  1. Typically the number 6xxx for space sets represented sets that were available worldwide and listed in standard catalogues. 6954 Renegade is an exception.

Sub-Orbital Guardian walker kinda looks like a helicopter on top, with Alienator feet. I agree to many previous comments over the years about the similarity to Alienator in the function of the feet/legs - but I don't think over all they look much like each other so I refer to it in its own right. For me, Alienator looked too much like AT-AT ripoff anyway. Cool set though.

The minifig isn't wearing a harness, it's a jet pack. Why is he wearing one inside a vehicle? I don't know. Quick getaway I suppose - I always imagined walkers to be quite slow. Lack of controls in this set is a bit annoying, you just have to pretend. Neural interface or something. Maybe a touch screen comes up on the windscreen. At least it doesn't have a steering wheel like some space ships - that makes no sense.

Cute little set, good one to have a few of. (And with the old idea of one faction in a set, you could buy a bunch without getting a bunch of the same alien enemy fig on a flying carpet! SP3 I'm talking to YOU) haha

  2. I think it's more like the 'Intentional Foul' strategy in Basketball; if he doesn't do it, Uruguay loses, if he does it and gets penalized, he still gives his team a chance to live.

Don't compare American sport to rest-of-the-world sport, everyone knows American sports are wrong in every way... (Oooh time out! Time out! Pause the game!)

  3. It's actually not trans. neon green; it's trans. bright green, which is a new color for this year. And I certainly like that color scheme. But since Eurobricks considers it an action theme rather than a sci-fi theme, it really doesn't matter to this topic.

My favorite Sci-Fi theme would probably be Space Police III for its various callbacks to older themes, its overall mood and style, and the gorgeous design of so many of its sets. However, it's only natural that I'd prefer its set design, since it's the most up-to-date-- otherwise, Spyrius would be a tough contender with its consistent theme of saucers-and-robots, as well as its attractive color scheme and easily-identifiable role in the grand scheme of multi-faction LEGO Space.

Maybe Space Police III is action rather than science fiction. All the cannons and flick missiles, the videos on the Lego site certainly look "action-y" (wow look at the cool things that are happening - this is no dull science fiction crap) and the sets don't exactly look like anything happens slowly.

For me, the good science fiction stuff is really slow and interesting (brain engaging) and action is brain numbing stuff where there's always something exciting happening (ie things blowing up or people getting shot) and it's all ridiculously over-the-top (Transformers 2?)

  4. The Dark Knight was one of the most well-received comic book movies of all time, and yet it was quite a bit different from this:

    Batman-Robin-Photograph-C12150175.jpeg

Yeah, so many of my good arguments have been destroyed when people use my logic to question the validity of the movies Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins & The Dark Knight, considering the 60s TV show. Curse you, Batman!

  5. Space.

If we're talking subthemes & the vibe that the overall subtheme's colours created, then I say Blacktron I & Unitron.

If we're talking the coolest sets/ships whatever or even minifigs, then I can't decide. There are so many really good ones.

  6. Wont matter since all K-Mart stores in Perth are closed at 6pm on a Wednesday (thankfully our politicians have finally agreed to allow extended trading to 9pm on weeknights once the new laws are passed)

Come on WA get with the times haha, we introduced "open slather" trading 10 years ago... local K-Mart is 24 hours, so I imagine the sale started at midnight?

  7. I'm pretty sure last years impulse sets were also not in the catalogue so I wouldn't rule them out. Besides they are all on S@H for Auistralia, so I'd expect we will eventually get them in retail stores.

Yeah, plus they're called "impulse" because they aren't advertised, (they often aren't in the Lego aisle but are near the counter) you see them on the way out and think: "wow, that looks pretty cool and it's cheap I might grab that too - on IMPULSE" haha.

Don't fret, they'll most likely appear eventually.

  8. Pod interchangeability:

6991 Monorail Transport Base - 2 identical pods | 1 dock on buggy & 2 identical docks on train

1789 Space Station Zenon - 1 pod | no dock

    1788 Star Hawk II - 1 pod | 1 dock on ship

    1787 Crater Cruiser - 1 pod | 1 dock on vehicle

(I also have a MOC vehicle with a docking location)

6991 train, 6991 buggy (& MOC): ALL pods fit

1787: All fit besides the 6991 pods

1788: Only the 1788 pod fits

    1788 pod: fits all docks

    1787 & 1789 pods: fit all docks except 1788

6991 pods: do not fit 1787 or 1788

    Hope that makes sense.

  9. Sent Home? SENT HOME? IS THAT ALL? They should have been shot by a firing squad, standing in the goal so we can disallow there death and stand them up and shoot them again!

