These are really mind blowingly excellent...bravo!!!

I cross posted over on the PAB thread, but thought it would be relevant to post here too. Here is my PAB cup from last week: From Ricecracker's post, it looks like the selection hasn't really changed much. I remember those pieces in his load. I might hold off on going back for awhile...but some more lime 1x2 tiles and r-brown 1x4 tiles are calling...yeah I realize my sub-totalling is off on the PAB amount...too lazy to correct for $0.20 over-calculation...but I was going for a theoretical price per piece based on the flat rate cup price.

How can they say better than expected when the store has only been open for essentially a couple weeks? That's crazy. The plan must already have been in motion as these things usually take over a year to plan out... Mind you...I'm not complaining, as I could make that one at lunch!! Woohoo! I could become the King of the PAB inventory update!!

Model Request
Toadtorrent replied to A Future Pilot's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Very nice job...now you need to do a larger detailed UCS version. -
This is fantastic. One of the best textured waves I've seen. I like your concept for the wedges rather than the usual hinged plates to create the curve. The colour combinations add a nice bit of realism, and the "wake" of the surf board is also excellent.

MOC: Rossville Vision Clinic and Artist's Apartment
Toadtorrent replied to Still Raindrop's topic in LEGO Town
Agreed...very clever idea...and I really like the phoropter as well. Great stuff. -
That's insane...at that price, that even justifies standing in line from 6am to get those...if you could only guarantee that price...
-
He's referring to Bricks N Blocks which has closed. The Sherway store is alive and kicking.

Those are great. Too bad I couldn't make it.

Thanks!! You're right on the mileage though...return trip is about 50km or about 30 mi...but at a rate of wear and tear + gas at around $0.40/km = $20 in "car cost" (the amount amortizes insurance, wear and tear, etc. at car rates about 20% below what my company reimburses). $20 buys another cup, or at least the shipping on a few BL pieces. I'm used to walking or biking everywhere...so with traffic (more the real issue) it's not really something I have the desire to do too often for what really amounts to "impulse" purchases. Knowing I'll need more brown tiles to "floor" some buildings, or more pallisades to build some log forts however, means I have a purpose and reason to go there.

I can't compete even the slightest to Lego Otaku either in terms of quantity, quality of selection or quality of available PAB cups, but I'm still happy with my haul: I don't even have photos for that matters, but they had lots of pallisade bricks and brown tiles for floor work...and hopefully the PAB selection will improve over the coming months. These were purchased from the new Toronto store. As you can see and as has been discussed ad nauseum, S@H PAB prices are insane. Is it worth it to go PAB if the drive is 20km + driving each way? Hard to say financially given the cost of gas and wear and tear on the car vs. BL quantity prices plus postage, guarantees of getting the parts you want, and time saved from cup loading...but the experience of checking out the store was fun...and I'll likely be back for more tiles and log bricks...factor in cashing in 200 VIP points and you can't say "no" to a $10 cup of over 750 parts!!

I just called the 1-800 number, they looked into it and said they would send one out shortly. It was a bit confusing as the poster does not show up as an item on the order list like the ARF trooper did, so they did not see themselves as having missed an item...stay tuned, I'll see if it actually arrives.

The Winners near Lawrence and Bathurst (?) occasionally has Lego (as of last week they had about 3 or 4 small sets). The problem is that the prices are only about 30% off for limited selection, so you're often better to get a TRU sale at 25% off but with more selection. @Prateek - the Lego Store didn't have any of the keychains or magnets for sale aside from the 3 for 2 deal advertised HERE, but they did give away copies of Lego Universe with purchases.

I spoke to the store folks and they said it was a 2.5 hr line up to get in all weekend. The hot movers were the Grand Emporium, Tripod Invader and the AT-AT which all sold out. I went today late afternoon and it wasn't that busy at all and had 4 very helpful, eager (albeit newly trained) employees working the floor. It's a nice store, but given the drive at 50km return trip, car wear and tear and gas prices, I don't think I'll be making the trip regularly...and will likely do most of my ordering via BL still. The PAB wall does have Dark Red 2 x 4's though, but the tiles were limited, no wheels, gears or anything really exciting.

Good to hear!!! It would be different for me with 2 screaming kids wanting to run crazy instead of standing in a lineup...ok...I'm inspired now! Thanks for the update.
-
Do you mean the pallisade bricks like for building wooden forts? Excellent. I'll definitely have to check the store out soon...who knows what I'll find by the time I get there. Glad to hear you got in...still a 3 hour wait almost for you, even though it was before the store opened!!
-
Holy Crap...ok...I feel like a wimp...but the lineup at the Sherway opening was 3 hours long just to get INTO the store...let alone buy anything. We did the community build of the R2-D2 and that was fun. The kids had a hoot, and we built a pile of bricks before we had to leave...but the lineup to get in was MASSIVE...and considering that the May 4th sale had all the hard to find sets available without shipping...that was a much better option. I would have liked to have seen the PAB wall...but I'll wait until a weekday at lunch when I'm out there rather than the lunacy that was driving on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I had dreams of cups of palisade and foilage bricks...oh well...they will be mine...oh yes they will be mine...but not today. >sigh< No R2 brick for me.

All you people who didn't get your ARF trooper but got the poster are so lucky...I got my Power Functions motors, ARF Trooper but NOOOOO poster...a call to Customer Service is in order. It's funny they are giving out the Boba Fett keychain as a substitute as these were on sale at the S@H for around half price...so kind of a cheezy substitute...
-
Thanks...that's what I wanted to know. I had heard from another AFOL who worked the Calgary opening and he said the PAB wall will not really pick up for another 3 months and that it will be pretty basic for the opening period. I have my R2 coupon with me now, in case I can make it out there...but it's not close. If I do go, I'll try and get a rough inventory of the PAB selection.

Great review and thanks for this. There was also an older Brick Journal video from February that showcased the Alien Conquest sets and their function. The sound brick function with the spinning on the mother ship is really fun, and I think combined with the Abduction set would be the best combo for an MOC. The video is here:

Hah hah...I guess the only solution then...is to go there myself...hopefully this weekend.
-
Ummmm...excuse me...but uuuuh...no mention of the Pick a Brick selection???? Please???? That's what I'm looking for. ;) Great news though...thanks.

It's another issue of needing multiples: ========== SERIES 1 ========== - Zombie army - Cheerleading squad - Luchadora tag teams ========== SERIES 2 ========== - 300 Spartans ========== SERIES 3 ========== - Tennis and Sumo matches - Baseball teams - Mummy, Samurai and Elf armies ========== SERIES 4 ========== - Soccer and Hockey Teams - Hazmat crew - 3 Musketeers =========== SERIES 5 =========== - Bob AND Doug As to iconic Canuck identities, I like to think of the Eskimo as the Canadian Inuit variety rather than being and American Alaskan Yupik so with Bob and/or Doug, that gets us TWO Canadians this round...and arguably the hockey player in Series 4. HAH. A mountie would be awesome...with a new accessory being a new hat and a hobby horse!

I didn't. The boxes were shipped from a Canadian distribution site, so no brokerage applied. @sok117 - My understanding was that they were mailed to people who had ordered from the Lego site in the past, possibly targetted by region.

I didn't even buy any SW Lego and still got the ARF Trooper. I just bought a bunch of Power Functions motors, cables, controllers, etc which adds up to $75 pretty quickly, and the order confirmation shows the free ARF Trooper listed, with the appropriate discounts also applied on the power functions parts. When I was experimenting with this, the free ARF trooper also showed up if you ordered $75 in PAB elements...so the offer was not limited to Star Wars purchases.
