[request] Save Posts As Draft

Hi,

When I make a long thread or reply I often don't have all the pieces together yet, so I do as much of it as I can, however I just have to kind of pray that the thread of reply wont disappear because I have not clicked "post" yet, since I need to gather other pieces of it first.

A way to make this no loner be a problem would to be able to save posts as a draft, I'm sure we used to have this option before several server upgrades but I can;t seem to find an option for that at the minute

This is probably a big ask,unless the code to do it is there, just not the button in the forum

For me it is caching the reply field on refresh. Possibly test it in a not-relevant topic or just for your next reply here. (ideally just put a word and hit f5, should work).

For new topics there may be no caching mechanism available - for those cases I would possibly recommend to write up the text in a local editor.

Edit: @Jim I just have checked some permissions and "hiding own content" on user level would be possible - can you remember if that was set in the past for users?

This would not allow a direct "Save Draft" button or anything, but for new topics one could create it as hidden and just release it when the quality is felt right.

I believe it depends - when I was writing some elaborate replied or longer posts, and wanted to insert a link etc. I frequently press "back", instead of opening a new tab and work from there. Going back again to EB (screaming DAMIT), scrolling down and clicking "Reply to this ..." brings up, what I typed in before and asks me whether I want to continue or start over. Press the "X" and continue ... but there are occasions, when that did not work. My fault I believe, I just need to focus, I guess.

Same for me. Works most of the time, very occasionally it doesn't.
Can always type & save it in a Notepad file, that's what I always do on long replies that I need to gather info for.

I have to admit I am not sure where or how  the post-caching is happening exactly - from the occational misses I would believe that any browser is holding a connection via AJAX to the server backends (same which is responsible for notifications to be sent to the client-device) & the values may be cached on the server side. 

As I am not sure about their implementation I would believe they have thought of people having more than one tab in their browser open for cache-values not being overwritten from one reply-field of one topic towards another or vice versa.. :D
