I've been building lots of cars recently, and last night and this morning had a play in LDD. Neither of these took longer than 15 minutes, but they were quite satisfying nonetheless. I made this one in base red then let my son do the colouring! I am going to build this with bricks for him. But I dont think all these pieces are available in purple.

That's very classy - the cheese wedges and tiles on the battlements are a very nice feature - The contract of smooth castle and jagged rocks gives this a very nice character. Did you build an interior? (Presumably its a staircase?)

Fantastic - That's exactly what the Robot was designed for.

I have the comic book this was based on! Really nice model - could be a set easily. Well done.

Lovely - Makes we wonder if we will get 'John Carter of Mars' sets in 2012! (Disney's biig summer movie for 2012!)

I built the head ages ago, and finally this week finished his body. I tried not to make a realistic looking Dinosaur, rather a creature with a mechanical look to it. The hardest part was making legs that were strong enough to hold the head up, and the legs look too large when compared to the body as a result. However making the body bigger proved to be too heavy. With the body he has he is actually quite poseable. A friend suggested the car shot, and I quite like it.

I'm trying to build in as many themes as possible at the moment. When I found my Classic Space printed parts in boxes of bricks from my parents I decided to build a ship for my new Collectible Minifig Spaceman. This started out as a version of the classic 918, but I've tried to use as many modern techniques as I could with a classic space feel. Annoyingly there are 5 parts not in blue or light grey!

Wow, that is an absolute beauty - really has a sense of hollywood style. Fantastic

Re the debate on 3 of four minifigs in a battle pack. I'm a parent and spend a huge amount of time with my 7 year old going round The Big Shop in legoland Windsor. Year before last I saw so many parents put the rebel speeder and Imperial dropship back on the shelf saying - 'It's a waste of money - you only get one character' This year Hoth battlepacks have been nearly constantly sold out and again I've seen lots of parents comment on how much better value the sets seem because they come with a variety of characters. Take a look at this years BP's - do they come with 4 minifigs or 3 different minifigs, with a multiple of one character? Maybe next years follow the same pattern ? 3 characters, one of which is repeated - would certainly work for the Clone pack - not so sure about the Mandalorian, but a variety of figures certainly makes the set much more appealing to parents spending Pocket money or a small gift. Personally I give BP's as presents to any Kids parties we go to, and my son has received plenty as presents from friends - they all know he loves lego and cant go wrong with a set like this, plus the price point is esigned for this. That's what these things are made for....

Review: Ladybird Atlantis Books w/minifigs
Solitary Dark replied to greg3's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I came home from work yesterday to find my son had bought both of these with his pocketmoney. The figures have the soft chinese plastic feel to them, not a surprise really. The books themselves are actually fantastic as they give a ton of play ideas for the theme, as well as a number of activities. They could do with some alternative build ideas though. -
Whole family went to Legoland Windsor Today and they had in stock the following: Cad Bane's speeder £44.99 Plo Kloon's Starfighter £24.99 Wampa Cave £34.99 Midi Scale Imperial Star Destroyer £29.99 I'd not seen Cad's speeder of the ISD elsewhere. This was in the Brick Brothers store in the City area.

Some really fantastic entries here - but these are the three that just jumped out at me. Designer: Bojan Pavsic EntryID: 146 Name: Circus Arena Designer: Jan EntryID: 131 Name: Apartment Building Designer: Captain Blockbeard EntryID: 108 Name: Golden Gander SteamPunk Airship 1 point to each - I wanted to build these three... -
I thought there were some fantastic entries but there was one for me that when I first saw it just floored me. That wasn’t a laser blast. Something hit us. by marshal banana Fantastic colour scheme. The Mini Falcon inspired me to build my own. The Tie's have great movement. The shape of the base conforms to the copetition but breaks from the norm. The green laser blasts. The sense of movement in the photography. But most of all because once i'd seen that entry I had to stop what I was building because I knew I couldnt compete with it. (So I tried something else, but never managed to complete it) Well done to Marshall Banana - please keep making these dioramas - they are fantastic...

