@Murdoch17 haha yeah… I swear I didnt forget, just was looking forward to that Canadian tbh…

The mods should post a running tally board to keep track of these rejected Ideas projects and how many times they’ve been rejected— this is what, the 6th? 7th attempt at the Polar Express…?

It probably fails on licensing availability, rather than the build.  In the Ideas guidance, it used to mention about avoiding licensed products, but i guess, since there have been a few licensed Ideas sets now, that its been removed.

I wonder why Lego can't just put them in bags. Like make them non motorized polybags. That's actually what I thought the deal for the separate bikes was going to be before I saw the prices.

TLG are also making a commitment to reduce the amount of plastic they use in packaging, so i think the ‘polybag’ sets may slowly shuffle off, in favour of a smaller box/packet instead.

Maybe you should look into Curcuit cube (it is not LEGO, but compatible). Faller e.g. uses wires and a magnet to steer the wheels.

I like those Curcuit Cubes.  Never seen them before, and if they weren’t so expensive I would love to add them into my developing town.

It's probably they tossed in a wheelchair, much like they have added bicycles and baby carriages. Although we can't rule out a peg legged artist with one eye and a hook.

They put the wheelchair user in the Haunted House / Drop ride in the CE fairground series last year.  I think we’ll see more of this, along with guide dogs etc, as TLG begins to reflect the world around us a bit more.

    You mean, Lego stores?

I don’t know about Lego stores, as I’m about 2 hrs away from the nearest. Just as well, as if I lived closer, I may be bankrupt.

We have supermarkets and Argos (A catalogue shop) which are currently dropping 20% or more off most of the listed City sets.

Stonewars updated it's End of Life list, and looks like some 2021 City are actually surprisingly retiring soon: (and brickset also shows 2021 as end dates).

    https://www.stonewars.de/news/lego-eol-end-of-life-2021/#lego-city-eol-2021

    2021 sets include

    60279: Fire Hazard Truck

    60285: Sports Car

    60286: Beach Rescue ATV

    60288: Race Buggy Transporter

    60289: Airshow Jet Transporter

    60290: Skate Park

    60306: Shopping Street

That would explain why some of these are now discounted in stores here in the UK.

I went with LightMyBricks. I have 4 or 5 modular buildings lit up now and lighting kits for 5 more... once I get the sets built (I am behind!). I also use their products to light my creator cars and a passenger train. I am now working on a DIY hybrid where I use their connectors but my own LEDs. Once I learn where to post it on Eurobricks, maybe I will write a review going over how I did it...

I’ll look forward to this.  I’d love to light up my ever growing modular town, and fairground, but the LightMyBricks kits are way beyond my budget.  I’m reasonably adept at soldering etc, so my eventual plan is to make my own light fittings, although I’ll probably have to miss out some features of the kits, simply due to costs.

Yes! I'm saddened that Lego hasn't done F1 in a while. Last time was during the 2016 wave of Speed Champions.

I think the problem is gaining all the licences.  McLaren used to be licensed to another company, as did Ferrari.  With the speed champions they’ve got more of the manufacturers on board, but i can’t imagine Red Bull falling into line these days, and that’s 4 cars out of 20, gone straight away.

It would be wonderful if LEGO finally created a modular that could actually be modularized with the purchase of more than one set — where the first floor and top floors of set #2 could be turned into a proper looking and functioning pair of middle floors for set #1. Then, a builder could buy a couple hotel sets and truly make as many rooms and bathrooms on as many floors as they want, without using loads of custom pieces.

It’s an often wished for thing, however I think the compromises that probably would have to be made, on the original individual building design, to make it work, might count against it getting past the final design and storyline phase of TLGs review process.  Certain parts of Assembly square had this capacity, with the left hand Music Store and Dance Studio rooms.  I remember that it drew a bit of criticism for a repetitive build.

But the other motors are more expensive because they contain rotation sensors. I'm pretty sure that they will stick to the train motors.

I don't like the passenger sets either but you can play that people are entering and leaving the train etc. Also, the parents stand in front of the sets and think "my child wanted to get a train... this one is much cheaper. I'll get this one" (at least that's what my father did back then :D).

Fair point on the costs, although I can see the benefits of the rotation sensors actually, to perhaps make the train stop after X number of rotations which would align with a station.  All you would need to do is enter the number of straights, left/right curves and any gearing.  Might be quite a challenge, but useful.  The Crocodile loco uses a non specific motor so I’m wondering if this has been done.  I havent got a track set up at the moment, or motor to try, sadly.  I only have one Powered Up train motor, and no others.

As for the playing people entering/leaving, oohhh if only they actually put doors in the trains, like the old days, how that might be true.  A pet peeve of mine, which is true about some road vehicles too.

One thing that I'm not sure is if the price calculation for the next sets works. The current city trains seem to be sold below the "powered up value". The new sets might get more expensive, supported by the rising costs of chips and all the other materials. High prices might shrink the market (as they did with the disney train).

