Done up to 74b issues: 1: You skipped this one: Catamaran http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2127552 was there some reason?, like to modern? 2: Links to Non-English language ship type reference info, how should we handle this? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_...guage_templates Says not to use flags any longer, OK. It says to use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_code leads to here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IETF_language_tag This site: http://www.langtag.net/ and this tool: http://people.w3.org/rishida/utils/subtags/ I could add some thing like: Links to language specific ship type reference info: en English nl Dutch, Flemish and add more as people find them. What do you'all think? 3. If I have missed any LEGO set I should not have please let me know. 4: Please if any of my links don't work let me know. 5: If you think I have miss-typed a ship, please reply here and tell me what I didn't see, best if you can add a link to a picture that shows that point. kurt

Musing on what I saw/learned sorting the ship MOCs
RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
I linked the new LEGO set 7048 Troll Warship in to the sorted-by type MOCs index yesterday. It has ONE of those 53452 Viking bow/stern parts in it, so my mind was thinking (unbeknownst to me!) on this fact, so today this question floats up in my mine: "How many hull center sections (part 2560) are in the 7048 Troll Warship? Of coarse peeron.com doesn't (at the time I am writing this) have a parts list up, yet. A quick search of google web and images didn't help, but a search on brickself for 7048 yielded this: so the answer is four! added to the two 2560s in the new 6243 Brickbeard’s Bounty. Where I was saying use one of the new 6243 bow/stern lower hull parts (for the bow), these two sets give you all the hull parts you would need, except you would need to make the prow/ram (and it's probable SNOT work) a little longer. I hope I have infected someone with a huge stash of oars and and the desire to model 100+ greek rowers. enjoy kurt -
Here is my gift to you, on this appropriate day (12/25/08 info for later), the patient reader of this thread all the way down to here! Have you ever had the problem, that when you went to attach your boom (for your mainsail or spanker) to the mast middle part (2537) , the lower attachment point was to close to the deck and the upper one was to high above it? Well I have, and as I said in the intro post: and I solved that problem. part list: mast middle 2537 antenna 3957 cone 1 x 1 4589 plate 1 x 2 with 2 or 3 finger hinge 4276 or 4275 space robot arm 4735 bar 6.6L with stop 4095 This goes on the side of the mast with the hollow, which on my ships is towards the stern. Put the antenna in first and slide it through the hole and extra 1/2 inch or so, and snug it back down at the end. Note that the hinge plate will not be straight (no room) but that's OK because you don't want your booms to be straight, lay them off to the port or starboard it will give your model more life! And if someone asks you what that is suppose to be. You say (with a straight face!) "Why, from top it's the boom halyard rail, the pivoting boom gooseneck, cunningham downhaul, boom shock-kicker, and ending at the bottom with the attachment point for the boom vang pulley block, of course!". I guaranty that will shut them up!! Oh, and you can attach the boom vang rigging at the bottom if you want! You can see this trick in these photos, look at the end of the boom: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3591969 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3592049 all the best this day! kurt

Here it's yee-haw! I am very glad that there is one steamship fan out there! I really like the sailing side-paddle-wheel steamships, they are neat, even though they only lasted for short time before propeller driven steamships "literally" overtook them!! I think size looks good too, but the size was set by the scale (read posts above). Thanks. Do you know what steamship that is, or was suppose to be?

Musing on what I saw/learned sorting the ship MOCs
RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
A quick look in sorted-by galley, and yes it is in the indexes as 40d, and yes it is galley, it is not a trireme, as I wrote: "And remember trireme derives its name from its three rows of oars on each side, manned with one man (err minifig) per oar." A quick look in sorted-by catamaran and yes both are there as 44d and 46a, and they not really what I was trying to show, maybe 1/5th the size of model I was describing. http://flickr.com/photos/25936096@N02/2453248975/ right? have you seen any of these? http://empireofsteam.blogspot.com/2008/09/...enterprise.html http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=int&q=...e%27&m=text http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/33341 http://www.flickr.com/photos/91462077@N00/2275726505 http://www.flickr.com/photos/40358144@N00/14643874 http://lugbrasil.com/forum/index.php?topic=287.0 http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/39724 Sorry I'll stop! -

Musing on what I saw/learned sorting the ship MOCs
RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well I finished adding the LEGO sailing ship set sorted by type check it out! Continuing on with the number of ship MOC ideas that I would like to see, but there is no chance that I will get to them in the near future. I guess I am moving forward through time... 2: A polynesian catamaran I like this model: check out this useful web page http://www.eraoftheclipperships.com/shipmodelpage3.html This would be the ultimate islander MOCs, so you BIG islander fans... The hulls are the problem here, they may want to be four to ten studs wide, maybe use those 2622, 2626 boat bases. Or maybe build the hulls studs down, the way the lego trains people build their steam locomotives, look at parts 6005, 6183, 6091, 6215, and esp. 6081. You can use technic axles to tie the hulls together and with Technic Angle Connectors to make the curved masts. Like at http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32016 and you can see it comes in a few good color choices. The key thing here will be to keep everything thin and lite in your model! -

RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
A number of ship MOC ideas that I would like to see, but there is no chance that I will get to them in the near future. This will be a number of posts!! 1: A Greek Trireme Models exist, I like this one at this web site there is a plan check out http://images.google.com/images?q=trireme and Olympias is a reconstruction of an ancient Athenian trireme tons of pictures of it too at http://ay-avebury.soton.ac.uk/Prospectus/C...Ship/trimen.htm You see we have a length of 121 feet and a beam of just 18 feet, you can lego model it with 18 feet = 16 studs or 1.125 feet per stud, really close to "minifig scale"! So you want 121/1.125 or about 107-108 studs long. Using one of the new 6243 bow/stern lower hull parts (for the bow), it looks like it's 12 long, so 108 - 12 = 96 studs. Use one 53452 Viking bow/stern parts (for the stern) it's 20 long, 96 - 20 = 76 studs. Then say seven center sections of 2560 7 x 8 = 56 studs, so 76 - 56 = 20 studs to form a prow/ram probably with SNOT work. Now the harder part you will need to use technic parts to make the open and airy rowing interior and pin it together so that it will be sound, and you had better have a "thing" for minifigs because the way this model will be a jaw dropper is the have all the rowers in there!! And remember trireme derives its name from its three rows of oars on each side, manned with one man (err minifig) per oar. At the time of the ancient Greeks they would not have been wearing the clothes you see in this picture! Do you see this Lego MOC in your mind's eye? enjoy - I'll try to post another idea write-up tomorrow... kurt -
I am updated to 67D Current issues 1: 67c is linked it to the brickshelf gallery not to http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7483. 2: The list of MOCs that should go in are here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...rt=#entry413011 3. I will start adding the the Lego sets by type. Now Done: If I have missed any LEGO set I should not have let me know. 4: For anyone, If you think I have miss-typed a ship, please reply here and tell me what I didn't see, best if you can add a link to a picture that shows that point.

Other ship MOCs I know of out on the web. Anyone if you know that there is a eurobricks forum thread for any of these... Musing on what I saw/learned sorting the ship MOCs
RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
I am glad you like, I too think that it will be a good resource. Your ship was indexed on to both MOC indexes sorted and un-sorted as 67d about five and one half hours before post your post here, in anticipation of your need, now that's service! -

RTN LNA replied to RTN LNA's topic in LEGO Pirates
I am glad you enjoyed my musings. His is very good and nicely innovative too! Lucky you on your 3rd rate, is this the "7 center sections" ship you mentioned? My RTS Legomalee has seven center sections as well but she's only a 36-gun Frigate. The prototype HMS Trincomalee was/is fifth-rate ship (a heavy fifth-rate). -

You deserve the compliments you have amassed an excellent body of work. The link was to question that Matt asked: I don't see where you answered it, and it is the second to the last post in that thread "The Telesell, Mr. Tiber's Xebec!" here. begin edit ----- Now I see that you just have! ----- end edit all the best kurt -
I was glad to be able to announce my newest MOC RTS Zavala (RTS is Republic of Texas Ship, and RTN is Republic of Texas Navy) here on the eurobricks pirate forum. The forum here really is the only active world-wide lego pirates forum (lugnet.pirates is now pretty inactive). So anyway I was "loggin" fairly often to see what people were replying about my new ship and got to looking at the much expanded ship MOCs index, Kudos everyone! I know I should be (if I am going to work on Lego stuff) getting the camera and filming the RTS Zavala's engines running, or comparing the CAD parts list of the new MOC, that I have done the large scale design on (I do fine scale in-hand not with CAD) to my parts' bins so that I can do up some big bricklink orders (too many parts of a color I don't have that much of) but as I said I was looking at the expanded ship MOCs index. And you know I found some pretty cool ships in there! OK, so it has been a while for me since I last looked. In any event I was looking at the ships' threads and their brickshelf galleries, hopping up and down the index and getting annoyed that it wasn't in any sort of order. So first I whipped up this post (note the time stamp of Dec 20 2008, 02:26 AM), and then I waited for the sorted index to happen... HOURS LATER it wasn't done, so I created a spread sheet with 1A, 1B, ... 65C (you can make it do that) on each row, and then for each row I looked at that ship MOC and type named it, I then sorted the spread sheet by type names and then created a thread with the overview post which holds the type links (note the time stamp of Dec 21 2008, 12:58 AM). No one said I was a very patient man! start edit ---- There are number of cool things talked about in the posts of this thread so at least look over them all! ---- end edit Some of the ship MOCs that interested me: I see a number of newer ships have sheer! Yay!! First credit where credit is do, Stephen Rowe was the first person I know of who set out to put sheer into a lego MOC ship hull. 1C Stephen's announcement was posted on lugnet here. And as old as it, it's still a nice looking ship. I think I also had something to do with early work with putting sheer into a lego ship MOC. 23d is the first widened ship hull with sheer. I find a lot to praise in these two brigs: 38A 67A I also greatly enjoyed these fully rigged ships: 46B 53D 61B 66D 40A I also liked this (now as real bricks) xebec galley very much (it needs sheer), and I should also link it under galleys: 21A But the matched set that blew me away was this pair!!: 63C 45C Seeing how many times his name turned up, I think I am a fan of Captain Green Hair MOCs!! The cute square-rigged sloop Seagull (No it's not a cutter!) and the beautiful Xebec Telesell. Why do I call them a match pair? even though he didn't answer this post. all for now, next other ship MOCs I know of out on the web. kurt