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Solitary Dark replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
For anyone in the UK, series 1 is now reduced to £1.49 in Argos. My local store had 87 in stock, some out on display. Sorry if someone has already posted this. -
Again I never had one of these as a kid - now my son is into Castle I'm trying to build some nice pieces for him to play with. It has opening doors, a hatch at the back, seats 4 minifigs inside and has a seat on the rear for a guard, and a place for the driver to sit on top.

Most of my bricks come from the 84-86 Castle range. My favourite set from that time was the Guarded Inn, and it has pretty much survived intact. (Some part substitutions have had to happen) Now my 7 year old is getting into castle, so I thought I'd build some more pieces which fitted with the style of the Guarded Inn. I dont have space to build a big castle and thought that building wall sections would give my lad the ability to make the castle he wanted on the day. I'll be be building more today. My son's castle collection is only minifigs, so these modules will be getting played with! Well be spending today adding some more modules...

I'm certain that Pirates will return, but as a 'Pirates of the Caribean: On Stranger Tides' theme next year along with the new film. Prince of Persia will only last this season based on the film's performance. Disney will be looking to explode POTC again next year, and I believe Pirates was retired to make sure that there werent 2 conflicting pirates themes out at the same time. Both my Kids (5 + 7) started Pirates this year, with the Brickmaster Book, and are disapointed that there arent going to be more sets. You can get a set of minifigures from Legoland Windsor though that is perfect for army building and as an earlier post stated you can make pirates sets from just about anything. You can only pick up a couple of sets there though.

MOC: Forestmen's Crossing - version 2010
Solitary Dark replied to Jonas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's a very cool set, and certainly one I would buy if I had the chance. I was a huge castle fan as a kid, but Forestmen were during my dark ages. The first of the minifigure collection I wanted was Robin Hood and I found him first go! The river bank looks fantastic with the curves. Very Playable (my 7 year old wants one - I feel a bricklink order coming on...) -
My son just saw this and asked for one! He's assumed its a new battlepack. Nice walker, simple and it certainly looks like it holds up well to actually being played with (Which is the point of this stuff after all.) Love it...

Yoda confronts the new Emperor Epic Scenes medium
Solitary Dark replied to Solitary Dark's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Sadly I never got chance to reconstruct, so I'll just have to go as is. Cat has not approached my lego since - may have scared it! -
The Outrider is a Corellian YT-2400 Frieghter, that has been heavily modified. The design team that came up with the design deliberately intended it to be reminiscient of the Falcon. You can see the Wookiepedia Entry here: My link Take a look here at the fantastic Kenner version of the ship My link

When I was at Uni in 96 my interest in Star Wars was re-invigorated by the launch of the Shadows of the Empire series. I read the book, the Comic's, have all the Kenner toy range and the 'Making of' book, but never managed to get the N64 game. The end of each media source featured a space battle over Coruscant with an attack of the falleen's fist, A skyhook, owner by reptillian crimelord Prince Xizor. Dash in his Outrider, with Lando Chewy and Leia in the Falcon pursued Xizor in his ship the Virago to the skyhook. The Skyhook was destroyed by Darth Vader in the Executor. The Outrider is still my favourite ship design in the Star Wars universe and its a crime there isnt a good lego version available - maybe next year for the 15th Anniversary please??? In the game you play as the Outrider, and the scene is described in the book, and seen in the comic, but the battle could have been fantastic on the big screen. So here's my version: One of the few visual reference sources: Fits on a 48x48 baseplate - one of the arms appears to overhang on the image, but it doesnt... Some more views... I really enjoyed building the individual ships, but the base became a bit of a rush! (following a cat attack on my medium entry and tonight is the last Doctor who - Competition for building time!) Individual photos of the ships are on my Flickr page My Flickr page

Yoda confronts the new Emperor Epic Scenes medium
Solitary Dark replied to Solitary Dark's topic in Watto's Junkyard
Sadly I came downstairs this morning to find this in pieces on the floor (with a guilty looking cat sitting in the space on the shelf where it used to be!) I may try something else instead of putting this back together.
