LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Solitary Dark replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm afraid this set confirms to me I wont be completing a full set. What I like : Characters that expand my ability to build in different themes. What I dont like : Characters that look like they were assembled from over-manufactured pieces as line fillers. I have a squidman from Space Police - I dont need another one in a different colour. I love the Samurai and the Elf, but wont be looking to build armies. My son wants a Mummy. The one I will try for more than 1 of though is the Pilot. Real Character. The Series 4 speculation list sounds too much like wish fulfillment in some ways, and very possible in others, but I dont believe for one minute a Soldier is ever going to get in the line unless its a fantasy situation soldier. That policy is set. However some of them are very good ideas and I'd certainly like to see them. (The Mountain Climber particularly!) -
If there is something that can effectively compete with my Lego time its Doctor Who. (Fortunately that's what the trip to work and the Ipod were designed for) I've long wanted to merge the two, as have many others, and I cannot compete with the marvellous style of Doctor Sinister or Mark Stafford, so I've decided to go a different way. Most of my stuff ends up getting played with by an enthusiastic 7 year old, just getting into Who, so it was time to build a tardis. I've built a number of physical prototypes, but have now designed the final plan version in LDD, but thought I'd post here and see what y'all think before I commit to Bricklink orders! This is not based on any specific era - I'm non-commital to any specific Doctor, so I've kept the style generic. Love to hear your thoughts.

You do have to admit they do look like Prawns. Fab. Well done.

Cars 2 (movie) is due next year - probably explains the volume of sets and that it moves from Duplo into racers territory. Theme of the Movie is World Grand Prix - Five races around the world with Lightning racing against a number of other cars, one of which is an English Spy called Finn McMissile. Mater is now the Crew Chief.

Yeah ! Its slightly too tall for the length but thats driven by the Batman minifig's ears rather than the engine - I couuld have made it a couple of plates shorter, but couldnt get Batman in !
-
Some very nice batmobiles posted recently - here's mine. It seats two minifigs and is powered by a racers pullback motor - see here - Flickr Video Spends lots of time crashing and being rebuilt - (As always built for my son!)
-
That's very cool - Belongs in a diorama. You could make a very nice Coruscant scene using the shuttle. Well done!
-
That's a really funny entry Oky - A shame you didnt get it in on time - you would have done well. The cheese slopes for roof tiles are ingenious - I can't recall seeing that before.
-
I had an absolute blast making both my entries (my 7 and 5 year old helped with the category B entry) and I saw something in every entry that was interesting and fun. I cannot wait for January and a new twist pehaps for a second category for the new series - any ideas?

Wow - a whole bunch of fantastic entries and I honestly found it incredibly difficult to pick just 3 to give points to. The 3 I picked though all had something I wished I'd thought of, so that's why I chose them. In no particular order... 19 Skater & Spartan by Etzl - I thought there would be more entries with the Spartan, and particularly using the alternative meaning of the word, but this was great - and choosing white over tan just cemented the joke for me. Brilliant. 12 Diver and Surfer by Squiz - The Duplo Shark - Fantastic - and the Diver's pose was excellent. 3 Spacemen and Pharoah by Optimus - A lovely spacecraft AND and fab Crypt with lots of details - an obvious pairing? Maybe, but done very well. Brilliant entries from many many others and I got to build something I'd wanted to build for years - Thanks Whitefang! -

