  1. If anyone is interested, I bought the Light My Bricks light kit for the Roller Coaster.  I originally didn't think the coaster needed any lights other than the flashing camera, but it turned out pretty nice.  I like the multi-colored lights on the ground and the light under the canopy where you line up to ride.  I ended up not using the lights that go in the cars.  The batteries to power those lights go in the back car, so you lose a passenger.  I decided I'd rather have all the minifigs riding in the cars than have lights on them.  My least favorite part of the light kit would be the lights over the Coaster sign.  The kit came with a couple plates that you add to the set that just hang over the sign to illuminate it.  I'm not sure what else could have been done, but I'm not crazy about that design.

I think if they were to “cannabalize sales from the D2C, it’s already happened. There are two great halls and grand towers releasing the same month; one system scale, one UCS/Arcitecture scale. However they are actually a similar size. I already have lost some excitement over the main wave because I think the D2C is a better display piece, so I’m sure the same is happening the other way round. However it seems that Lego are confident enough to be releasing a set based on play and one based on display st the same time, so I don’t think it will affect future Hogwarts buildings being system sets.

I know I didn't get the two castle pieces of the regular LEGO sets in anticipation of the UCS castle.  It paid off too as I am very happy with what we've seen.  I did buy the minifigures that come with regular sets though.

    Hogwarts™ Castle measures over 22” (58cm) high, 27” (69cm) wide and 16” (43cm) deep.

After the UCS falcon and the roller coaster I assume we are all looking for free space!

I wish there was some way to have kept it to 12" deep, so it would fit on shelves better.

Heh. What's Lucius doing in the Gryffindor section? XD

Looks great, the only thing I would criticise is the absence of the black/white 'referee' tower. Which could be easily fixed, if you did indeed get two of the set, then it should be easy enough to use the Black parts from the second Hufflepuff tower and the light bley (since they used light bley in place of white on Slytherin) from the spare Slytherin tower to recreate it . . . if you want, that is, obviously I'm in no position to tell you how to build your MOCs . . though, now that I think about it I might get two and do that myself . . anyway, looking great!

I thought about it, and I could use the one from the old Quidditch set that Hooch was from.  But there really wasn't room.  I wanted to make sure each bleacher section could fit was at least 8 studs so I ran out of room.  I originally was going to make a Ravenclaw section too but wasn't room for that either, so it was reduced to the curved area.

Excellent job!  Now I need to buy another of the new quidditch sets.

Is that on two 32x32 baseplates or something else?

yeah just two 32x32.  It's hangs over a stud or two on the backside but I'm sure I could have kept tweaking to get it all to stand on the baseplates.  If I had the parts I would have build up the field higher to be flush with the goal areas but I didn't have the green bricks.  Project for another time :)  Thanks!

I love the meshing of the old and new parts, I can see bits from the old quidditch sets and bits from earlier ages of Harry Potter and they all mesh pretty well here where I feel like sometimes they don't look quite so good together. Excellent job!

Thanks! Yeah thankfully they all mix good.  Sure the quidditch uniforms are a bit different, but hopefully I can acquire news over time.  The Slytherin ones shouldn't be too tough once the CMF series comes out.

Very nice work! I like the seating areas you've added, they blend in well with the towers, neat idea with attaching the trans long pieces to the tops of he towers to pose the figures

Yes that part with the clear bars came together real good.  Thanks!

  6. For years I’ve always wanted a small scale Quidditch pitch set but never got around to building it with the old set even though I purchased extra players. Well I didn’t want to wait long with the new set. I didn’t use many parts from the second set other than the goal pieces but I wanted those extra players too. Here’s what I ended up with:

The full Quidditch Pitch. Ideally the goal areas wouldn’t be raised up so much or I could have built up the field surface more but this will suffice.

:excited: Ordered the Quidditch & Aragon sets, they are(might be were by now) back up on S@H. Now the agonizing week long wait. :ugh:

My Quidditch set from S@H was delivered yesterday but when I opened the box there were 4 or 5 Dumbledore/Ron Brickheads in it instead!  So Lego is expressing me the correct sets, should be here Monday.  They told me to keep the Brickheads lol!

Thank you very much! A behind the scence video would show the pure chaos. ;-) But of course, it would also be a possibility to make such a video.
In a nutshell: I drill holes into the table (made of chipboard) where the cables ought to lead down, so the wires and power sources are connected under the table.

That's what I was thinking was a good way of doing it.  Do you have gaps in your baseplates or do you drill holes into those as well?

  9. Your videos are so good.  One thing I noticed is you do such a good job hiding the wires and power elements.  I'd love to see a behind the scenes video of how you do your cabling for the power.  I'm building up a city now and have all my modulars lit but I'm struggling with the best way to cable everything and make it look nice.

  10. I personally loved the Helicarrier, so a Hogwarts in that fashion is exciting for me.  I big plus of the Helicarrier though was the brick built display stand for the regular size minifigures that came with it, so hopefully this will have something like that too.  But I'm excited about the possibility of getting a full, but micro Hogwarts.  I think it would look great on display with all the regular minifigs and the CMF ones displayed around it.

  11. I love this set.  I've just sat there and watched the cars go by so much lol.  Love all the expressions on the minifigs, the little things like the photo booth, cotton candy machine, etc.  I really only have one complaint and that is the queuing line.  It is basically a circle no entrance or exit to the ride.  That will have to fixed when I get it placed in a display.