When you consider that the train series has a specific motor in it, most of the time, its even more surprising that they don’t cost more.

Perhaps TLG are going to try to move away from this, and try to make the more common motors fit, which will require a complete redesign of locomotives at least.  I’d like to see a steam loco driven passenger set, as i think this would sell well, to both adults and children.  The current and previous passenger sets, with modern appearances don’t offer much play value.

  12. I get the rather large sense of frustration in this list, and its responses.  I tend to feel some sets are overprice because they contain a number of large, mostly unique pieces, that don’t have much re-use-ability, such as the ocean explorer sets, or coast guards.  These tend to only hit my collection if they’re seriously discounted (35% or more off) and I’d never buy them for a child unless they were desperately into that theme.

  13. A couple of suggestions.

I’d perhaps move the front bogie of the tender back a stud, and maybe even consider making the centre wheels without flanges.  It could do with being a little closer to the cab too, but I think the standard Lego curve radius might make that impossible.  To get a rounder front end to the boiler, perhaps switch to SNOT somewhere along the length, and use these, Brick, round corner, for the last 2 or 3 rows.  You can then use the inverted radar dish as the boiler capping.

Have you considered going SNOT, making the running boards a long tile (1x8?) which could then stretch over the outside edge of the wheels.  It would be a tad wider, clearly, but you could then drop the running board lower.  You’d never get it as low as it should be with the connecting rod in place, even if you had a half wide technic beam. It may be a case of deciding which one matters more to you in terms of aesthetics.

If a Fairground set is cancelled this year, well, that’s a big bummer. I saw Ferris Wheel (Creator 3-in-1) it made me excited thinking it would be Fairground set this year.

However, it’s a good thing to save my wallet for next year!

Since there were no serious rumours for this year, I think it’s possible we’re on a gap year with fairground stuff.  Like you, gutted, but will help me save a bit of pain in the wallet.

This will put a dampener on things - the IDEAS Home Alone House is set to come out late September, with a considerably reduced price of $100. This is unfortunately around the WV price point, and late September could be the VIP release with October 1st main release - implying it may be being treated as the WV set for this year.

I still have my hopes up though - I also imagine LEGO would cause serious unpopularity was this the case.

When have we found out about WV sets in the past?

I can’t see them dropping an Ideas set into the winter village range.  That would be like dropping an ideas set straight into the Modulars range.

Still waiting for any Information regarding a new fairground collection set. Wasnt it supposed to be a new set this year?

According to rumors it should be something like that:

    https://i.imgur.com/WXBlj5m.jpg

I’ve not seen or heard anything for that kind of ride.  I’d heard rumours of a pirate ship a while back, but it’s all gone quiet now.   The haunted house was released by now, so I’m beginning to wonder if we’re going to get one this year at all. I hope we do. Perhaps it’ll be a November/early December release to bag Christmas wish lists?

  17. Whilst my town has a fair few ‘vespas’ but few motorbikes, I’ll probably give these a miss, unless discounted at some point, although I would like a ‘Sons of Anarchy’ club house somehow.

On a different note, have just seen the new Technic sets, and love the new heavy duty tow truck.  I don’t buy Technic anymore, but would love a City version to be made.  I know we had one before but I missed it, and have been MOCing my own off and on for a while, with mixed results.

  18. I picked up the castle, and can say its well worth every penny.  With it being modular, to a certain degree, it lends itself to being extended quite well. I’m just working in some MODs atm.

The Ferris wheel was an odd one for me, as its just like a shrunken down version of the expert model.  No sign of an expert fairground this year, so maybe that’s all we’re going to get.

  19. Like others have said, its a lovely looking build, but really odd that its come with no fixed make and model.  All the other créateur expert cars have been identified as something specific.  Looks like it might have been based on something real, but the licence fell through, or the company involved felt it wasn’t quite good enough to put their name on it.

I’ve not purchased any of the other expert cars, although the missus bought me Ecto 1 for Christmas.  I would like the DB5 and Mustang but i know if I bought them, id end up wanting the whole collection, and I can’t afford that and Modulars and fairground ranges too.

  20. Is it not possible to hang the door on the outside, and have it swinging outwards too.  Not quite as clean, but more in keeping.

Having built this IRL now, I appreciate that some parts usage is down to the need to be 3 in 1 i think.  The tree is a prime example, as a better tree can be made with other brick choices.

I would have preferred it if TLG ditched the Dragon/Wyvern and put those bricks into a higher tower, or central courtyard instead.  That’s something I’m loooking to do in my MOD, along with adding a couple of generic wall sections, which hopefully could be added to make the castle deeper, or possibly L shaped if i can get it to work right.  An armoury is needed inside on one of these walls, and I’m thinking about what to put on the other.
