I just received the pieces to complete the first two cars of my 6-wide NYC-style subway!

I bought 2 copies of set 76321 "Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock Subway Train Scene" for 64€ as a base.  I managed to sell the minifigures for 26€, so it was actually quite affordable. The only major thing missing for the doors were more 1x2x3 train windows (3233) and some 2x4 jumper plates (65509), which I ordered from PaB.

Eventually I want to build a third carriage, motorise it with the 9V system and run it under my yet-to-be-built LEGO city.

In the background of the first photo, you can see my version of Yoggington's tunnel portal.

The inset doors really add a lot of depth to the original set. I also removed the axle holes for a more streamlined look.

The carriages are connected by ball joints and chains. They are just long enough to allow the train to go through R40 curves.

The roof is fairly simple to make it fit into tight tunnels.

One section of the roof can be taken off to access the interior.

The front of the train is almost unchanged compared to the original set, only the headlight assembly is different.

Another close-up of the doors and the ribbed metal side panels.

I just love those classic train windows! I wish LEGO would still produce the 4-wide variant.

There are cabs on both sides as you would expect (except for the switched up headlight tiles, I just noticed that...). I'm still trying to figure out a good way to add LED lights.

LEGO Subway Train - Rear

The interior features bench seats. In the original set, they were a bit too deep for my taste, so replaced the bottom half with modified plates with door rails (32028).

LEGO Subway Train - Passenger Compartment

The cab has to be very compact to make space for the doors, but I'm quite happy with it.

A slightly outdated version of the Studio file for the train can be found on Rebrickable.
