Hi and welcome :classic:

Yesterday I answered a  survey about Lego Icons sent to my LUG, there where a few general questions, but after that most of the questions was about Modulars and Winter village sets.
How do you feel about:

So they are interested in finding out more what the customers want from the modular series at least, not sure if that has anything to do with the anniversary next year or not :shrug_oh_well:

Fascinating. What did you answer?

I think a Steampunk set would be cool as there's lots of potential for fun little mechanisms.

Sets from real world IPs would likely be a different scale from the standard modulars. Things like Home Alone and The Simpsons are larger than the modulars in terms of their scale, while the Dr Strange Sanctum Santorum and Daily Bugle feel much smaller, and I don't think either look good next to the standard modulars, but do look good in isolation.

I personally would love modular real life buildings like the Empire State Building. Of course it’d be expensive and plain but it’d be cool to have height in the city and some real monumental buildings.

Huh, it’s pretty interesting.  I’m not sure about modualr buidling a that based off real-life buidling IPs. I agree with @Richard Dower that it will be different like Home Alone.

Don’t’ get me wrong but I’m interested in a taller buidlings like office building, high-rise apartment, etc. I’m little unsure what it means for Winter Village but, personally, I would love to see Modualr Buidling takes on Winter Village style. And I always want to see Modualr Buidings have some part of the world.

Say, I’m curious what you answered those questions?

But, if you want to have it tiled then the 2 tiles I linked, should work. 2x2 Triangular where the flowerpot was. And then the 1x2 Wedge Left next to the counter.

Or 2x2 Triangle next to counter and a 1x2 Wedge Right closest to the wall.

Here are my two cents on these bullet points.

* A second modular series would probably work well if they made it like the Ninjago City series, especially with steampunk theme. Ngl, I'm not into Ninjago, but I love the cyberpunk city vibes those 5 sets give, especially their verticality and multiple pathways above ground.

* To me, wider sets are not a good idea when Lego is already pumping out so many large sets recently and eating away people's display space. Narrower ones would make for interesting fillers though, especially townhouses. Taller ones would be tricky however (see some of the tallest modulars like TH and GG), and again a potential space issue.

* Selling "extra floors" makes no sense when there's already PAB to order parts. I would be more interested in street fillers, either buildings, parks or whatever. But it's something Lego can still propose as free instructions, like they did 3 years ago with the winter park, construction site and wig stand modulars (https://brickset.com/sets/subtheme-Pick-a-Brick-Model-Modular). Then you'd just need to buy the parts yourself.

* Licensed sets do not need to be "modular compatible" to interest potential buyers. I'd say the same for buildings of other themes or parts of the world, with Ideas' Botanical Garden and Italian Riviera being proof of that.

* At the very least, I'd like to see more detailled industrial buildings like shipping warehouses, power plants, factories, etc... But as its own theme rather than sticking it to the modular's main line.

It was just a scale how well you liked the idea on each point, I was mostly on the natural-negative side on most of them

There was also a question about about what kind of modular set idea (new or revisited) I would like to see. You should choose 3 of a lot of "older modulars" and some new ones. There I choose park, train station and post office.

There is an Icons 18+ Haunted House coming in September (1420 pieces, $110). I wonder if this will be modular compatible, at least in terms of scale. It's double the piece count of 31167, but not much more expensive, suggesting it could be a more detailed build of about the same size. Or maybe larger but with fewer/less expensive figures. Seems odd to have two haunted houses released within a year.

I think park and post office are great choices! Not sure about train Dayton fitting into modualr buidling city. We have Spring Lantern Festival set a couple of years ago and it fits really ncely into the city. So I would say yes to park!

Hmmm $110? I feel like the info is not accurate based on piece counts. I also feel like this might be more like Fairground set.

I wish Lego would release through Icons or Ideas a detailled, era-styled train station that would match the Orient Express and Emerald Night in style. Also, because I wasn't convinced by the two train stations sets produced through Bricklink (Studgate and Brick Cross).

Posted

The more I am thinking about an Icons Haunted House, the mroe I’m hoping it woudl be a 0.5-baseplate modualr buidling card on the piece counts. It would be cool to have a run-down, abandoned house in middle of modular city.

However, i have read Reddit and some of them speculate it could be a microsacle set or a new “Halloween town” lineup (similiar to Winter Village). I wil like to see more details about that set as septepmber gets closer.

Yes, that's a good call. Or the microscale or village option. Maybe a shame, but at the same time a lot of fun could be had with any of those options.

Agreed, that would be great. I liked both stations, but Studgate felt too large while Brick Cross felt too small.

Brick Cross' predecessor, the Meeting Point, felt like a really good solution. The platform would just have to be a bit longer.

I think it's much better than having the tracks on the back from a marketing point of view.

webp

Elevated tracks, maybe perpendicular to the sidewalk, would also work well from a modular point of view, but then people would have to elevate their whole train layout.

I love that model so much. It looks amazing and the angles make it feel so real. The tower could probably do with being a bit taller and more detailed, but I think it nails the scale and feeling of size, without it having to go deeper than a baseplate, which is very helpful.

The original proposition of Brick Cross certainly looks more interesting both for its building techniques and its display value.

I was hoping that the Grand Central Station on Ideas got approved for production, but sadly it didn't make the review process. Although, looking back on it, it feels a bit too boring for modular standards now due to its perfect symmetry. A mix between that one for the height and Brick Cross for the glass roof and side buildings would be great though.
