Hello, this is my first post on eurobricks aswell as in a eb contest, ive used eurobricks for some time but only as a guest, so I'm farmilliar with these contests.

So, the set I've chosen is the 9395 Pick-up tow truck:

It features:

Drive with fake v6

Hog steering

Retractable winch and "rear fork" controlled by gearbox inside.

I will try to incorporate all these functions in my model

Since i usually scale my models after wheels and use them as a starting point, I will be using the 49.5x20 wheels which makes my model about 20% smaller, not a lot but a shrink nevertheless. I could also use the thinner variant of the wheels which resemble the proportions more accurately, however I don't own these so I'd have to order from bricklink, but since I started so late they might not come in time, although I'm 99% sure I'll have to order some parts anyways.

So, this is the progress from last night:

I'm quite happy with the progress so far, but this is only a prototype and not much will likely stay the same for long, the hood looks very tall, but according to my questionable math it should be about right. But I'll probably end up making it thinner or moving it further down, although i currently don't have a lot of space under the hood for the engine, so I'll see what I can do about that. The gearbox might be possible to fit, but I could also just use two different mechanisms, and just leave the controlling lever in the cabin out. But that's not really staying true to the original, is it?

One question: could this part be more useful at the front?

Well, not exactly, it would cut into the grille, which on one hand might be fixable if I would make the grille and use the frame as a support, but the main problem would be the connection points on the wheel arch as none of the holes line up with the 7x11 frame. Also the structure I have at the moment is sort of just a temporary support so I can see it irl rather than in ldd. Good idea though! Sorry if the images I posted arent the best.

Edit: I marked the problem parts in green in this photo

You can use pins and technic brick just below frame, or even better you can use plate modified with hole on both side

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=2817#T=C

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but the grille is already held up using the part you mentioned, or atleast the one with a hole on one side, just like it is in the original set. But I hope this picture can sum up the problems better than my previous explaination53094893497_f787fae3dd_m.jpg

Edit: oops, the image is a little small, but the texts say that the offset between the lines are half a stud, which means that the frame and the base holding the grille dont line up, and the blue one just says that the marked holes dont line up, sorry for the inconvinience

Upper line (above headlights) could be one plate width thinner so it could fit. You just have yo play a bit with vareus plates and half pins... Unfortunately I dont have spare pates and slopes (what I have are on my Fastrac prototype) to make it and post here...

As I see plate behind headlights is 4 studs tall, perhaps you can use 2 plates, one 2 and anotber 1 studs wide (to gain 3 studs height..

Okay, some more bodywork progress, its almost done now, its just the hood which i might have to rework. I also added the winch but fitting the gearbox might be a little difficult. Also, I don't know if I'll be able to incorporate a fake engine as the space below the hood is very cramped aswell as the problem about how to get the differential "input" from the rear axle all the way through the gearbox and hog gears up to the hood. I'll see what I can do though.

Also, I finally figured out how to make the photos good (I think)
