I started to build a Minifigure contest entry but got a bit carried away! Once I'd started I wanted to continue building the boat - It's influenced by the Orca from 'Jaws'. I had a heck of a time keeping the snot bow together but my kids are now playing with it and all their series 3 minifigures right now, so it was worth it!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Solitary Dark replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This wave feels a little bit like series 3 to me - some nice new chracters, but also a lot of fillers just in there to re-use the pieces already designed. I really like the Godzilla suit, and my Daughter wants the pink girl, even though that one looks like totally recycled! Not jumping out like wave 4 did. -
It's been incredible to follow the progress of this - I'm curious, have you considered adding any Lifelites to any of your shuttles? - that would really add another dimension to them. They look amazing already, but it would just push them to another level.

What a beauty, I feel like I'm standing in line at WDW. Well done...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion

Walked into Argos today in Woking (Lion Retail Park, not town centre) and found four open boxes just sitting on the counters untouched. There was a mix of packets with dots and others that had nothing that I could find at all. Found a Fisherman and an elf through touch, actually much easier than the dots, and some characters were actually obvious from the dots (The box I went through had at least 5 tennis players in) Didnt find a single Samurai or Snowboarder, but only had time to go through one box. Son got a mummy though so he was happy! -
Oh that's fantastic (And thanks to Kieldaman for helping you share that photo) Love the colours on the roof. Loving the right angle shape also. Very interesting to look at. The use of wedges to texture the windows. Great. The facing down eagles are also a nice touch. You must have a serious volume of cheese wedges!

REVIEW: 8803 LEGO Minifigures Series 3
Solitary Dark replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Fantastic review, I think this series just has a few too many ordinary figures in it. Having seen series 4 also I'm inclined to save my budget for that, although I will try and pick up a few of these - but probably the same ones everyone else will be after. -
Go back to the last book and the there is a chapter called 'The Forest Again' - *****SPOILER WARNING****** The main action that takes place is Harry rubs the resurrection stone and brings back ghost versions of his parents, Remus and Sirius. He then walks with them to confront Voldemort for the final time. That could be the basis for a set, but it would just be a bunch of figures, with some tres!

This is the first theme for ages that I genuinely might pick up a few sets and keep them intact for - I'm more interested in the Aliens - they look very cool, and the new space helmet goes a long way for me. I'll probably just pick up a few of the smaller sets for minifigs mainly, but this does have some fun MOC potential. I just hope this theme gets into regular stores in the U.K - I never saw a SPIII set anywhere other than a Lego store, if I did I would have picked more up. I've never seen a World Racers set in the U.K.

Things that changed Lego forever
Solitary Dark replied to David Thomsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For me the most significant event was the near collapse and restructure of the company in the early Noughties. I remember really loosing interest around that time because none of the sets appealed, everything seemed to be made of large, bulky parts with almost no re-usable value, and the themes were just un-inspiring. (Knights Kingdom jumps to mind!) Only Harry Potter and star Wars seemed to get any attention - Look at the trains then - Horrid! My understanding is that the restructure led to a massive reduction in the brick palette, and the designers had their budgets controlled and curtailed. And it drove creativity,(My opinion), both in terms of the product design and the MOC community. I bought nothing but a few small star wars sets (for minifigures) until 2005, when my wife gave me a Clone Turbo Tank for my Birthday, simply because everything looked awful! Now look at sets like Cafe Corner - Mostly standard brick palette parts and colours, being used in an incredible creative way. How would that set have looked 5 years earlier - I'd argue it never had a chance of being produced before the collapse, and it paved the way for Market Village, Emerald Knight, Grand Emporium, Diagon Alley, all of which were designed and are being bought for a different market that now exists. -

I checked the Brickshelf image and it was showing the file , but the image was failing to load - It seems to be doing the same here. The Image is in my Flickr account - link in my signature. Brickshelf (when moderated) below My link -
One of the most amazing episodes of the Tennant era was 'The Waters of Mars'. Here the Doctor arrives on the red planet, unaware of the significance of the date to the future of the Humanity, in his orange suit acquired in series 2. No Robot dog in this one though, but it did have a funny robot called Gadget!

Oh you are absolutely right, it is too tall. Ideally the windows used would only be around 5 plates tall, and to be accurate you would need 4 of them (This tardis only has 3 panels compared to the 4 the real tardis has) The Doctors eyeline should be just above the actual windows, based on reference photos. Dont worry K-9 is coming......

Just a very quick scene featuring my Tardis, the Doctor, Amy and two Not-Cybermen. I plan on building a series of such scenes - this one was very simple and only took half and hour or so this morning. Next - A martian Landscape!

It's extremely unlikely simply because for any franchise such as this the target is to have product in stores around six weeks before the movie comes out. This is because 70% of the sales will actually be made before the movie comes out (Remember back in 99 with Phantom menace - The Movie came out May 25th, but the Lego was out back end of Easter - That's why.) There is plenty of Tron merchandise out there already, and we've not seen a sniff of any Lego, yet we already know about Pirates of the Caribean and that's not out til next may. Sorry guys it aint gonna happen. But I'd have a lightcycle, and Quorra's car.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 poll
Solitary Dark replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think Hazmat guy is going to be really useful, and will probably be the first figure I go for multiples of in the whole 4 series so far. I think its that new helmet and the size of the visor, and the fact that the whole face is visible - huge customisation possibilities there. Or it could just be the orange (I'd have liked him to be yellow actually!) -

These are great. Both my kids can get into these, especially my daughter who hasnt really shown any lego interest before. Now she has a Cheerleader, lifeguard and Popstar, and will definitely want the surfer girl and Ice skater!. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

Wow. I was disapointed with series 3, but 4 makes up for it. The Female surfer is actually I think my favourite, simply because I have a boy and girl to think of as well as my own collection, and series 3 did nothing for my Daughter. She is going to love the pink and black wetsuit and the new hair-do. I think hazmat guy is going to be the most desirable of the series though - that orange visor is brilliant, and perfect for any number of dio's and themes. Mind you I dont have my Samurai yet, but i'm looking forward to April already.
