  1. There are certainly Quidditch figures I'd be happy to get (Zabini, Zacharias Smith, Roger Davies, Bell, Johnson, Spinnet) but we'd be getting a Harry at least and possibly other better known characters.  I much prefer what we're getting personally as these characters would all have been longshots to come in regular sets.  Except from a Leaky Cauldron which I fear we are not ever going to be getting.

Rufus Scrimgeour in particular is a nice surprise if a little out of place, I do not think there was any other way we'd get him as he's not even featured in any significant ministry of magic scenes.

  2. The inclusions honestly make a lot of sense to me.  We've wanted extra characters to fill out Diagon Alley and there's no point giving us generic witches and wizards when there are some with actual screen time which fit the bill, mentioned by name in the films (Doris Crockford) and a recurring character in the books (Dedalus Diggle).

Scrimgeour is an outlier but I understand the inclusion, he's a wizard from the wider wizarding world (not Hogwarts based) who we would be very unlikely to get otherwise.  We'd never get his speech at the ministry or the reading of the will.

Hannah Abbott had less screentime and no lines from the last accessory pack also.

Exactly. I'm also not convinced that the wizard with the hat is Deadalus Diggle, even though that is a bit closer. Diggle should be wearing a red hat, and he doesn't have a beard.

There have been accessory packs with generic figures though, like the Black Widow and Falcon team-up. That comes with two AIM agents which aren't named.

True, but superhero sets generally need villains for kids to play with and Marvel is filled with nameless foes for the superheroes to show off their powers against.

It's possible that the characters are just generic but I think the "Dedalus Diggle" figure is as good a representation of Diggle as could possibly have been made using existing parts - same goes for Scrimgeour.  If we're then to assume that it is Diggle then it would make sense for the only named witch featured in the same scene to be the one chosen here, and if so then the torso is a good choice (tried to link a picture) and they've picked a witch's hair/hat piece which is as close as you could get with a face print to match the hair.  Mind you, the McGonagall hair/hat colouring would have been much better imo, not sure what face would have worked with that.

Edit: changed the picture to one of Doris and Dedalus.

That witch looks nothing like Doris Crockford besides the torso though...honestly I think she could just be a generic witch.

I doubt they're just generic characters as I seem to recall the characters all being named on the back of the last student accessory pack.

Agree that the head/hat don't look anything like Doris Crockford - I reckon LEGO started with a hat piece for a witch then picked Petunia's face to match the hair colour.  If there were any characters where I wouldn't be too fussed with LEGO deviating from the films then it's these.

  5. Honestly delighted with this accessory pack

Given the fact that you don't seem to get more than 2 new prints with these, I'm so glad with the variety here.  Much better than a Hogwarts robes/Quidditch accessory pack for me as I like getting new characters.

     - Harry is Harry, nothing more to add.

     - Dedalus Diggle is actually a very decent representation although it'll annoy me having to wizards with the same torso in Diagon Alley...

     - Doris Crockford is another great inclusion, not remotely accurate to be honest (if this is indeed supposed to be her), but the hat piece still looks great and the dress print is really nice.

     - Rufus Scrimgeour is also great to get, again I think he looks as decent as we could have hoped when being composed of existing parts.

The props are nice, everything about this makes for a great addition to Diagon Alley.

For those wishing for more important characters, if LEGO knows about Dedalus Diggle then they know the big characters we're missing.  We'll get Percy, Rita, Pomfrey etc. in due course, LEGO needs to save some to keep the attraction going in future waves.

(still no clue what it says on the leaf jar though)

My theory on this is that it's a jar of Bezoars (the potion ingredient mentioned in first potions lesson and that Harry uses to save Ron in Slughorn's office).

The lettering nearly seems to match, though definitely looks like an A rather than a B at the front... and the actual ingredients certainly work as a colourful LEGO-ified interpretation of stones found in the stomach of a goat.

  6. We've reached the post-reveal lull! I'd be interested to know everyone's favourite minifigure, new part/printed piece and build detail of each set.

    Here are my picks.

76386 Polyjuice Potion - Harry/Goyle, polyjuice cup, moving sink

76387 Fluffy Encounter - Gold Hermione, Sleepy Fluffy head, protruding torches

76388 Hogsmeade - Madam Rosmerta, Honeydukes window panes, snow on the roofs

76389 Chamber of Secrets - Sinistra, barn owl, little landings in great hall with potions/chessboard

76392 Chessboard - Harry, pawn helmets, bishop build

76393 Harry and Hermione - Hermione?, torso print, Hermione hair build

76394 Fawkes - Dumbledore, Fawkes (minifig scale), build of Fawkes' neck

76395 Flying lesson - Madam Hooch, James Potter shield, statue

Could it be , https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Boomslang_skin the ingrediant that Hermoine has to steal from Snape's office?

