Yeah, unfortunately they're one of the only places I ever order from where sales tax applies (in TX). I normally just wait 'til I'm in Austin for something else and go by the store there, if it's a promo or other Lego store exclusive. Otherwise not worth it. -
I like it. The front feels a little too "busy," maybe, but it's still a nice look. I don't really get it when I see "modulars" with windows on the side walls, though; they might look a little nicer when it's on its own but in an actual modular setup they'd just be looking right at a wall? I really love your interior detailing though, looks great and makes wonderful use of space.

I guess I missed that. Can't wait to see a final version of the $20 set and see what he looks like (plus what the nova corps officer looks like, for that matter).

Wait, what? I haven't seen anything to the effect of the smaller set having a different variant than the Milano.

Check Walmart, I've seen it at several of mine. Target's been slow getting any March stuff in. There hasn't even been any GotG news since the toy fair, other than the pdf catalog with a prelim of the $20 set (and the other two sets we'd seen more final versions of). Simmer down a little. Martian Manhunter's fig is news, it's on topic, and it's worth discussing.

That's a good idea for Red Skull's head, especially if you have a minifig sized green hulk to go with him. I actually liked this set a lot more than I expected to, the build look pretty bleh from the previews but it was reasonably fun, some kinda neat techniques in the suspension that we don't see much on these sorts of sets, plus cap looks great in standard blue. Still not crazy about the newer motorcycle molds (too big, compared to the classic ones) but it's hard to complain about Red Skull and Cap. Hydra goon is great too, of course, but it's always such a bummer to get a henchman in a set and only get one. Especially if they aren't in other sets.

Well, bricklink can call it what they want but it's nothing like a real samshir. And the mold is used interchangeably with katanas- new ninjago figs and Leo from the ninja turtles use the square guard ones. I'm fairly sure the smallest set is confirmed to have Star-Lord, a Sakaaran and a Nova Corps dude. 99% sure there's no Yondu. We don't really know how big a role he's going to have in the film, either way- my guess is that it's a smaller part than Korath, who we also didn't get. I'm partial to Batman Begins, but that one's definitely a good one too. I kinda think the penguin boat is Lego throwing us AFOLs a bone, since most kids won't have ever seen Penguin's duck boat. Evidently a number of AFOLs on here haven't either, though! They'd never give us a promo fig in a set later that same year. Most likely won't get him at all, at least not for a long time. If you want him, you'd better pick him up while you can.

Am I the only one who kind of wishes they attached more like a kama, over the leg posts, rather than at the neck? Might be harder to do, coloring wise, I guess. But attaching at the neck looks kind stupid to me.

I gotta say I don't see "dark red" looking at Rocket. Looks more yellow, or a similar yellow-orange to Wolverine. No idea, hopefully soon. If the build is good I might pick up two or three for additional sakaaran mooks and nova corps guys.

New katanas have square guards- they have for a little while now. It's not ideal, but it's not really any different than Yoda or that little house goblin or whatever it is from Harry Potter. Dobby? I forget, not at all familiar with that franchise, I just recall his figure form being "thicker" than pictures I'd seen of the movie character. Rocket looks pretty good regardless. Likewise with Groot's size, he varies a lot. It's a little bit of a bummer to not get his "standard" slightly-larger-than-human size, but I don't mind giant Groot. It's adapted from a film. I keep seeing people criticize the duck, but that's not really Lego's fault. Blame WB if you don't like the Penguin using a duck boat. I think it's a fun throwback.

I can't imagine he wouldn't, considering he's not a new mold like Gollum, but he's definitely gonna be shorter than the rest of the team.

Oh, I know. Total pipe dream. But it's honestly just about the best way for them to do GL and still include Batman, which they're obviously going to do.

Really nice work, captures the warmness of a campfire really well considering LEDs tend to have a cooler sort of lighting about them. Also unrelated to the writing, is it sad I never actually thought to put cherries in the tree leaves like that? It's so obvious, but it never occurred to me; granted, I have very few cherries in my collection to have given the consideration to. Just weird that such no-brainer ideas sometimes never pop into my head.

Promotional items are always done by total before shipping and handling (which I assume p&p is the equivalent of, considering the context I've seen it in). Combined with "xx.99" pricing it's pretty much structured to make you not spend -exactly- the right amount.

My two local Wal-Marts just got them in over the past few days. Target's still lagging behind but that's semi-normal in my area- one chain or another gets stuff and the other doesn't get it for a week or two after.

These promotions pretty much always require the exact amount or more, before shipping is figured in. Prolly gonna have to tag on the trike set (or anything else, really).

As PoP's daggers showing up in the Hobbit sets from time to time shows, you can always re-use weapon molds. Especially things like swords that show up in recurring themes like Castle or whathaveyou, provided it's not too futuristic. If it is, it can show up in things like Agents or future space themes. I can't tell well enough to say if I think Gamora's getting a new sword or not, just saying. New weapon molds are always reusable. Except the Lone Ranger guns, for some reason, that they seem to've abandoned. I don't really get that- was surprised when the westernish Movie sets came with old revolvers.

I dunno if you're into comics at all, but finding... sources (of questionable legality, admittedly) of the 2008 run of GotG isn't too hard. I don't actually know that you can purchase them anymore, but they're worth a read. It wasn't a terribly long run, but it's a lot of fun! Some of the characters aren't in the film, though, from the looks of things. Still worth a read if you're into comics, IMO. It's a favorite of mine, so needless to say I'm psyched about the whole movie and Lego adaptation going on.

The press release with the Milano reveal said June 1st. Might see them in May.

Here's hoping. Would love to see the $20 set. Plus a better look at Groot and Rocket would not go amiss, either! I don't mind the classic front-only printing, but the newer style like Wonder Woman has is nice, too. I doubt we'll see the new molding for Simpsons sleeves on standard legs, though. Short legs are one thing, only having holes on the bottom, it might be harder to do with standard ones.
