  1. Atlantis, definately, Western World, could do with a good story, perhaps make it the southwest, maybe tie things in with Mexico that would open the door to ideas of Aztecs. I know they've done China but we do have ninjas about - something in Japan? And here's my top take on it, what about Old Europe being southern Europe, something Greek or Roman? I remember reading an Indiana Jones novel that was set in Greece and was based on the mystery of the Oracle of Delphi. ;-) Also, forgot to mention it, but something in colonial Africa would be a beeeg easy because you can combine Pirate Imperial Guards and Soldiers as the British and French, the Islanders as native Africans and there's also the Egyptian Adventurer sets to compliment stuff. A bit like Dino hunting only now with Gorillaz in the congo etc. We already have elephants from India.
  2. Royal King's it is... So much more like what Lego was, don't like the direction of most sets these days, they are turning into something not Lego... :-(
  3. I can hear them singing... It's a small world after all... It's a small world after all... So many of the sets are compatable when you are trying to create specific historical themes although admittedly the space stuff belongs in space...
  4. That sweet shop is especially good, so vivid and detailed, doesn't it just suck that there's only so many bricks in the world that we have to break down the models...
  5. Looking at those pics in Denmark of the Soldiers guard post we all know Legoland has life sized models. What I was wondering is if there is anyone here, or in the other forums that has enough lego to produce to scale the same kind of thing. Could anyone build a proper two meter tall soldier, pirate or knight? Does anyone even have the space of number of bricks to build an actual walk in fortification? Even if only 5 year olds could fit in that would still count. I guess what I'm looking to see is a model that is so huge it actually becomes a building in it's own right? Can you imagine if we could build a full sized hut or something? I'd love to go further with this idea but as people have limited space and budgets I just wanted to see what anyone had come up with and how far they'd gotten?
  6. All i know is ebay in England has incredible demand for Imperial Guard and Soldier, people will easily pay around
  7. That is an increadible project you got there! I didn't go through all the pics, there were so many... But you've got so many variations on the design! It does look something like Port Royal on steroids! A pity about all the renovation going on at your house. Just trying to imagine it all on a natural looking set with model sea and sky etc. I am eagering awaiting when you have finished it all off and can present the models without the household scenery, you really must make sure you do that, all that hard work and it all looks incredibly impressive! God, wish I had half as much lego as that to produce such a vast scale model. Well well done lad! :-)
  8. Wow, those prices sound pretty damn good. i don't have any Star Wars lego yet... Now Now boys, go easy on me, I've had to concentrate on building up my Imperial forces because there just seems to be too many pirates everywhere! I have always loved Star Wars although I'm considerably more retro and not jump up and down about the newer movies. I would love to get some of that woolworths lego but alas I won't be in the country in the new year and my luggage is already full to the brim of pirate and knight lego. :-( Wow, those prices sound pretty damn good.
  9. Unfortunately my little Corsican dictator I haven't got any creations to show, atleast not for a while as all my lego forces are being held captive in storage on the other side of the world! I am hoping to do some rescuing around Christmas time, in the meantime I am playing around on the computer trying to develop maps and scale templates of official models for making a huge set design. If I get somewhere with it all I'll try share the designs or ideas with you fellas. I'm also looking to make some pirate comics, story books featuring the figures, maybe a stock motion video or two, who knows... Mr Tiber... a privateer you say, hmm I demand proof! Where are your articles of commission from the Dutch King? You know you need to produce those upon demand by the authorities of other nations in port else you'll be in for a good hanging! For that matter I doubt that even when real privateers did produce the articles they were except from hanging as privateers only had license to plunder designated enemy shipping in times of war. On the otherhand, it does save the cost of building and recruiting a formal navy... Ol' Queen Bessy of Ingelund knew that when the kingdom was totally bankrupt so she just gave blokes like Francis Drake and Walter Rileagh (however that is spelt) license to play cat and mouse with the Spaniards. Being an orange man I'd imagine you aren't big fans of them either...