If they did that to the players that made a poor decision there wouldn't be enough men to play the 2nd match of the first round.

  10. Am I the only one that is getting really tired of all these new themes getting cancelled after only about two or three waves? i.e. Agents, Vikings, Batman, (probably/possibly) Indiana Jones, etc.

I wish they'd actually go the distance with these themes, especially Indiana Jones. It has so much potential; maybe not as much as Star Wars, but they could really milk a lot more out of it than they have.

    *back on topic*

I think SPIII still has another wave, possibly two, in it. I hope so, at least. I've only picked up one or two sets, but I really want to grab some more.

If you look at the history of space lego: what we now call classic space was just generic civilian "space" before subthemes/factions were introduced. The first space subtheme was Futuron, most of the sets were released in 1987&88 - and they were simply "modern" updated generic civilians, hardly a faction. No other subtheme since (until Space Police III) has had more than 3 sets released in more than 1 calendar year. There has also already been more SP3 sets released than most space factions in the past.

What am I saying? It's fair enough to expect that SP3 is indeed "doneski". It is far more likely that next year will bring a new subtheme of space - a new (or reinvented) faction or two, that can sit alongside SP3.

This is being discussed in another thread btw. Space Police 2010 pinned discussion in the Sci-Fi section.

  11. This set isn't bad. It looks really good if you take a step back. Pity there was never a smaller set than this one. (Not to mention the availability outside North America)

As far as the pod interchangeability, I have them all built at home and will have a look later. I don't remember exactly, but I think there was one that didn't fit with another but other than that they all seemed okay?

Okay, so the Unitron sets lacked in number, availability and at times in substance, but the colours were REALLY cool. Unitron was the first space subtheme to have more than 4 main colours (including trans colours): Black, blue, grey, trans-blue & trans-neon green. The figures had yellow, blue, trans-blue, dark grey & grey: the only spacemen to use either yellow or trans-blue since Futuron (not counting the heads of course) and the first spacemen to use any grey.

I counted up my Unitron figures the other day, and I have 1 more chief than non-chief. Stupid 6705... haha.

  12. How do you know the total number of AFOLs are actually in your area? While it is certainly reasonable to surmise that some of those boxes ended up in the hands of resellers/scalpers, it's certainly possible that other buyers were AFOLs that you simply do not know or know of.

After all, many of them might still be "in the closet" if you know what I mean. I do not personally know any AFOLs where I live but I'm pretty sure they're out there. How many? No idea. How many people in my city know that I'm one by looking at me? Not many. I might live in an entire street of AFOLs for all I know.

  13. Yeah, small sets ftw. I could only ever afford small sets as a kid, and the "big" (to me at the time) sets I had were from birthday money + what I'd saved over a long period. The biggest ones I had had only 3 figures.

In reality, a "complete" theme would have a few focal points (like a base/building/fortress, & large vehicle/ship/etc) a few more medium ones (ship/vehicle/base/house/machinery/etc) and a whole heap of small ones (vehicles/ships/robots/figs/animals/etc). In the old days these came separately. Nowadays most of the small stuff is part of a large set with large or medium items (to add to the "battle-in-a-box" / playability of Lego sets). So the themes aren't really over or underbalanced, but there's a lot less "buyability" for those without the budget for the big sets (eg but not restricted to kiddies).

Keeping in mind that Lego faces more than just one buying audience (although going by the questions in the survey I filled out last year the only people that buy Lego are kids or parents buying for their kids). And how do they know who is buying what?

  14. Just incase anyone wanted to read it I found the offical US catalogue discription for this set today while cleaning up.

    'Space Station Zenon

In the farthest reaches of outer space three astronauts guard Space Station Zenon, command base for the Unitron tram.

While an all-terrain vehicle explores the alien landscape and a Uniton spacecraft get ready for take off the station's giant antenna monitors the horizon for upcomming adeventures.'

Pfft maybe on yours it can be a mere antenna. Mine is a laser cannon, and is capable of destroying enemy ships! The base already has 4 other antennae, it doesn't need a giant one!

  15. If I remember correctly, the original Clone Wars cartoon was after this one (chronologicly), because it ended with Palpatines kidnapping, which sets up the start of the third movie? So Foul Moudama and Volfvin Monn could all appear in this series!

I thought it was kinda set around it - as it starts on Geonosis immediately after episode 2, and ends with the battle for Coruscant and Palpatine's kidnapping - but for the most part happened before the new series. I did read the chronology but I forget the details. It also ends with Anakin becoming a Jedi... which surely happened before the Clone Wars movie because why would he have a padawan if he's still one himself? In any case it wouldn't be the first time there was a contradiction in the Star Wars storyline...