thanks. I added an "Unknown Type" section. You meant 67C (I added 67D as well), BUT you linked it to the brickshelf gallery not to this thread. I will do so. Hopefully everyone will find-out something "new" in the "sorted-by-type" index. I think I'll post new ship links first, then add the Lego sets by type. kurt
-
I am glad you enjoyed it! If you have time can you help on any of the issues thanks again kurt
-
Done. Done. I may need to add a Polacca post for 65C... Also maybe I should add in the links to the Non-MOC lego sets in their correct ship type? thanks for the feedback. kurt
-
Done up to 67B You might add a link to this sorted-by thread in the pined Indexes post like: Index: Ship MOCs sorted by ship type The most "sordid" pirate index ever!!! issues 1: I am having a problem typing the following ships I can't find a picture of them rigged 31B 36A 49A 57C 57D 62B 63D 64D 65A 2: The RTS Legitor is not indexed Kurt's ship MOCs I want to add it to monitors. 3: I know of other interesting ships out there in the web, what's the procedure? 4: Please if any of my links don't work let me know. 5: If you think I have miss-typed a ship, please reply here and tell me what I didn't see, best if you can add a link to a picture that shows that point. enjoy kurt
-
It may help to look at the Xebecs here. I think you could do it using the standard hull parts.
-
I am glad enjoyed it. Maybe you haven't seen some of my other ships: Kurt's ship MOCs
-
Thanks! I created a spread sheet with 1A, 1B, ... 65C named them then sorted the spread sheet, now I am making each type a separate post and linking the both the name and image in the first overview post to it. Is there a way to make a reply and make it make a new post? not just add it to the last post you posted. I found some broken links, starting 42B, 47C, 47D, 48A, 48B, etc. isn't 16A and 23A the same ship? kurt

Index of Ship MOCs What is this index for? The Ship MOCs by Type Index is for all the completed ships in the Pirates MOCs forum. Want to see a certain type of ship? This is the place for you! These other ship Indices are no longer maintained, but still can be viewed. Old Index: Ship MOCs - The ultimate overview of all the historical Lego ships ever built! ...Well, until we stopped maintaining that index. The best LEGO sailing ships (minifig illusion scale) - The best ships from the Ship MOCs Index! How is this indexed? The Ship MOCs by Type Index is sorted by rigging type. You can view your options directly below this introduction. Most pictures are linked to the Eurobricks discussion topic, but some of the earlier ones aren't. If any of these links take to you to the Brickshelf gallery, let us know in the discussion topic. Anyway you can help? You can help by giving suggestions and informing us about items that have not been indexed. You can ask questions, give suggestions, and inform us about items that have not been indexed in the discussion topic. To what extent is this updated? This index is updated on a regular basis. All of the LEGO ships in the Pirates MOCs forum should be in here, save for very new ones which are waiting for the staff to index them. ********************************************************* Continued in the next post.....

Might I be so bold as to suggest that the MOC ships index be sorted by ship type. here are sailing ship types. (note all of these thumbs are public domain) Sloop: a Bermuda or gaff rigged Cutter: like a sloop with two jibs (a staysail and a yankee) Yawl: like a sloop or catboat with a mizzen mast. Ketch. Catboat: a sailboat with a single mast and single sail, usually gaff-rigged. Schooner: a fore-and-aft rig having at least two masts. Topsail Schooner: a fore-and-aft rig having at least two masts, and with square topsail on the foremast. Brig (short for Brigantine): two masts, both square-rigged with a spanker on the mainmast. Hermaphrodite Brigantine: two masts, square-rigged on the foremast and fore-and-aft rigged on the mainmast. Barquentine: is a three masted vessel, square rigged on the foremast and fore-and-aft rigged on the main and mizzen masts. Barque: three masts or more, square rigged on all except the aftmost mast. "Fully Rigged Ship" or Frigate: three or more masts, square rigged on all. I would subdivide "Fully Rigged Ship" types by size/lenght Xebec, Bragana or felucca: a classic in the Mediterranean or Indian Ocean. Three lateen sails in a row. Junk: the standard Chinese design with Elliptical sails. I would add a class for Sailing Steamships and another one for ironclads and monitors minis and CADs??? This sorting I would find more useful than the current unsorted "pile". kurt
