  1. Very nice! I like your front bumper design, and you've managed to fit some really nice features in your moc. I love old VWs. One of my friends has a type 2 crew cab; as well as a 21 window bus, a turbo charged 8 second bug, and a rare split window oval dash bug. I prefer the look of the single cab type 2 over the crew cab.
  2. If that price of the helicopter is anywhere near correct, I'm liking that set even more!
  3. Alasdair, your project is looking good! Nice and complex! Your planetary hub design is very compact. And, yes, the turntable is pointed in the correct direction for gear reduction (I just double-checked the planetary gears on my backhoe and forwarder). Nice work so far!
  4. It sounds like you are clicking the "last>>" button instead of the right arrow button to get to the next page.
  5. The helicopter doesn't have the ability to change pitch while the blades are rotating? First I've heard of that. That would be lame.
  6. Efferman, this is looking really good. I like the crane base that you built.
  7. Looking good! In your last picture, I like how the 8L axles slide in the worm gears when the plow is raised. Very nice job so far.
  8. Thanks for all the great help guys! One last question: What size plug do I need for the rechargeable battery? The transformer I found on amazon has a 2.1mm plug. Thanks, Daniel
  9. Dluders, can you check your transformer and see what the plug layout is? There should be a little diagram with a + and - that shows the polarity of the plug. I found this: http://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-Regulated-Camera-Supply-Adapter/dp/B000VRL632/ref=sr_1_44?ie=UTF8&qid=1329583172&sr=8-44 It's listed at DC 12V 500mA. It's not 480, so I'm not sure if that would work. I'll look around a bit more.
  10. Thanks guys! Thanks. I'm sorry my knowledge of electrical stuff is somewhat limited. Am I understanding correctly that I can use a DC 12V at 550mA transformer from my local electronics store to charge the battery?
  11. I love the functions! It's not often we see an airplane with all of the working control surfaces. Your sliding joystick to control the ailerons is clever.
  12. Looks fantastic! You have some nice functions in a small space.
  13. Hey all, I'm planning to buy the PF rechargeable battery for a project I'm working on. The 9V 9833 transformer is on sale, but can I use this to charge the 8878 rechargeable battery? The battery description says to use the newer 10V 8887 transformer, but if the cheaper 9V transformer will work, I'd like to save some money. Any suggestions? Thanks, Daniel
  14. This truck is looking really good! Very nice looking truck. I noticed a variation in the black color while working on my current project. Maybe the black color changed when the light and dark grey colors changed?
  15. Welcome to the forum! Your truck reminds me a bit of the 1940's era Dodge Power Wagon. I like your use of turntables on the rear axle. Nice hood ornament too.
  16. This sounds awesome! Those are some great prizes you all are giving away as well. I've got several ideas floating around in my head, but this is going to be a hard decision. Nonetheless, this competition would give me a good chance to take a break from my forwarder project.
  17. Yup, that's what I'd like to see for cyclic control, although it wouldn't tilt the entire rotor head. It would just change blade pitch.
  18. I'm not sure I understand how that works, but it would be very cool to see, especially in the propellor pitch application.
  19. I think the levers on the sides of the cockpit are used to control the collective. It looks like there may be a joystick in front of the seat too, and if this is the case, then it may be to control cyclic. This is the control layout of real helicopters, plus real ones have "rudder" pedals to control the pitch of the tail rotor. Seeing the lever on the side and inside the cockpit gives me renewed hope that we will have both collective and cyclic control. But, then again, maybe the lever in the cockpit is just for appearance purposes.
  20. LOL...well, I'd rather be a contestant than a judge, but from what I understand, judges can be contestants. Or, maybe I'm wrong?
  21. Siegfried, If you think I can be of service, I'd be interested in joining.
  22. I agree, and the same applies to North Carolina. Log trucks have the same size tire as any other truck. I haven't seen super singles on the front of log trucks around here, but they are popular on the front axles of dump trucks, larger straight trucks, heavy duty tow trucks, etc. A lot of tanker trucks use super singles on the rear instead of duals, and all of the newer front discharge cement trucks use super singles on the drive axles (front axle plus tandem rear axle).
  23. A large helicopter like this is a departure from LEGO's norm. The last few years, most of the sets offered by LEGO have been some sort of construction equipment or truck (with a few exceptions). LEGO hasn't built an airplane or helicopter to this scale in a very long time, and it has a great set of functions. The swashplate, mLAs used for the landing gear, the winch, the ramp....lots of good stuff! I like the fact that the helicopter doesn't have anything motorized. All this does is increase the price, and I have the parts necessary to motorize it already. This, to me, is the flagship model this year. I don't even think I will buy the Crawler. There really isn't anything that complicated about it, other than the new motors. There have already been several people to reverse engineer the Crawler based on the limited number of pictures available. That just tells me there isn't that much going on with the set. It looks nice, and I understand why people like it, but it's not my cup of tea. I don't expect the helicopter to fly, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I think most of us would consider 8258 a great set, but that wasn't even remote controlled. I see no difference. Just because the helicopter doesn't fly, doesn't make it a poor set. Just my humble opinion on that.
  24. I have never built anything like that myself, but I have seen people use one drive motor and a m motor for steering. You can use the differential part to accomplish this. Sorry, I don't have pictures.