Lots of fun entries here but i'm voting for: 15 Traffic Cop - by Profound Whatever - It's the black and white with just a hint of pink that does it for me here - Donuts - Really captures the Character of the minifigure. 34 Witch - Athos - Mainly because it looks like it could be made of candy - Lovely. 7 Karate master - Noname - Simple - But I liked it more than every other entry. Great contest - already thinking up ideas for series 3! -
Theme City Minifigure Series 1 : Cheerleader Minifigure Series 2 : Surfer "Crystal is the star Cheerleader for the Brickville Football Team. The team has come to Beachville for the annual Cheerleading competition. But deepdown she isnt happy. She is lonely. The atmosphere on the team is so cutthroat, she just has to get away, so she has come left her room and come down to the Boardwalk for some fresh air. Here she starts to daydream about her dreamguy. And he looks just like Jason the Surfer." There are a couple more images in my Flickr SetMinifigure Entry Flickr Set The location is inspired by the Boardwalk resort in Disney World - A great excuse to use all my Primary colours in a City setting. I had fun making this, and spent quite a bit of time deciding which characters to choose. In fact I'm not sure Crystal dream man may not turn out to be Wayne the Weightlifter!

MOC: The Penguin's Winter Feast.
Solitary Dark replied to The Penguin's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
So many wonderful details. The red roof. The dark red curtains. Th dripping icicles. The cheese wedge snow. This looks like you could use it with any number of different minifigure themes - At first I thought it could work with Samurai/ Ninja minifigures, then saw you'd used many types of Historical castle. Wonderful. Thanks for sharing. -
Minifigure : Surfer Theme : City Here is a surf shack, inspired by many of the shacks i've seen on beaches around the U.K. The Surfer minifigure gets down here every opportunity he can, but the local wildlife keeps an eye on the place whilst he isnt around. He works in an office during the week so this is his favourite place in the world!

This chap featured in another post and was inspired by RATCHET as he will appear in Transformers 3. and the inspiration A couple of commentors said nice things about this fellow so I thought he deserved his own topic.
-
No, He's been on Flickr for a while, but I never got round to introducing him in his own topic here. I'd wanted to build Ratchet for a while and when I saw shots from the new movie with a new colour scheme - the Dark grey Hood is intentional - I couldnt resist and knocked him out over a weekend.
-
This is my latest addition to my 8-wide city vehics - the Black and Purple Pickup, driven by the Surfer. The hood is purple because I dont have that wedge in Black, but I quite like it. Here it is pictured alongside my existing vehicles - The Weight Lifter is driving the green car. I have the parts for another couple of cars - probably one in yellow, one in white. All use the same seat + door layout. You can see more Images of the other cars in my Flickr gallery (Link in the signature)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Solitary Dark replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've just returned from a last minute back-to-school shopping trip to Kingston on thames in greater London U.K. Bentalls (Big Department store) had a case of series 2 out at a checkout and literally hundreds on pegs behind the till. (And giveaway catalogues featuring the full autumn product range also) WH Smiths had at least 6 cases on display in the main store, not behind the counter. No limits, easy to check barcodes - I could have easy scored 50 Spartans. (I didnt - I'm on a budget and just picked up 2 surfers, 1 for a friend.) Argos had series 1 still on sale at the till's. I never saw more than 1 case of series 1 anywhere previously - I suspect the supply issues are a thing of the past. -
That's fantastic - all the details! - I bet as a set it would be about £200!
-
A very inspiring design, The blue tiles changing close to the rocks looks particularly impressive.
-
Lovely. My son is 7 and also has a habit of taking sets and them having accidents, so I built my castle for him in small modular sections that can be re-arranged quite easily, but this is a fantastic castle - lots of space for armies to congregate in. Well done.
-
Fantastic photography. Using such a small number of colours gives this a very fresh look. Now you need a Minifig series 2 Lifeguard to keep everyone safe!
-
Wow - I've just caught up but what a wonderful evolution of a project. We dont have Target in the U.K, and having been in many over the years in the U.S its highly recognisable. Is this to go in a City display - It needs a car park, street and customers ETC - it deserves them! Well done.

I build all of my cars in 8-wide. - The purple one was a first experiment in 6-wide and I think it looks a little thin. I build my trucks in either 8 or 10 wide to give them an appropriate scale. Fires-storm - you're right of course, its all so you can fit 2 minifigs next to each other in the car. My son's asked for an Indy 50's era Car, so i'll be trying that next.
