piterx Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hello everyone! yeah i know, i have to finish the stratos first ....the thing is that on 15th of august, all the italians go to have a picnic in the wild, so as i'm going to the mountain i NEED to have a 4x4 to bring with me :D So after Vitara it's time for Samurai, and this time it's gonna be huge and possibly dark blue! My goal is to have these features: 4x4 lockable center and rear differentials high-low ratio gearbox winch dark blue color fabric white soft top lights if i can, i'd like to make a mechanism to operate the following sequence high ratio -> low ratio -> diff lock -> winch so the car could handle every situation (hope you got what i mean XD) for now i only built the front axle :) i hope you'll like this project! Alasdair Ryan Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Surly you would want the diff lock separate too the ratio selector? What you want is two separate gearboxes that one side controls the speed and the other controls the winch and the diff lock. Quote
piterx Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 actually i'd like to have something like a gearbox that does everything so i'd have all of them sequentially... .even because i'd never use diff lock or winch with high ratio let's say when the high ratio isn't enough you got the low ratio...if it's not enough you can lock diff, if that doesn't help you can use the winch :P Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I do get what you mean, would a automatic shift not be better, although you may run the risk off it not selecting or keeping jumping out of gear. Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Are you gonna use ball joint suspension or real live axle? Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Great start and hope you will make it in dark blue . Quote
Dans lego Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Oh what a coincedence I happen to be building a suzuki sierra (an older leaf spring version) Im interested to see how your build goes as Im a massive fan of the small suzuki 4x4s Quote
piterx Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Are you gonna use ball joint suspension or real live axle? no no! no ball joint :) live axle with 4 links i hate ball joint lol I do get what you mean, would a automatic shift not be better, although you may run the risk off it not selecting or keeping jumping out of gear. no but it won't be automatic, i'll activate it with a m motor i guess :) Great start and hope you will make it in dark blue . i really hope so man! Kelkschiz Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 That is a heck of a pimped Suzuki Samurai, very big wheels on a little car... Quote
Technyk32231 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) Sorry to self promote, but I think that these front hubs would work better. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=526963 Anyway, are you going to use leaf springs, as in the original Samurai? I think you could get it to work well. Edited August 8, 2014 by Technyk32231 Quote

Lakop Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I'm interested to know how you achieve the gearing/switching. H Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 You can make leaf springs! Just use the 9L links as springs Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Looking good man! Will this be your biggest moc ever? :P any idea on how to steer it? Quote
rm8 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Piterx, are you sure your transmission can handle such big wheels without wheel hubs? Or this car is for flat floor only? Quote
Technyk32231 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Nicr front axle! I love those diagonal braces, never seen that used before on an axle. Quote