  16. I hope General Grievous will be more badass this season, in the last two seasons all he did was fleeing, besides killing Nahdar Vebb with a hidden blaster rifle..

He should be able to do better than that, right?

"Grievous is a coward, he will always run" from ROTS. So there's your answer!

Just re-watched the preview- this time on You-tube, so it was clearer-and am a little spooked. Was that Jedi getting fired on by a clone? Also, that droid isn't neccesarily Threepio. We only see his legs, and there are prototcol droids that look the same.

How many are gold? You may be right, but I reckon it's him.

I think Ahsoka is having visions of Aurra Sing's "death" but Aurra is alive and well and want to revenge <img src='http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_skel1.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':pir-skull:' /> ... and Ahsoka will not die in this season I'm sure :sceptic: ... actually i think they come up with another solution for her maybe she leaves the orders completely....

Ahsoka dying would explain the reason for Anakin's somewhat angry aura in Episode III, so I think that is possible. Either that or she leaves the order to protect Anakin because of something introduced next season.

Or perhaps she finds out about Palpatine being the Emperor and he gets her assassinated? :oh::thumbup::grin:

I reckon she is either bumped off by Palpatine or seduced to the Dark Side for uncovering him. Just like Anakin.

And yes, that's Aurra Sing, and no, she is not dead. She lives past the original trilogy I think. I don't know why she's the only "normal-proportioned" female so far in this cartoon, (the rest of them look weird) but as the nastiest it's a shame, because she looks hot haha.

Me? Well I'm glad Shaak Ti FINALLY makes an appearance in this version of the clone wars, it's like Ahsoka is the ONLY Togruta in the entire galaxy or something. I'd also like to see Saesee Tinn in this version too. Any of the other Jedi that didn't die on Geonosis or in the 2D cartoons. Come on, Anakin isn't the only Jedi... and he also seems to have forgotten that he's on the way over to the dark side.

  17. I just hope that another classic theme is revamped next year, or makes a cameo just as Blacktron, Insectoids and M-Tron (kinda) has!

M:Tron? Where? Did I miss something?

All blacktron I ever had were two blacktron 1 figs from two space police 1 sets, but I lost them :(, it is time to get a blacktron gang...

Blacktron I was the best. The only truly tough looking characters. Despite only having 1 set (Invader) as a kid I had plenty of these guys, as minifig pack 6703 had 2, 6704 had 1, and (most) Space Police I sets had 1 each.

Blacktron III is something I want to do for sure. I may look at updating some of the Blacktron II ships to match the current style. Can't wait for the new space helmet to be released in black!

That helmet would be killer. It would bring out the EVIL in me. The angry eyebrows...

Galactic Enforcer, be prepared to be ground to dust...

  18. Got to Myer yesterday 10 minutes before close. Walked straight past the massive Lego section in a hurry to get to where it (tiny section) usually is... found it on the way out haha. At long last they had all the new SP3 (too bad I've got enough already) but for some reason I got another Raid VPR. No K-9 Bot!!!  Will head into town & try other places during lunch break. There was a huge range of Toy Story, Atlantis, City, Star Wars too. They had a very large table with only two boxes left standing up, both were the cargo train. 3 fire stations and 1 other big set (I forget what - Star Wars I think) were all that was left of the other "big set" table. I asked the young guy at the counter if they sold many train sets, he said "heaps - it was amazing". Didn't ask about Flagship. They had a few of the police car left, about half of the Space Police Central. There were a few empty shelves but for the most part it appeared that the big sets went and little else. I think that means the AFOLs & Christmas layby parents turned up and not many others?

On a side note, I find (local) Myer customer service to be very poor. The only person waiting in the queue, 3 employees right there, 2 registers, yet I had to wait a few minutes for them to wrap up the previous transaction (that was paid & bagged before I got there, what the heck were they doing?). This is not an isolated case, in the past I've had to go looking to ask if someone was going to come to a customer service desk so that a customer could make a purchase. Other times I've stood there for long periods while the "service" people are having a gas-bag behind the counter. How rude?! Is it this terrible at Myer everywhere else or just ours? Every other department store here is fine. (Although the K Mart checkout chicks/dudes are very slow, and Target has very long queues, not enough registers open.)

  19. Surely it'd be easier to part out the VX Falcon and order the parts seperately through Bricklink? I would imagine the cost would be around half of what you'd pay for the whole set, so that works out about right. I did a similar thing with the Batmobile last year. I paid a fraction of what the whole set would have cost me.

In terms of the smaller sets, I picked up the Raid VPR along with the Space Police Central yesterday, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with it as a small fighter. It looks much better in real life than the pictures indicated. I bought it for my son, but now, after having built it, I'm contemplating buying a few more copies to have a small fighter squadron.

