I know some other have also received the letter.

So far this was not the case for my Dunechaser, and by now I guess it won't be anymore.

Don't believe on the weight argument as none of these is worse in that respect, than the Unimog itself.

Nevertheless I plan to continue releasing information about some of the Dunechaser details next week, regardless of the result. :classic:

Wonder why the contest phase #1 is still open for us to vote, if they have already taken the decisions.

Congratulations to those getting into the next phase!

Congratulations to all those who have already reached the finals! Whatever model wins, I hope it brings new combinations of part/colour, but not exotic colours for which there is little quantity of other parts to MOC with!

For example, for me blue, green and orange are great; medium blue, dark green and tan not so much.

Oh, and speaking of part/colour combos, this is an opportunity to help Jennifer Clark:

I see Lego still don't have 1x7 thin liftarms in white, even after all these years :-)

Yeah, I'm also very surprised that neither the quad nor the Dunechaser made it to the shortlist. They were easily two of the best designs (imo), and also got a lot of votes.

We don't know the final results yet, but several factors may lead into less expected results. :sceptic:

For example:

- The Quadbike

Used several discontinued parts. Of course I do not see this as a problem, since the designers team could easily replace them by actual ones.

Although they may want to make the minimum changes as possible!?

Just seen the Quadbike was also selected! Congratulations hrontos! :classic:

- The Dunechaser - Here I've more insights to talk about, off course. :classic:

I see many factors that may lead into a "disqualification".

  • I've changed the tires because I believe the Unimog ones fit better. Easy and reasonable change, but they may think differently!?
  • Too much value in a set due to extra PF elements. 1 M-motor, +1 IR Receiver, 2 PF light sets, Eventual replacement of the remote for more expensive one. Although they wanted to see which extra functions were were able to include into the proposal (of course extra functions do not necessarily mean motorized ones).
  • Transparent panels look difficult to produced (don't imagine why as LEGO has to many transparent and even larger parts). - Will show you them soon!... :cry_happy:
  • Too many panels in new colors!? 5-6 new blue panels. The 8 in DBG were proposed as optional and could be replaced with existing LBG ones.
  • It may turn difficult to produce 80.000 decorated tires. I admit it, but this would be really the exclusive items they seem to be looking for. It could be also something to drop he it was decided so.
The exclusiveness menu was a set of different proposals and possibilities to chose from. Not necessarily all of them.
Although the decorated tires are possible to produce, by manual, automatic or semi-automatic means with minimum costs
  • The weight doesn't seem to be as excuse. The Unimog uses the same suspension absorbers and as far more weighting over the suspension and it is also taller.
  • Maybe their trained eye, make them think the model is difficult to build?
  • Something else...

All in all we are not those we decide here, neither who knows the motivations behind the hard decisions. :classic:

Like you said before, they could have easily replaced old parts with updated ones. Everyone knows that the designers will rework the models anyways. Sounds like they are making excuses, just like the whole Cuusoo experiment.

As long as the 10 finalists aren't up at LEGO's website, I still hope the Dunechaser made it through. It was the best entry!

Thank you for all your support that helped the quad bike to get to finals. You made me happy. Even if it will not win, I am happy with being selected.

I was waiting that these days we will know more entries going to the finals. At least 5 of EB member's entries I expected to be selected. Of course I am by no means an expert on technic sets or the TLG plans and production and so I have no rights to judge or comment.

I thought that technic team will justify the entries. Like if decorated tires should be the complicated part of the Dunachaser, that can simply say without decorated tires. Or if it should be the motorized winch in case of some entries, they can say no motor for winch. Or if the color is expensive to produce, they can say no orange but red. They reserved the right to make necessary modifications so such justification is logical to me.

It will be kind of disappoinment if the entries copying jeep or landrover or other standard designs were selected since it was in rules that it should not be copies of any design.

Congratz to all who were chosen. So the next stage will be 9th of January?

Anyone have any idea how much will these be? only 20k sets. Might be very pricy.

Voting should start on the 9th of January. TLG should produce 20 000 of these sets and since it was announced as a PR project for fans and not as real money maker may be it will not be that expensive. So everybody hopes for price range similar to original crawler with some nice parts as added value.

Any idea when it will be released though? I would not mind having second crawler :D

The finals are now opened.

funny thing is my model had the most votes, over 300, but wasnt selected... I guess the tracks proved to be too advanced.
