[KEY TOPIC] LDD feature requests
Jan replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think they should anyway change the way the elements are rendered, for your ability to distinct the seperate elements in the model. Once they get that fixed or similar to al the other legocad software available the elements in the menu will be better as well. -
[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Jan replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
used a combination of four cheese slopes, one 1 x 4 tile and one 1 x 4 plate instead of the 2 x 4 x 2/3 slopes. these are available, they are in the "windshield" submenu.- 5,041 replies

Voting topic - LDD Only Class
Jan replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'm really having big problems choosing, but here I go: 1 point - Captain Blockbeard - 108 - Golden Gander SteamPunk Airship because of the whole atmosphere of the images and creation, and the short story 2 point - Set Sprinter - 150 - White Star Bridge Because I think this is typically a design which you prepare first in the computer before you start building. good luck, Jan -

Oops, thats my work, and it's not based on the actual instructions, it's just build from the high resolution foto's shared here on the forum. I made this file to be able to checkout if there was a chance I could motorize this model, but then I came upon a problem in ldd, attaching the frontwindow and posted it. I should have given it another name. So it's not similar, but looks the same.

Great model, but you sure this model consist of less than or equal to 2500 pieces?

It took a little while, but here it is, my first presentation of a model on Eurobricks. Although it's only digital bricks, I still hope you like it. Introduction A while back when cafe corner was presented I fell in love immediatly with this scale of buildings. Really something inbetween the legoland buildings and the city buildingscale. The holes and pins on the sides of the building kept a promise that was soon forfilled. Marketplace was there, a magnificent set of modular elements that, other than cafe corner, could be freely rearranged and rotated. The trend was set, at least, I thought so. Then came the green grocer, the fire brigade, and the grand emporium, and all the flexibility that I liked so much about Marketplace, was left behind and brought back to the holes and pins on the sides. (not that I don't like the buildings) Time for modular madness........... Apartments Where do all these city inhabitants sleep that get there vegetables at the green grocer, get there fresh croissants at the marketplace and buy dresses in the grand emporium. Well, here is the solution. Inbetween the grand emporium and the green grocer a piece of land was redeveloped, the old buildings just weren't good enough to renovate so they developed some modern apartments in place. I proudly present to you, 2500 bricks of modularity. according to superkalle's flawless ldd manager 2500 pieces ( yes exactly) 3616,7 grams 159 unique types of pieces class LDD only The set comes in 18 numbered bags containing one module each. Basement large 2x (16x32) Basement small 1x (8 x 32) Ground floor office / retail / cafe Module 2x Entrance apartments, staircase, mailboxes 1 Staircase 3x (one is topfloor staircase) Staircase glass roof 1x apartments 4x (2 are mirrored) penthouse apartment 1x roof garden 1x roof 2x (one with solar panels) The building is made in white stucco with wood as finishing on the balconies, acces galleries and roof garden. The staircase is separated from the apartments to gain flexibility. In combination with the acces galeries at the back of the building a lot of configuarations are possible without losing realistic connections to all apartments. The apartements and groundfloor office/retailspace can be mirrored, so that they can be connected internaly by removing the glass plates, or have glass on the outside so you can put the building on a corner as well. To give even more flexibility to the building every floor is provided with holes and pins, so you can easily make a heightdifference in your layout of place the building as a gate over the road. To finish my story I have made some screenshots of the apartment building in it's natural habitat. ( thanks Johnnhiszippy3, for using his ldd models of the modular buildings) And here is the lxf file to try it yourself. Can you come up with other configurations? Or can you build this in real bricks? Be my guest. Jan

Great building, and really close to the real thing. Just one small comment, I would make the floors of the balconies one or two plates thinner, they look rather massive now, and also leave out the plates under the tiles on top of the railing if you understand what I mean. I think that would make the balconies a bit more "Airy", if thats a word. I think the yellow gives the building an extreme fresh look, and fits well in the summertime.

That would indeed be great if you managed to get all that rolling stock on a video. One suggestion for your freight trains could be to make the staiton more a combined people and cargo station, so for instance cargo loading bays in the lower part, and people on the upper two levels. Jan

Your layout looks fantastic, I like the position of the trainstation as central (and also structural) part off your layout although it doesn't leave much space for other building structures. The scenery looks very nice with all these bridges, tunnels, and mountains. i do like the fact that your incline looks massive, and while the gray plates don't look like ballast, you could also imagine that it represents continuous concrete flooring like they use for highspeed trainstracks occasionaly. One minor thing, I have the feeling that the roof at you station is bit out of balance, It looks so massive. I guess I would have chosen a roof with lots of glass, similar to the facades. Are you also planning some facilities for all your freighttrains? Keep us updated. Jan

One question still about the 'built it yourself wheelsets'. We recently bought a few cars of the 7898, freight train, and the wheel sets came as seperate axles, wheels and holders. But I have to push on the very hard to make the wheels hit the plastic. These sound like build it yourself, but I might be wrong. Is this problem connected to the train sets of the 9v era? @AFOL12v, We keep everything, as stated in my first post, it was part of a birthdaypresent. Jan

Really want to see your pictures as your layout sounds great in words. I can't acces your brickshelf folder at all, it says folder not yet public. Maybe you pointed to a subfolder.

