Midnight Valley Collection

Lego is introducing a new subtheme under Icons called the Midnight Valley Collection.  It appears to be themed around Halloween similar to Winter Village.  The first set will be 11383 Mayor Manor releasing September 1, 2026.  It will be minifigure scale.  Those that are interested might also want to get 40822 the Jack-O'-Lantern Pickup Truck as it is supposed to retire this year.

With the success of the Winter Village line, Lego should have done this five years ago.  If they pour some creativity into these sets, I think they'll prove to be very fun to build and collect.  It'll be interesting to see if they do some kind of a GWP that ties into the new line.  I always love those GWP's that work as part of the Winter Village.

I have loads of ideas for the kinds of sets that would be fun for this concept. I hope they do something like these:

• Witches' Cottage with Garden (maybe with a monster plant)
• Pumpkin House with family of Pumpkinheads
• Graveyard Jamboree with skeleton musicians
• Mummy Pyramid Cottage with mini-pyramid for their jackal and obelisk birdhouse for their vulture
• Town Hearse (public transportation) with headless driver
• Costume Shop with spooky proprietors

The Winter Village sets seem to come in two flavors--real world locations, or riffs on the Santa mythology. Halloween has a lot more associated variety.

2.) Witch’s Cottage (not happen until Sanderson’s cottage is retired)

I cna imagine Midnight Valley Colleciton is going to be hybrid of supernatural and real-world aspects like Winter Village. For example, Santa’s Worksp and Elf Clubhouse with Santa and elves that are very fantasy while we have Firestation and Toy Store without fantasy elements. I feel like Midnight Valley will have so many supernatural elements in some sets while others will be more real-world like trick-or-treaters visiting an ordinary or costume store.  It might be a success.

I like the ramshackle look of the building and will be interested to see the interior details. The minfigs don't look particularly creepy though unlike the old Haunted House which had a Frankenstein's Monster butler and zombie cook.

I hope the depth of the build is not that shallow like Holiday Main Street set as the picture seems like the build is very thin.

It looks like the center of the lower level is 6 studs deep at the interior, the upper floor looks to be 4 studs. The right side (looking from the outside) utilizes 1 x 4 swivel hinge plates to create an odd angle so not sure how that affects depth on that side. Overall what I expected size-wise...not sure about execution (no pun intended). I think I need to see next year's to judge how cohesive the theme is. This is a wait and see for me.

They might look better once we have some better images.

The figures glow in the dark!....dang, that's an upgrade for me. I wasn't sure about the brick-built tree, they always look weird and sparse to me, but it is awfully effective here. Ugh am I starting another collection?

I like it! It's a little small but it feels like a nice "foundation" for the start of an ongoing series.

I'm loving the design of the actual house, with the textured stonework and off-kilter bits like it's actively falling apart. I understand people preferring full builds over facades but for me, for something that's only going to be a seasonal display rather than a playable concept, this is very nice!

I like how the Mayor Manor looks! I don’t think depth fo the interior would bother me at all. I think that tree looks more creepy!

But i ‘m puzzled about one thing - its price. The rumor says it’s $110 but the website said it/s $120.

I like the set overall.  I imagine over the years we'll see some variety in the depth of the build and the overall building configuration, but they'll follow the general format of a nice facade and an open back.  The front looks great, but as shallow as the sides are, I'm surprised they didn't put a bit more detail there.  The sides are rather unappealing, but it's not constructed in such a way that you would anticipate putting another building right up next to it, thus hiding the side of the building.  I think the side are a misstep here.  The GITD aspect of the minifigs is lost on me - it's a nice gimmick, but I question if it lasts the entire life of this collection (which will hopefully be lengthy).  But the appearance of the building is so well done that it seems to redeem any shortcomings.  I'll definitely be picking this up and starting a new collection!  

I think I might have to pick up the 40822 Jack-o-lantern pickup truck to help fill out the village, too

I suspect the GITD faces are meant to indicate that these are ghosts, so whether it carries into future sets depends on whether it's meant to be an all-ghost village or if other Halloween figures will also be present.

One thing that immediately came to mind is that there are other 'holidays' or seasonal traditions that Lego celebrates such as Easter. I have to admit, it is harder to come up with a long list of buildings that could be populated by minifigs for that line, but they could always get creative. At any rate, I'm hoping that with the "Christmas/ Winter" and "Halloween" themes, that there will be more!

Yeah..."Easter Village" isn't really a thing. I think a fairy village would be a more likely identity for a springtime lineup with lots of flowers and pastel colors.

2) DDLM is within the season.  I am secretly hoping for something easy to MOC for a couple of Disney CMFs.

1.) Who is Jonas? I think fairy village sounds lovely!! But i feel like fairy concept also falls into autumn and winter too as we saw tinker Bell movies - we saw fall, summer and winter fairies.  

2.) Sure, Halloween on Oct 31 and Day of the Dead on Nov 1 are back to back but they are seperate. 
 

Day of the Dead is only celebrated in Mexico andd parts of the USA while Halloween is celebrated in worldwide. And I’m sure Mexicans object that Day of the Dead is not Halloween.

Jonas Kramm designed the Mushroom Village sets for the Bricklink Designer program. I have one of them--delightful concept! You're right that a fairy village can express any season, not just spring. But there aren't really any strong culturally recognizable themes for a springtime village apart from fairies.

Not everyone in those other countries appreciates this imposition of American culture. Likewise, some Mexicans (and Mexican-Americans) are fine with the conflation of Halloween with Dia de Los Muertos, while others would prefer to keep them distinct. I am not Mexican, but I think keeping them distinct preserves both, while treating DDLM like "Mexican Halloween" risks erasing its uniqueness and especially the more sentimental elements.

1.) Ahhh that Mushroom Village sets!!  And yes, i feel like fairy village can have four seasons, rather than springtime alone. I don’t know how Lego do the Conroe of “Easter Field” - bunny, eggs, and chicks. Nothing else. I guess four-season fairy village is wider audience is a better way.

3.) Yes I know about the owing of origin of Halloween. I’m not jsut saying how Lego can do that DDLM sets as part of Midnight Valley. We have traditoanl Chinese festivals (no longer lunar new year). Like TCF sets, I feel DDLM should have its own series as Halloween and Christmas have their own collections. My old college rommate is Mexican-American and he is not happy when he heard DDLM as part of Halloween. I guess we shoudlu not speak for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans but let them speak themselves.

That would be cool, but I'd also say a ghost train would be nice too. One that can run on tracks would be especially nice..... unlike the 14-year old Monster Fighters one that cant!
