Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I think I'll like it more once that signpost is positioned out the front -- because apart from that, what visual clues are there that the building is even a Post Office? I'm disappointed that there aren't more post boxes out the front, or a wall of PO boxes along the side. The design essentially relies on people recognising a brick-built post horn, which for me (as a non-European) is quite a stretch. I like the balloon dock though, it seems like a fun play feature.

For me it's the tan bricks that don't really gel with the other colours, but the more I look at it the more I appreciate the kookiness of the design. I think it'll look better once the colourful presents are stacked on top -- it needs that chaotic colour pop to tie all the other colours together.

If the Post Office rumour is true (and I hope it is) then I'm retroactively surprised that the Alpine Lodge didn't include a postbox. If it had then we would have had a long run of recent sets with postboxes (from Santa's Visit onwards) ready to be serviced by a Post Office and delivery truck. I'd love it if an updated Post Office found a way to include the iconic green roofs and bow window from the original.

I guess no leak is 100% certain, but the original leak from Brick Clicker already says the set will "include a large side building," as well as a mailbox and a Christmas tree. So I don't know if a bookmaker would agree to take a bet this safe, ha. I'm pretty sure the Winter Village line has always drawn inspiration from traditional Christmas putzes, and the two big manufacturers of ready-made buildings (Department 56 and Lemax) both have a hot air balloon as one of their products. So, adding a hot air balloon to a wintry Christmas scene has some precedence. I just hope the balloon is BIG.

I already got to check off a couple of items on my previous wishlist -- the Alpine Lodge is pretty much what I imagined for a Holiday Inn, and the Winter Market Stall GWP is close enough to a remake of the Winter Village Market. (Well, not really, but I've bought the original market second-hand since then so I no longer have a burning desire for a remake.) That leaves a Christmas Tree Farm, a Winter Village Police Station, and a remake of the Winter Village Post Office as my three big speculations. Previous sets (particularly Holiday Main Street) have also cultivated a "Christmas shopping" theme, but it's hard to buy anything in my village that isn't a toy or (recently) a musical instrument, which has left me thinking that a cosy antique shop could be quite a beautiful addition to the line. I'd very happily send my minifig shoppers through the door to peruse a wall of ornate clocks.

    Amazing -- thanks!

Thanks! But also, that's far too much effort for me. If anyone wants context for my previous comment, Google "Lego Merry Marauder."

I saw an ad for Lego Fortnite the other day (I've never played it) and was surprised at how many Christmas designs were included in the mix of skins. Some of them are a bit ghastly, but I guess it's within the realm of possibility that some figures could get a physical release -- in which case I'd really like to add that gingerbread warrior (the "Merry Marauder") to my Gingerbread House. EDIT: I intended to upload a picture here, but I'm not sure how they work on this silly site. Maybe it'll pop in later.

I wish the set had more play features, or at least more potential for emergent narrative -- I like that the tax collector has a little hidey-hole for his stolen coins, but apart from that I'm not seeing much of a story. Why doesn't the tax collector have a proper chest for the wolfpack crook to steal? Why doesn't the crook have his own hidey-hole inside the tree? Why doesn't the shield painter have an illicit wolfpack shield hidden behind a secret wall? Maybe that's not the point of an 18+ set, but the Lion Knights' Castle had oodles of play features, so I'm disappointed they didn't broaden that appeal again here.

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion

A prominent leaker revealed one of the seasonal GWPs a few days ago, which looks to be some brick-built Christmas baubles. Which isn't Winter Village news per se, but given how many of the previous GWPs have been compatible with the theme, it's kind of news that this one won't be. The same leaker claims they'll be releasing some more "festive rumours" on Friday -- something involving a horse, perhaps?

Thanks -- I've been lurking in this thread for years, so it's fun to finally contribute!

Here's my six-year wishlist for the Winter Village theme: Winter Village Post Office (remastered) Retains the post van and the colour scheme from the original 2012 set, but adds in some extra pieces to beef up the main build. Includes a working parcel locker and two numbered letterbox side builds (like the “front gate” from Santa’s Visit) so the postman can drive a little route. Christmas Tree Farm Similar to the GWPs from 2013, but adds on a big snowy barn filled with animals. Includes a pick-up truck and some “blank” brick-built Christmas trees which can be decorated to taste using the ornaments provided. Holiday Inn A restaurant and hotel all in one, with gabled roofs, dormer windows, and cute little window boxes. Includes outdoor seating (with a gas heater) and a cosy upstairs guest room, and maybe even an old fashioned taxi (like Ernie’s cab in It’s a Wonderful Life) to help ferry the suitcases of a weary minifigure. Winter Village Police Station A charming village police station, staffed by classic English bobbies similar to the CMF Series 11 Constable. Includes two mini-cases to be solved: finding a lost cat (as seen on a child’s poster), and catching a crook dressed as Santa Claus, whose cache of stolen presents can be found by following some footprints in the snow. Winter Village Market (remastered) Retains the iconic carousel, but makes the side builds a bit more interesting. Now includes a stage for carollers, a stall selling ornaments and wreaths, a wandering clown, and a puppet show booth that evokes a (much friendlier) Punch and Judy show. Holiday Main Street 2 Two more tall shops to match the 2022 set: a sports store filled with bicycles, skis, and toboggans, and the oft-requested lolly shop, filled with all sorts of candy. Includes lots of holiday shoppers and a large snowy rotunda.