I'm not too sure if a 3d mouse will add much to the autoplacing function. I think that the biggest problem is, that it's invisible to the user what snappoint(s) is used in the brick or group of bricks you are dragging around. Once you have that visible, and changeable, I guess the placement will be a lot easier.

This is quite an amount of technical info thrown over me. To go short, in need to reduce friction in the wheelsets as much as possible. I have read through the railbrick article, and I will for sure check my newer wheelsets. Second, I have to watch what the train is capable of, so in case of a slipping engine, just lower the weight of the train, or use a second motor to pull the weight. I am not gonna sell the 12 volt rails, there are so many uses for these old rails that the new don't have, rollercoasters, moving cranes, use it as load on the train. The fact that you can take it all apart gives a lot of possibilities. Thanks for all the info, and after testing I think I come back with more questions.

Finaly I found the post you mentioned where the error was reported, I must have been reading over it. Anyway it's good that TLG is using our input to enhance the program. -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD 3 bugs and brick errors

As I was reading through the topic on the new city transport set and if it would be possible to motorise it, I thought why not check it out in ldd and see for myself. But I ran into a problem with the windshield in the front and back. It cannot be attached in place. There seems to be an invisible much bigger outline which prevents me from moving it closer to the curved stones. The much bigger windshield in the lxf file does attach properly just for demonstration purpose. lxf file -
I recently cleaned up all my 30 year old 12 volt train material as a gift for my sons birthday together with the new (but not newest) station (7997). And as I hoped he fell in love with these trains I used to play with a lot. As he is really a builder, more than a player, the railroad changes a lot and there is where the problem came in. The flexibility of the plastic seems to be reduced over time resulting in lots of damage on the sleeper plates, rails, points, etc. the plastic just breaks very easily. So now after half a year of playing(and damaging the tracks) I felt that I either had to replace a lot of 12 volt track and point etcetera or change to a different system. The last is what I did, so recently bought a nice portion of 9v rails a motor and powersupply. So now to the actual question. These 9 volt motors weight absolutely nothing compared to the old 12 volt, and on top of that there are also no weightblocks used in the 9 volt sets (the rc and pf trains have a batterypack as weight). I always thought that the weight was there to get grip, so isn't this needed with 9 volts?. And would it hurt the motor if I place these weightblocks?. Another question I have: When I bought the 9 volt rails and motor it came with an extra 9 volt motor wich was broken. I took it as I thought it might be nice for replacement parts in the future, but when I came home and managed to open it I got it working again (there was no contact between the powersupply and the motor). The only problem is that the person I bought it from allready opened it and I guess didnt put all gears back before closing, So I miss one small gear and metal axle to make my motor 4wd again. I hope anyone knows a place where I can find these parts, or a broken motor. I looked for it on bricklink and ebay but without result yet. I hope anyone can point me to a place where I can obtain this. Thanks for any help in advance Jan

My son got this set, and I am sure its all smokeglass, not only the car but also all the other windows (including the roofwindows), there is just one clear glass piece, and it's used in the top of the building with an alarm map sticker on it. Jan- 5,041 replies

First I like to say that the board looks great with the new update. One major problem I came across was this. click for screenshot the black part covers the top of every post a view seconds after I open a page on the forum or mainpage. When I scroll down, the black goes up with the top of the post. I am using Firefox 3.6.3 There are no problems when I use IE Hope you can find out what the problem is. Jan

[Software] LDD Manager
Jan replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Superkalle, I've tried http://www.brickforge.de/software/brickstore/ but I think I have to spent a little more time on it to get it to work for what I want. Right now I only get one set parted out, and allows me to export that to a bricklink store. If you have any other suggestions, I am very willing to try them out. Meanwhile I am working on my first "digital" MOC for the great LDD contest. Hope i will be able to surprise. LDD manager still comes in very handy for checking availability and partcount. thanks for your help in advance Jan -
[Software] LDD Manager
Jan replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As far as I can see via the help pages in bricklink, the only way to have an inventory is to become a seller. That way bricklink lets you have your inventory. Thing is I don't wanna sell at all! So maybe I can have a "closed" shop, but thats somewhat against the idea of the bricklink site i guess. Maybe you can shine your light on this if you have the time. Jan -
[Software] LDD Manager
Jan replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Superkalle Just a question which I think is best in place in this topic. With the help of your tool it's possible to get an inventory of the used parts in a ldd model, When I would make a complete inventory of all owned lego sets at Peeron (via brickset?) I would have a list of all parts owned. Would it be possible to compare the two lists so I would be able to see which parts used in the LDD model are , or better, are not part of my collection yet? Hope you understand. Jan
