BrickFit26 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Now that the Arkham Asylum has been leaked as an inverted modular compatible with the modular line from the looks of it. Would it fit with the modular line? Quote
hikouki Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Looks like it. Bigger question is what set will they follow up to this, hence the decision to make it modular? They de-modularized the Italian Riviera. Quote
RichardGoring Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I can only see one connection point on the left of the Arkham Asylum, leading me to think that the other is on the opposite side, and it's not a true interested corner, in LEGO's view. The broken fence and watch tower at that side could feasibly by at the front and not connected to anything. I eagerly await now photos of the neck and inside. Quote
Lion King Posted July 23 Posted July 23 I wonder if Lego is testing this Arkham Aslyum as a “true” inverted corner buidling so they could try with offfical Modular Building in future? Quote
BrickFit26 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Interesting. Official pics of the Asylum will give us a better view. @hikoukii think they also demodularized the riviera because of the lego ideas policy of having building but not being modularized. Quote
mcbbvb Posted July 24 Posted July 24 The connection points are on the back on both sides. Not even sure if the one connection points on the left is supposed to be a connection point. Quote

Would it fit with the modular line? I don’t think it’s really an inverted modular. The connection points are not all in place for that. They are in place to make it a normal modular corner, however. Having now looked at the official images, and the 360 video on Lego.com, its got big holes in the wall designed to look like blast damage, but no bricks to make up those gaps. Also almost the entire of the rear side is designed to be pulled out in 6 panels, to access 6 of the cells. A great play feature, but makes it more difficult to site in a modular town. Quote
hikouki Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I’m really very interested in how Lego will make use of the “modularity“ of this set. I mean, with (hopefully) follow up sets, how will those sets connect to this one? Quote

That's a curiosity of mine as well, maybe there are other wings or buildings that are supposed to connect within the theme? Or is it more intended to be a standalone corner end of the street sort of deal that people add to their cities. Quote
Lion King Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Yeah it dones’t look like an inverted corner at all, which it’s a bummer. It would be a cool experiment for Lego to do that befor they start with Modular Building collection. Quote

Did you notice that on one of the lifestyle photos, Lego left the technic pins sticking out? I don't think they did that with previous modulars. Are they teasing us on something? Quote

On Boutique Hotel and Police Station, they didn't have the technic pins in any of the photos except the ones where they demonstrate it's modular. On the Bookshop, the technic pins were sticking out but only in the video. Quote
Jdrewg Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Connection points? Who needs ‘em. They’re a total pain when you add or move stuff around. I lock mine using tiles on the sidewalk, and/or stuff in the back. LEGO almost always has studs showing in the back. I made my own inverted corner out of two Friends Botanical Garden sets (of course just before the Ideas set was announced) but went beyond 32 modules to fit within my city. I’ll post photos later. hikouki Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Just for fun, I wonder what modulars is Lego likely to never produce? - Zoo (they have only been making natural habitats for City) - Aquarium/ Oceanarium - Abattoir (I wonder if they might make a meat shop though. LOL) - Bar Quote

Also, the Bricklink one doesn't count!) - Hospital (not able to be done well enough to satisfy everyone without missing something considered important... unless it's four XL baseplates big or something!) - Construction site (people will be upset they can't complete the building. Also, the Bricklink one doesn't count for this either.) - Taxidermist (self-explanatory) - Gun shop (also self-explanatory) - Liquor store (need I say it a third time?) Elysiumfountain Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) - Cathedrals/Churches/Religious Buildings (Notre Dame doesn't count, historical/non-modular/Architecture line) - Funeral Home (Do minifigs even need funerals?) Edited August 18 by Elysiumfountain Spelling error Quote
Yoggington Posted August 18 Posted August 18 A question for anyone that has a permanent display - what building do you find best to place to the left and the right of Downtown Diner? Try as I might, nothing looks good to my eye. It's just so out of sync with everything, and the unusual left wall doesn't suit going beside anything, or being at the end of a row. Any ideas? (Pictures appreciated) Quote

(Pictures appreciated) I have the Detectives office on one side and then a 50s car wash and music store that Bricky Bricks did on LEGO ideas that I pieced together. I like the Detectives office as it has that Americana downtown feel that is similar to the Downtown Diner, and I think the tan building part of D fits nicely with the DO. I have the Palace Cinema next as it also has Americana vibes, but less so, and it's so large in comparison that it might look odd directly next to it. Quote

Could do it if they're realistic about what to include. Think cottage hospital. I'm going to mod NHM into one, substituting the olive green with white. 14 hours ago, Murdoch17 said: - Liquor store (need I say it a third time?) Well we've had a prohibition bar and a pub, each pretending not to be so it's not an impossiblity. Not likely either though, there's not a lot interesting about them. Quote
Lion King Posted August 20 Posted August 20 - Nightclub (stripper stuff….) - Brewery - Haunted Manor - Slaughterhouse - Cemetry (do minifigures really need funeral house?) - Mosque/Synanague/Catheral Quote

(Pictures appreciated) I agree that this is bit of an odd wall to put anything against. We have a few simple 8x32 modules (a bicycle path and an alley with phone booth) that we use for walls like these. If you use one next to the Diner and another one somewhere else in the row, you don't break any 16-wide grid pattern that might bugger up your road plate layout. Quote
Lion King Posted August 20 Posted August 20 About Downtown Diner, issue, I placed it between Jazz Club and Police Station. I think they look okay, although I haven’t built Corner Garage yet. Downtown Diner doens’t look great next to Natural History Museum, Parisian Restaurant, Boutique Hotel at all. However, I don’t think Diner’s extneral staircase looks out of place with Jazz Club and Police Station. Quote