All in all, I'm really pleased with the 2010 Space Police wave. Next on my to buy list is the Lunar Limo, but after having bought the Space Police Central and the Raid VPR during double points week, I know have enough points to get the Limo for £25, so pretty pleased about that. I'll probably skip the Undercover Cruiser (as I tend to favour the BHG), but other than that, I'll have the whole 2010 wave.

Seriously contemplating creating a Space Police comic... default_laugh_new.gif

That's the problem with SP3, all the stickers & all the new pieces make it difficult to get all the bits for a half decent price. I'm not too fussed, there are so many different sets for the fleet that I've made up for it with them.

Yeah I bought another Raid VPR last night for some reason at Myer's 20% off toy sale. At least I resisted from buying another big set. That would've been overkill to the max. Only thing is I'm getting quite a number of these Rench characters, but neo-Blacktron outfits you can never have too many of! I would've gotten a 3rd Undercover Cruiser last night but I decided there's too much SP3 in terms of large and medium ships/vehicles in my collection.

The 2010 sets are much better than the 2009 sets. Less stickers, better police minifigs (new full helmets, red visors & more airtanks), better aliens (3 are repaints, but they're better than the originals), more hinged cockpits, more purple & trans yellow, better secondary ships... despite having less prison pods than last year. Here's what I have (not set aside MISB): 3 Raid VPRs, 2 Smash n Grabs, 2 Undercover Cruisers, 1 Lunar Limo & 1 Space Police Central. Add them to last year's swag and it's big. I really like all 5 sets.

  20. Artanis is a (male) protoss character from StarCraft, (also apparently another name for Tolkien's Galadriel). Someone once pointed out that it's Sinatra spelled backwards, but that's not why I chose it haha. I've used it for 10 years or so.

    artanis.gif

I really like the character Cammy from Street Fighter, and kinda look a little bit like her too, so I have always called myself Cammy online.

Unlike some, I don't look anything like who I'm named after... for starters I have more nostrils, haha.

  21. A tie would not have gotten them in to the Round of 16. And the other disallowed goal came against Slovenia with the phantom call that went against US and wiped out Edu's goal.

Today's games were all good games. US and England are advancing and deservedly so, as they were the only two teams in the group to accomplish what mattered in order to advance. That being said, Algeria and Slovenia have nothing to be ashamed of; they showed they can hang with the big boys.

Poor Slovenia... the only way for them to miss the next round was if BOTH England & USA won. Any other result for either game (including draw) they were through. They totally lost the plot in their game, and then were unlucky to miss out by the USA extra time goal. Every so often I'd change the channel to see how Spearmint vs Peppermint was going. Still nil all? There goes USA with another poor attack, oh there goes Algeria with another poor attack... let's go back to the game with skill on display. (Wayne Rooney, that really should've gone in tsk tsk.)

Then group D. Australia & Ghana win, both through. Australia & Germany win by a total of 5, both through. Serbia win, Serbia and winner of other game through. Australia & Germany win by total of <5, Germany & Ghana through. So why did $#%$# Germany have to win 1-0 over Ghana? Oh well, at least Australia got a good win. Pity their game plan was terrible in the first game, it cost badly. Oh and no rubbish red cards or penalties this time!

  22. I'm in a similar boat to you Artanis I. My Space Police Central should be arriving today, so the fleet is getting quite large now, with the Galactic Enforcer and VX Falcon already owned. However, I particularily enjoy the BHG, and have most of their large-ish ships. Just the Lunar Limo to go now!

Problem with the VX Falcon is it doesn't come by itself. You get 2 more skull twins and another street machine thing with identical marks and scratches to the other one you already have... Otherwise I'd buy a few instead of just one. Galactic Enforcer is too big to have 2 of, (there'd be more police than the rest of civilisation), for a similar reason there should only be one base and the Gold Heist ship looks silly. That leaves the small sets and Undercover Cruiser as the only fleetable police ships. The Max Security Transport you could have a few of I suppose, but the price of it has gone through the roof due to its limited edition-ness.

I've got 3 or 4 of most aliens, it doesn't make much sense but I'm limiting to 1 Brick Daddy and Craniac. That gives the group some stable leadership, and I don't have to make up some ridiculous story to justify 2 bosses haha. (As opposed to before, where I had 2 Squiddies, 3+ of just about everyone else. How do you explain that? Who is the leader? etc.) Their ships/vehicles have far too much character to multiply, so other than the small ones the only one I have 2 of is the Smash n Grab (because it was on special, and because I wanted more than 1 Squidtron who I thought cooler than the original). The Lunar Limo is quite something, and the SP Central is really good too. Have fun with that!
