Pat-Ard Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 @Zblj: Do you have some pictures? Is it still 4WD? Does the front axle need the redesign? THANKS! Pat Quote
Zerobricks Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 So first i removed the normal black beams in the back and replaced them with shorter ones in order to gain room for the XL motor. The motor was also attached on the bottom via some 2x4L beams and a connector. The gear ratio on the rear axle was changed from 16:16 to 8:24. Also i used longer axles in order to additionally stabilize wheels. In the front axle i removed the 3/4 pins and used the half stud offset connectors to move the the steering pivot point half a stud back. I also used a 6L axle in the front hubs for less wheel wobbling: in the cab i used the 20:12 gear ratio combination two times and attached M motor: And of course i used an receiver attached to the battery box to make the truck come alive. And thats about it! Quote
Pat-Ard Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks Zblj for the detailed pictures. I'll try it - have to get a XL Motor. And then I have to remove the air tank. Why didn't you uses the new Servomotor for the steering? Pat Quote
Pat-Ard Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 OK, that's a reason Thanks again... Pat Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I just put the XL under the back wheel axle, now I can have the bed tip side ways. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) Hi there, just finished motorizing my Unimog. Used a XL-motor for driving and the new servo for steering. Works goods so far. Only had some issues with the knob wheels on the steering. Does anyone have a hint where the place the IR receiver. Oh, and one more thing. Now is the IR receiver connected the the battery pack but the M-motor for PF and PPF not, because it would drive the whole time while driving. What could be done? Eigenbroetler Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi My name is Eddy and im 31 years old and im from Sweden, just left the dark ages, its been 20 years since i bought a lego set until now when i first bought 8275 Bulldozer, and then i bought 2 of 8110 Unimog. i guess im a slow builder, the first unimog i built by the book, it took 12 hours. but it was fun! Here is my first technic "mod" ever, i didnt have so much technic as a child. I have only extended the Mog and addad an extra axle for 6x6 action. Added an air tank for more playability and i have made it PF controlled with an XL motor for driving and a M motor for steering, the steering is geared down to 15:1. The driving is only changed in the portal axles, to 8-24 instead of 16-16 The next step will be adding one more XL for driving, and making a dual cylinder compressor for it, Well i hope you enjoy these bad cellphone pics, and i hope my work isnt all that bad, but hey, as i said, its my first big technic set ever, and my first mod/moc ever. Pat-Ard Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi Eigenbroetler, welcome on Eurobricks... Your Unimog looks very nice... I already added a second pump for the pneumatics, it's really easy... Pat Quote
Gene Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Welcome Eddy, great achievement from your first moc! Quote
stefan_betula_pendula Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Great first modification and also an enrichment for the community because there aren't so many Unimog 6x6 out there! @ Pat: What does the abbreviation PPF mean? Edited January 20, 2013 by stefan_betula_pendula Quote

mike4slund Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 here is my steering solution, just used the new steering servo. removed a few beams and tada!! it works great, even when the model is not moving. Even has full suspension travel like before.. only problem i need to fix is that the front axle assy is one stud further to the front and rubs when turning when the crane is attached to the front. Pat-Ard Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Hi Mike, welcome to Eurobricks. Your solution looks even better than mine. I try it myself tonight. Thanks... Pat Quote

Pat-Ard Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Hi mike, just tried it... I didn't leave it. I prefer the version with the servo in the cab... Pat Quote
mike4slund Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Hi mike, just tried it... I didn't leave it. I prefer the version with the servo in the cab... Pat i didnt like that way much, thanks for trying my way tho. i will be leaving the motor in the cab tho and using it for something else. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 yyyyyiiiiiihhhhaaaaa... I managed to place the servo directly on the front axle... Without the modifications mike made... The steering is perfect!!! Even if standing the steering works... Pat Quote
stefan_betula_pendula Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Great! I tried to use the servo motor in the cab but the whole drive drain is to long to get a reasonable movement directly at the axle. I also tried to gear up the servo motor but this was also a failure... Quote
Tim S. Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 @Pat: Well done. I think that is the best way. The more gears the more shaky is the steering. rgds Tim Quote
Pat-Ard Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 It's really easy to do. There are some little modification atbthe steering and at the chassis, there you need to replace the black 15 beams with 13. and the connection between them needs to be removed. Pat Quote