Good idea, but i think I've finally worked out what it is!  I think the label says "Bezoar", this is one of the questions Snape asks Harry in PS and the ingredient that Harry uses to save Ron in HBP.  The B looks like an A but otherwise the rest of the word looks about right, and the Bezoars in the jar look a good resemblance.

I am sad too and I dont think they will ever return to 2018 style. I am definetely planing to moc them to fit with my 2018 layout.

Do you think they'll continue with the anniversary theme (sand green roofs etc) beyond the anniversary year?  I'm pretty sure this will be a one off and we'll be back to a Deathly Hallows wave next year.

Can anyone make out the printed piece under the pink gem in the great hall? Looks like it has a label and decoration for some kind of potion or something.

  9. As far as I'm concerned it's a given that we'll be getting a gold Dumbledore.  There's apparently no golden figs in the non-anniversary Fawkes and Harry/Hermione sets with different box art, and there won't be any in a polybag or advent calendar.  Does this just leave the D2C as the only other possibility?  Which means it could still be anniversary themed?  Or are there any other options e.g. a GWP gold Dumbledore.  It's a shame if we don't get a gold Draco/Hagrid but no Dumbledore when we're getting a Quirrell would be inexplicable, the only reason I can fathom is that it would require 2 new gold moulds rather than one but still... surely that wouldn't get in the way.

  10. That Sinistra figure really is way better than it has any right to be.  Honestly every piece of it, fantastic printing, nothing reused, wonderful recolour of the hat piece, even the gold arms add a nice touch.  Think it could be one of the best looking Harry Potter minifigures ever and the standout of this year.  ...and all for a character with minimal screen time and no lines!

Not really. There's Beauxbatons Carriage

Ah yes you're right! The most forgettable set of the new wave lol

There's a Quidditch trophy in the flying practice set so I think we'll get a trophy area inside (maybe a new James Potter shield) and a Quidditch equipment area.

Did people earlier in the thread say they saw proper images of the Fluffy set? Including interiors?

Also, is the flying lesson the first time we get a set without any of the three main protagonists?

Great question! Not if you look before 2018 (original Hagrid's Hut, Draco and Buckbeak, Quality Quidditch Supplies all spring to mind).

If you don't count books then I think you're right for all the sets since 2018.

  13. My guess for the Wizard cards:

    - Dumbledore (surely)

    - Grindelwald (also a pretty safe bet I reckon)

    - Godric Gryffindor

    - Helga Hufflepuff

    - Rowena Ravenclaw

    - Salazar Slytherin

    - Merlin

    - Herpo the foul (throwback to the old PC game)

    - Hengist of Woodcroft (as appears in Three Broomsticks, mentioned by someone before)

    - Bertie Bott

    - Newt Scamander

    - Nicolas Flamel

    - Bloody Baron

    - Uric the Oddball

    - Voldemort

    - Harry Potter

  14. My thoughts on the sets - general comment on gold figures is that I like them (good spot about the sets with a gold spell from Harry containing these whoever that was), also love the inclusion of wizard cards

    Hogwarts/Chamber of Secrets - 8.5/10

Takes me back to getting the original 4709 for Christmas - that was probably the best present I've ever had!  The nostalgia is real!  So many references to previous sets, here are some of them that I've noticed:

     - Great hall has loads, the fireplace, banner, crystal ball, layout, even with a pink Dumbledore

     - Wizard cards like the 4709 Great Hall (can't wait to end up bricklinking the Merlin wizard card after buying all the sets...)

     - Chamber of Secrets also very similar with the basilisk build and same minifigs

     - Removable turret with telescope inside

     - Glow in the dark figure too!

As for the set in general, I love it. Yes it's ugly on the outside but it has a strange charm. The great hall has a more interesting/detailed interior than the vastly bigger 2018 version.  I love the gold lectern and the cereal boxes.

Frogs for days, there are at least five (assuming that's a frog above the Hogwarts banner) in this set including a white skeleton frog in the Chamber which made me laugh! Pixies are fantastic, I love the Lockhart overload. Colin, Justin, Sinistra are perfect new figures. Great to get another sorting hat and sword of Gryffindor. So chuffed with the house robes for each house, they're perfect.  Bonus Luna is nice, I don't mind the copied head as it's accurate enough - looks like a cute 1st year version of Luna which we never saw in the films.

