Okay, this project isn't dead. I was just really busy at the end of 2012/2013, when I moved to a new house and spent most of that year decorating. Last year I slowly started obtaining the 7800 bricks I need for the next part of my Bastion. So, anyway, I almost have all the parts and started building again. Here are my results so far. I'm so glad someone got this! It was indeed intentional, I think the smaller sets don't use the darker tones, which is why you don't see them in the official Red Team vehicles? With this model I wanted to give the Red Team something bigger, so I figured I might as well add some dark red, just like you said, to make it match the larger sets from the other teams.
