created with, definitely adds something to the whole experience. This is definitely something I would like to experience outside of Lego Universe. I have mentioned this to Lego several times, but I would pay a hundred bucks for a complete Lego sandbox. I would love to be able to create a minifig using every Lego piece I want, and then build a world that I could explore using that minifig. Other computer games have tried to have good “sandbox’s,” but when it all comes down, they are either too simple, or way to complicated to get anywhere with, or the amount of customization results in a bunch of junk. Lego bricks, are by far the best way to accomplish this, although there are good, and bad models, I think that anybody can build whatever they want, if given enough time. I think to accomplish this, Lego first needs to add a few more tools to their current digital programs. One of these would be a terrain mode. I know one of my biggest disappointments with the TT games, (although I still love them incredibly,) is the large amount of non-Lego surroundings. Common people, there are a billion ways to make Lego trees, bushes, buildings, anything, that's what Lego is about. But the one thing I did realize was that for the ground, you really can’t use normal Lego pieces. I have seen many people do very nice landscapes using Lego bricks, but I know that it would simply look better if it were smoother and more realistic. Details of this “terrain” mode would include basic 3D sculpting to create things like hills and gorges etc. It would also include a paint mode that would provide a variety of textures and colors that would be used to create forest ground, snow, and deserts. Just this tool alone would be a welcome feature to the ever growing Lego Digital Designer. One more thing that Lego really has to do one of these days, and do right, is make a “complete” minifig creator. The best minifig maker in terms of customization is found in the games that are produced by TT, second, comes the one in Lego Digital Designer’s LU Mode, and third is probably the Lego Universe Minifig creator. What needs to happen is that Lego just needs to add all of the minifig pieces into one place. How hard can that possibly be. The LU mode in LDD has nice options in terms of being able to choose a decal for the shirt, and then color it, and this needs to be expanded to include all of the Lego cloths designs. I don’t know about others, but even when I go through a dark age, the one thing that I can still do is pick up some arms and legs and build a great looking minifig. Minifig’s are Lego’s trademark these days, and it would be great to be able to create them digitally. Creation is what Lego is all about; a Lego sandbox is creation in its purest form, and I would love to see it happen. ~Lalror