    Hogsmeade - 8.5/10

Lovely job of Hogsmeade. Great details and great figs. Both building look cozy and make you wish you were a minifigure.  The actual minifigures are great, a crazy selection but I like them.  Think the reused faces work really well for Rosmerta and Mrs Flume - I don't mind reused faces at all where they look accurate like this (Bellatrix, Molly and Ginny from the Burrow on the other hand...)

    Fluffy's corridor - 6/10

I should add that I haven't seen any high quality pics of this set (are there any?).  Least exciting figs and build.  Fluffy is nice to get but will wait for a sale with this one.

    Girl's bathroom - 8/10

This is nothing crazy in terms of build but well executed. The connection to the slide in the great hall is fantastic. Figs are perfect, love the new faceprints for Harry and Ron. Think this might be the first set I ever buy two of as I want both versions of the figs. Green polyjuice cup is great too!

    Fawkes - 7/10

Done really well but not for me.  May have to bricklink the Dumbledore if it's new so hopefully not!

Buildable Harry and Hermione - 6.5/10

Done really well also but this is also an easy miss for me.

    Flying practice - 8/10

This was the best surprise of the day, great figs, nice looking build with cool shields/banners. Plus a new remembrall which is another nice throwback.

    Chess set - 7/10

Glad this is an actual chess set. By my eye, the plates are 2x4 (seven studs followed by torch on a jumper plate going round the outside), so it's nice that this is square.  I don't think the pieces will fall over too easily and would have been nice to have some studs - at the same time it's nice to be able to slide pieces about playing chess.  Figs are perfect.

  15. There's a new Ron leak with more detail of the shirt print.  The back printing is nice and a very good representation of the actual attire.

I just love getting all the different variations of the trio.

But won’t the sets be retired by then?

They'll be about for 2 years minimum I reckon.  I believe that's the norm at least, not sure of the release dates of the ones you're interested in though.

Hi friends, I know this is the wrong thread but I just have a quick question,

Ive been looking to buy a few of the new bust sets but I’m not quite interested enough to buy them at full price. When is the best time to buy at a lower price?

This varies a lot, I generally find October to be the best month for price reductions.  I sometimes look at similar sets on a price tracker (e.g. camel camel camel), just paste the amazon URL and you can see the price history, generally October/November are best for sales.

I'd much rather use the parts from the 3 Hogwarts sets to build upon my existing castle than display them in/alongside it and making it look ugly and disjointed.

Yeah I'm excited to build the CoS set, but like all the HP stuff it'll get broken up for parts at some point.

I’ll be the same, some of the parts are pretty useful such as the rounded window pieces and the roof pieces.  I think the main tower pieces might be a nice option for an owlery.

For anyone interested, here’s what the sand green and dark bluish grey roofs look like when combined from my modified 4842 Hogwarts. I personally think that the colours combine quite nicely. There are more pics on Instagram (@yopelego) for anyone interested.

  18. Is anyone actually excited about the builds of the upcoming minifigure scale sets? Or planning to add them to their Hogwarts displays?

I’m certainly looking forward to seeing the interiors but I have the feeling that I’m going to end up taking the best bits out of the new sets and incorporating them elsewhere in my set up. This is not preferable as I don’t like modifying anything in the new sets (the one exception being swapping out some of the infamous white door frames in the astronomy tower).

I don’t mind the colour scheme with the sand green roofs, in fact I have a mix of sand green and dark bluish grey roofs already. It’s more the lack of screen accuracy and the blocky nature of the builds that I don’t think will work too well. But having said all that I’m really looking forward to the sets regardless, the minifigures and creatures are fantastic additions and there will definitely be other parts of the build that are great too (e.g. lectern, DADA class etc).

Hogsmeade is the exception, it will go straight on the shelf!

The classroom looks great and I love how many details you have in Filch's office. The library looks good too and everyone loves a hidden gem :D

Thanks! It's possibly a bit detail heavy but I love adding loads of references like the squib letter and the manacles.

    1 hour ago, BrickMatit said:

Oh, that's really nice. How many details in so little space... and the reference to the original castle... fantastic!

Thanks, I really like the look of your candle builds and library ideas, I wish I had a little more space to work with in the library to add another row of shelves.  I'd like to be able to have another three books that can be pulled out.

The Peeves from earlier is fantastic as well, the version from the Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets PC games is my favourite version of Peeves and I would love to see an extremely unlikely Peeves figure made in that likeness.  I had never considered the Shakespeare attire but it works really well.  I think a light aqua coloured head the same as Moaning Myrtle would be ideal but there's very little choice, the one below is not bad except for the monocle...
