Is this accurate in some way? I didn't find that kind of building in the book.. But the building itdelf is very nice. Nicely detailed in the ground level but I don't like the roof. It's just...dark gray.. :-P

Preference of Imperial Guard Epaulette colour
Mile85 replied to Peg Leg Pascoe's topic in LEGO Pirates
I like blue epaulettes, it might not be historically the most accurate version.. but the color combination is nice. -
Hmmm.. I've never even thought of that before. How big are they? I'm kind of an expert in this area but in modern artillery only... but if we think that round 1x1 lego brick as a round shot... it's in my opinion 32 to 36 bounder. For example, if round shot is 16cm in diameter and it's iron of course :-D and iron weighs about 7kg/15,5lb / dm3. If I calculate that...that shot weighs about 15kg/32lb And please correct me if I calculated wrong, but I don't think so..

I agree with that. I have lots of european sets and none of them have "pirate stories" etc. There's only pictures under the flap. I'm 100% sure about this! "The later boxes (1993 on) were in English, French, and Spanish, and had only a short, general, framing story. Multi-lingual products and signage have become increasingly common in the U.S. since the early 90s, both to better serve customers who speak only or mostly Spanish and so that companies only have to print one box to serve their entire North American market (Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.)" That's correct too.

NO, I would not open a MISB set, but that's mainly because I already have almost all pirate sets (all the main sets at least).. I understand if somebody wants to open a misb set though, but not me! I have already opened so many MISB sets ;-)

Couldn't say it better myself, I totally agree! My vote for parrots.

I'd like to see a seaside town, port etc. but it has to be done with a good taste. Definitely NO to licence stuff.

Thanks, it's working fine. You can delete that problem account..

I bought a new castle set just recently(first new set in years) and I didn't like the quality at all..although the new softer plastic has a good sides too.. The worst thing is that new parts have slightly different color tone and the quality is inconstant. Bricksize differs from old ones and some parts doesn't mix at all..so I can't use new parts with old ones at all. Good things are, that softer bricks probably last longer and I think new bricks doesn't tend to change color as much as the old ones (I'm not sure, but the time will tell). But you have to be very careful if you want to keep them in good condition.. I tested to build just something randomly and if I handle them like the old ones...oh'boy the amount of scratches and little holes. You need to be lot more careful with these. And one more thing.. the darker the colour the better it looks, in my opinion at least.

Nice little moc you have there! Nice details.. You could have cut the fabrik of one piece..you know what I mean? Then attach it with rope etc.
-
yeah, I still have it. Photo is taken 2days ago... actually this photo does not represent the real colours of the mine, it's more darker and more yellow, I used too much light when I took the photos.. But what colours should I add to this mine? I just don't see green colour fitting in desert... And I was planning to paint my mountains, but I was afraid that I just ruin them, I'm not good at painting anything.. I painted my first mountain though, it's ok I think. I have boulders and foliage too :-P
-
I don't now exactly how to explain this in english, but here goes... first of all I built a raw model with cardboard..made some shapes etc. the the "papermass" or whatever I put water in a bucket then I put shredded newspapers in the water a and mixed it with powerdrill until it was completely loose and when you cannot see paper anymore"gray stuff" then I put paste(glue or whatever you call it,, ordinary wallpaper paste) in it. then just blend it more until it's like clay.. very easy to mold. and then you can build allmost anything with it.. so, I made my own mine :-D
-
I got lots of lego bricks now but not enough to built this like I want to build it. Nowadays, it's about the time, not the money... and I have 5 pirate mountains if I remember correctly.. I don't have pictures of them yet..This was the first that I saw when I searched my attic..
-
yep.. but I didn't have enough money back then to just buy a lot of gray lego bricks.. so I had to make my own mountain ;-)
-
so, what do you think about this...? I made this about ten years ago and I was 12 years old back then.. I have a few more of these... pirate themed etc.

thanks! so, you must be SW/space fan... Unfortunately I'm not X-D But I do like some of the lego classic space sets from 80's..that time was little before I started playing with legos, so the time wasn't right for me :-D
-
That set seems pretty useless to me.. there's only a Minifig Hat Bicorner without pirate logo, wich i would use.. But that's not the point, I probably would buy it too if had a change :-P How much did it cost?
-
option 1: has quite accurate yellow and green...but blue is too bright, make it a little bit darker and that's about it *y* And I agree Mister Phes' comment on option 2...
-
Thanks Holodoc! I'm planning to do couple of smaller isladers themed mocs before I start my bigger project.. Hopefully I can arrange enough free-time in the near future...
-
thanks for the warm welcome.. "how many castle sets do you have?" I don't have many castle sets because I had to choose wich theme I would collect, I didn't have the money to buy it all *n* I think, that's a common problem :-D But my answer is 9 or 10, few older sets from 80's and couple more recent sets. I have lots of pirate sets though *sweet* I've seen few of your mocs and they are pretty good.. You must have lot of castle legos... And I heard you like gray colour *y*

well..I assure you, this technique works ;-) if you cannot do anything with your hands, nothing works :-D
