    New LEGO monobrand store

WHELP first time I regret not having a Facebook account. Already mailed my sister so she 'likes' it on my behalf. Anyone close enough to Plaza Escazu to go and check if any spot is being remodeled? Initially I thought that best spot would have been the new Mall in Moravia (Lincoln Plaza), but well there you go: all novelty shows up in Escazu first. These guys happen to get all the Lego lines Universal has all but ignored (including but not limited to LOTR and Monster Hunters), then they are my new gods. I don't care about the monetary backslash. Hopefully they are not associated with Universal at all.
  2. A hard question, I'd choose the whole vault. But seeing as I can't, I would choose 6041 Armor shop. Just because I love blacksmith sets and I could never get that one.

    Lego Quality Reference

Hello, I had two 2x1 hinges holding a third, much larger piece as if they were one single hinge. The sides of the hinge broke as shown in these pics: The pieces came originally with the Prehistoric creatures Creator set. Just two have broken, so I believe that the fact they were holding a bigger pieceon their own had some influence. Anyone else has hadthis problem with these peices?

[MOC] LOTR Argonath: King of the Western Shore

InCREdible. Immediately recognizable and simply sweet-looking. I say go to Cuusoo, let TLG steal your model so that we all can buy it EDIT: hoho you already did... adding my support

  7. Hello, I present you the first of my (hopefully) many MOCs: a hooded figure, possibly a reaper or spectre, riding a fell beast of sorts. The quote in the title is taken from The Return of the King. Some of you might recognize the figure from which I drew inspiration: the Hypnotic Spectre . Here are a couple details of the riding spectre and the beast's head: I will appreciate any and all criticism and comments. Bonus: for those of you with a 3DS, here are a couple 3D photos 3D pic 1 3D pic 2

Ya sabe, para Serie 6 no las traiga de bricklink, mejor nos ponemos de acuerdo y las buscamos en Universal (minifigs es lo poco que traen a precio)

MOCs : Floating Rocks and Airships

Love the mini-dirigible. The first flating rock is amazing, althought it is slightly too regular. I'd add some more pieces here and there to make it look more like it was a chunk taken from earthbound rocks, and thus not regular looking.

An anecdote of luck and elves

There is supposed to be a punch dot code in the exterior, but honestly it is much more effective and quick to just touch and feel. In the elf case, the bow or the shield are equally a dead-on indicator; no other figure in that series has anything even remotely similar (except arguably the fisherman, whose fishing rod can sometimes be confused with the bow, depending on the position). If you find a bow you're set with an elf. Most other figures have a piece that is easily distinguishable; in series 4 the geisha is very easy to spot (because of the slope that forms her dress) as is the Crazy scientist (because of the bottle). All you have to do is study the complete series before heading to the store, this way you should be able to determine what you are holding whenever you feel a bag.

    Latin American AFOLs!

Yeah, costs are high, although I don't blame them entirely. When I brought Dragon's prison escape and blacksmith's attack from S@H, I was hit with almost $50 bucks of importing taxes. Pretty much doubled the cost of the sets. Hear hear. Pero en español, me imagino.

    Latin American AFOLs!

Hello, Costarriqueño reporting in. Which of you are collectors and which of you armybuilders? I normally army-build but my dwarves never got as big as I could've wanted. I loathe Universal for not bringing Castle sets for 7 or more years straight. Dwarves' Mine came expensive, as did my Orcish Siege towers. So as Johnny I'd love for a Lego store to show up, but Universal is exclusive distributor and god knows how much money they pay to keep it like that. A franchised store cannot be cheap and thus not good business, unfortunately.
  14. The first Series 3 elf that I got was through Bricklink. I said to myself, "minifigures in Costa Rica? Nah, they'll never bring those" so I bought a single elf, opened it, protected it against all evil and admired it. It's definitely my favorite figure of all series so far. A Few months later, I find a single series 3 Snowboarder in the nearest store of the only Lego impoter of the country. I immediately asked if they planned on bringing more, and they said that the sales were so quick that they'd definitely bring more. A week later I managed to get around 5 more elves. I was thrilled beyond recongition, since I never even believed they would reach the country. A couple weeks later they brought Series 4, which I also bought the crap out of, and I could only see Series 3 in some stores that specialize in collectibles. All of them overpriced of course (althought, $5 for an elf still beats the bricklink price). By around last week, my grand elven army consisted of 13 elves (and a sealed one) that I was mighty proud of. Then last Thursday (Jan. 12) I went to the nearest store looking for Series 6, and lo and behold, orange boxes! Wait, green boxes too?? Me and my girlfriend immediately rummaged through a half-picked box and found no elves at all. An employee was sorting through a newly opened box, and let us know that the store (called Universal from now on) decided to bring back series 3 and 4 for the people that never got the chance to finish their collection. She also gave us 3 elves that she had already sorted. For $3 bucks each! Next Saturday (Jan.14, 2012) I planned a crusade to the main Universal store in the capital city. There was only one box and only one elf could be found. Really disappointing taking into consideration that during December this same store had at least 12 Series 5 boxes opened at the same time. I then took a bus to the Universal store in the west of the city (the one I had the least faith on) and this is what I found: (sorry for the blurryness of the pic, they don't really let you take pics on that store "for security reasons" so I had to do it quickly ) You're looking at 20 boxes of Series 3 minifigs, most of them unsearched. So, I felt and still feel kinda lucky. We looked at the security guy, and asked him if there was any problem with each of us grabbing a box and searching through them while sitting in those kids' lego playing tables. He said none at all. We literally searched until we were too tired (and finger-ached) to go on, my girlfriend going through at least 10 boxes, while I went through around 7 (she's pretty quick). Here's what we came home with: That's 39 elves, a snowboarder and a Sumo wrestler. I paid a few bucks below $140 for all of them. Not too bad for a supposedly out-of-production series. So my elven army is now 57 strong. I feel really good about it and just wanted to brag about my luck with you guys. Let me know what you think about it. I will update the post once the full army is unpacked and (heheh) assembled. tl;dr: that last pic? it's all elves at retail price. In 2012. Le hannon a tholel, garo arad vaer.

Hello, As described above, I have been lurking in the forums for a long, long time. I gotta thank eurobricks for finding out that my "big" castles were really amateur building and driving me into building better stuff. I've been in and out of Lego for pretty much all my life, big factors being that in Costa Rica 1)Lego don't come cheap (I mean, they are even MORE expensive than outside) and 2)only one company imports them and their selection is, unfortunately, very limited. My interests are improving my building techniques (and share my own if possible) and finding out about new Lego products. Last sets that I bought (besides some Minifigs series 5) were the 6918 Blacksmith Attack and the 7187 Escape from the Dragon’s Prison. My childhood dream set was 6090 Royal Knight's castle (when it came out in 1995) and I got it until Christmas 2009 So... fire away!
