Strider Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I am quite new with Lego Technic and just recently build the 8052 Container Truck. I`d like to modify it so i can drive and stear it using PF. Has anyone done this on this Truck or a similar one? Do you think it is possible? Will the small motors from the excavator be enough to drive it or will i need larger ones (where can i get larger ones?) Thanks a lot! Quote
AndroTech Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 There are few modifycations on Youtube. Here is one of them: You can also check some Brickshelf folders for some informations. Quote

The XL motor has only appeared in two technic sets (and some trains and creator and separate addon from lego). It is the bulldozer 8275 and the crane truck 8258. Flagship models. If you can't spend that much money I would recommend buying a single one from some bricklink store. http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?itemID=75170 Quote
Strider Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 In fact it is not too difficult (with a little help:-) ) This video shows the modifications and was a lot of help. The key is to move the container motor so you have enough space for the drive motor. I changed it a bit because i did not have all the parts (the only other parts i had are from the excavator)but now it works reasanably well, very nice modell Quote
imajor Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 (edited) I managed to motorize the switch function too. Propulsion is 6x4 with two diffs. Edited December 18, 2011 by imajor Quote
bord4kop Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 These are really sweet mods! The container truck is a fairly good set, worth the money (around €50 here) IMO. Remote controlled makes it really nice to play with! Any chance on instructions guys? Quote
timslegos Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Wow that switching mechanism is genius! nice job. tim Quote

imajor Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks, this photos helped a lot. One more doubt, could you explain how do you do to switch to load/unload the container or up/down the container? []s Flavio I removed the original mechanism which controlled the lock, and added a motor which simply rotates that thing to lock the platform. The motor is not directly attached to that axis, two 8t gears are connecting them. The motor was too strong, so I added a double friction pin to make it weaker, like in 8043. You can see that here Quote

Now I understood. Thanks again. Quote