  10. You chaps are hardcore with your budgeting! Mind you I used to think I had a large collection until I saw what people here have listed but considering people are paying as much as 150 Euros a month it's little wonder. Where do you manage to keep it all? I'm too mobile in my work so my forces are held captive in storage but with collections like most of you, you must have huge set designs or cupboards.
  11. Well if all else fails you could pretend they were South African troops at the turn of the century as before it became a republic, SA was officially The Union of South Africa so in effect we had another USA in the world for a few decades. Sorry but had to throw the bones there, love my history almost as much as my lego, or is it the other way around???
  12. Bugger, had hoped it was up the road in Jolly Ol' Windsor and I might have had a chance to see it. Even looking at the Robinson Crusoe figure on the island, doesn't it make you all wish you had a huge garden with a pool and about 20 tonnes of lego to just build you're own life size sets like this?
  13. Mr Phez, it goes like this... I am originally from South Africa although I'm British but have only been living in England a few years and not planning on being here forever so almost all my fleet, my fortresses and men have being held in captive in an evil attic in deepest darkest africa. I will be going back there for Christmas to rescue my men but alas I may have to leave them there again.
  14. Well the prices aside, which are... well, ow! The sets look great, especially the main tavern dockside looking piece. It does feel very Caribbean. What about a little more greenery though? :-)
  15. Surely we've all seen the yellow and grey ones but admit, blue, pink??? I had an ex girlfriend who used to have some of those Belville sets as a kiddy, unfortunately they were lost or given away but she mentioned them to me when I showed her my pirate stuff. Crap! Wish I had a chance to look for one of those technicoloured parrots!
  16. That thing looks increadible! It has to be Legoland surely... is that still standing now or was that assembled years ago, when they were selling Pirates? Does anyone have any idea? I wanna go find it and shoplift the whole thing, might be a bugger to fit in my pocket though. :-P
  17. *y* It's a good question... In the end I'll go with the Imperial Trading Post, which I personally have always preffered to call Port Royal. I remember saving for months for it as a kid and because I couldn't buy it in South Africa I waited until a holiday in the States and was so excited just to own it, easily the centrepiece of my collection. Question here for you folks, given that the official alternative name in some of the catalogues is Port Royal is it realistic to thing that the boys and girls at Lego were making a very deliberate statement about the Imperial Guards being the British Empire. It's a bit like the initial soldiers were wearing blue and had the fluer-de-liss on the flag, that says French to me but Eldorado Fortress... certainly Spanish or Portuguese.
  18. That was a brilliantly animated film and I can see how that took as long as it did. Has everyone here done a search on youtube.com for all the other lego pirate films? Most of them are pretty poor but this is the link for another one that I thought was really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROqIsKHaWaw The video features the Pirates Of The Carribean soundtrack and this guy used celephane, clingfilm for the waves. Looks really cool. *y*
  19. Hot potato! I bought a couple of the Egyptian sets not long ago but would never have thought The Big Block Org would be so imaginative as to actually produce a heiroglyphic code. I guess that was still in the days before Lego got too cheesy and boring with their sets. :-(
  20. That mystery set of photos had a great looking feeling to them... I suppose you could apply mystery to pirates, caste or wild west with equally dramatic effect. Nice job though.
  21. Brilliant idea making them Confederate troops! I don't have any Star Wars lego :-( but I've thought that the Imperial Officers in the films always had a deliberate Nazi air to them, maybe if someone has ideas on creating a WWII theme the Star Wars Imperial officers could be the Gerries... Any bright ideas on how to create Allied troops? The American Union troops also look a lot like French forces during WWI... One of the best things about Lego is how there are so many neverending options for things to be compatable. :-)
  22. Well most of my stuff I got from my parents back in the early 90's. Only recently have I had access to ebay and alas I have caught the bug of spending on there. I have spent about
  23. Read through the story and still waited for something to kick off. Yeah, even something that short would be good with some pics. I've found other sites where some people have made their own lego pirate comics. I'm planning to do something like that myself but at present my lego collection is on the other side of the world... you can't imagine the withdrawl symptoms! :-(
  24. Well this is on the pirate side... It's a good poll, I am and always will be primarily a pirates boy but I confess to owning castle sets too. Arg Arg!
