Mosaic Maker for Google Sheets

Recommended Posts

It's been ages since I last visited this forum, but in that time, I made an image-to-mosaic converter inside Google sheets (weird decision, I know).

It is now available as an add-on which you can get from Google workspace marketplace.

You can use custom palettes which means that its utility is not limited to LEGO bricks, but it comes with a LEGO preset.

If anybody is into making mosaics, feedback is greatly appreciated!

I was about to install it but then stopped because:

Mosaic Maker wants to access your Google Account xxxxxx@xxxxxx.com

This will allow Mosaic Maker to:

See, edit, create and delete all of your Google Drive files.

This app wants permission to access everything in your Google Drive. It will be able to do the same things that you can do, including:

  • See your files
  • Upload and download your files
  • Delete your files
  • See the names and emails of people that you share files with
  • Share and stop sharing your files with others
  • Remove people from your files
  • Organise your Drive

There may be private information in your Google Drive, like financial records, medical reports, photos or tax info.

That is an understandable concern (and it is good that you caught it).

What it actually does, is:

  1. If a user provides a drive link, it will attempt to retrieve the file with the same ID and if successfully converted into a bitmap file, load it
  2. Save the processed image to drive upon request

Google does not provide individual authorization for the actions you listed above, but only as a whole.

As I cannot provide evidence to my claim you'll have to take my word for it, but that's what's going on.

EDIT: If it means anything, Google's OAuth verification team was very nosy about what I did with my access and made me write a privacy policy as well.
