Why some lego ships have it and others don't? None of the Barrcudas have it.

Do you find it useful for kids to play in the carpet?

I don't use them in their intended use, but my MOCs also aren't designed to be played with by children. I also don't have any carpet in my house. My kids are already playing with Lego, but so far they are mostly only interested in things with wheels.

I think they are there not just for play value but also to protect the hull pieces from scratching too much. If ye do build models with prefab hulls, these pieces serve as additional connection. However, ye can easily omit them from any build. The piece itself has been around since 1991 which explains why the original BSB does not have it. To further answer yer question, the 2020 version had to be taken apart, if it required these pieces after the assembly, it would have been rather useless.

I second what Jack said, and I use them on every ship I made so far.
