I’d love to hear about the LEGO sets you’ve built recently! What set did you enjoy the most, and why? Did you make any custom modifications or MOCs? I’m always looking for inspiration for my next build and would love to see what’s sparking creativity in the community.

I recently did some building on my 6990 Futuron Monorail. I think it is one of the best sets ever made and I love to operate the monorail train and transport cargo between the stations. I had to change the cable that connects the battery box to the motor to a new one I ordered from Bricklink. I mentioned this because it is one of my absolute favorite sets. I already wanted it as a kid and when my parents were going to buy it, it was recently discontinued. That was in the very early 90s and I thought that I'll never get it. I bought it later when I was 18 from Bricklink with money from my first job. Some sets that I have built from scratch recently is my Christmas present 1252 Shell Tanker, I got it new (I love my family). I built it on Christmas Eve and I have also recently built 21349 Tuxedo cat which looks almost like my cat. My cat finds the Tuxedo Cat weird and likes to hit it with his paws when I hide it behind pillows so that only the head is visible.

Cats are the best !

Last set I have build was the new Black Pearl. Got it on day one . Sold the  2 gwp's to make it more affordable. So I paid €285 than. A more acceptable price.

Building it was more fun than I thought. Not as easy because everything is black. First time I appreciate that there were a lot of colored bricks inside so it's easier to follow. Fun canon and ruther mechanics.

Next set I'm waiting for is the Speed Champions Delorean.

I'm in the middle of building the tuxedo cat right now after getting it for Christmas. When I'm done, probably gonna build it in Stud.io to make a parts list for an all black version, so it looks like my own cat. Got some 3D printed whiskers to go with it too.
(on a side note, kinda wish the cheerful cat from the December Lego ads was for sale too)

Also trying to do some more serious modding to the Icons Delorean, and some subtle details to the Icons ECTO-1.

@SpacePolice89Did you do any modding to the monorail set or keeping it as is? It's one of my favorites too now and I was lucky to get it as a kid (considering how expensive it was). Ironically I didn't appreciate it as much back then, because I was really interested in the bigger spaceships at the time
(still wanna do that mod I did in Stud.io to build it with the taller canopies, probably in BT2 color scheme)

If you build an all black one please share a picture of it. My cat is a tuxedo cat but with a different pattern. When I was younger we had a tuxedo cat that looked almost exactly like the set. I also like the cat from the ad and it would make a great set. For me the Futuron monorail is almost a holy set so I wouldn't change it in any other way than expanding the tracks. I looked at pictures of it in catalogs for hours and dreamed about acquiring it one day. In my old schoolbooks I used to draw pictures of it when I was bored. In the picture is the monorail before I changed the cable. The new cable looks almost the same but there are some minor differences (not visible when connected) because I believe the new one is from the mid 00s.

I still have some small leaflets that I used to look at and dream

@SpacePolice89 Interesting what you say about the cables... Because the cable on your picture isn't the original cable of that set already either. The 6990 first Monorail was the only set with cable part 5306ac015 where the 2x2 connectors were only 1/3th brick thick. Every other set using this system got the newer cable 5306bc015 with 2/3th thick connectors that I see on your picture.

I'm going black & white on the Monorail train but I suppose it can be done all black as well. I just really love the taller canopies from M-Tron and Space Police, that's why I decided on the Blacktron II color scheme. That also made complete coverage of the white motor car less mandatory (but in the end I still succeeded in covering it decently well).
I wanted to stick as close as possible to the original train model, aside from a slightly elevated studless roof (which allows me to hide the cable and power button), and the longer front end because of the canopy, as well as the taller side windows that exist in neon green. Luckily the battery box exists in black from the Space Police ship that had the 9V flashlights.

I bought the set used so the previous owner maybe changed it but the cable with the thicker brick is listed as being introduced in 1987 and as an alternate part for 6990 on Bricklink.

I have also planned to buy parts and build monorail trains for other factions like SP 1 and M-Tron. In Idea book 260 there is a SP 1 monorail.

I uploaded this picture to Brickshelf which is working again (login and uploading has been reintroduced!) and I'm very happy about that.

Although it came out some months ago, I only recently got and built Fantastic Four vs Galactus. I felt it was overpriced at its RRP and waited for it to be discounted significantly which it eventually was on Amazon.

I made some mods including yellowising Galactus' face, thickening his feet (his boots as sold look like flip-flops), improving the minifigures with LEGO and third-party parts, and adding a couple of additional minifigures: a LEGO Doctor Doom and third party Silver Surfer.

I don't have the Futuron Monorail but as a CS fan myself, I totally get the appeal. I hope we see some minifigure scale CS love from LEGO in 2026.

Something similar to the new Galaxy Explorer would be fantastic. The new GE is my favorite set made during the last 25 years.

The last years have been really good, first the GE, then the Blacktron Cruiser and the Renegade. All three sets are something I've dreamt about since the mid 90s. A return of true Space sets with original minifigs. Now we need SP 1 and Futuron remakes in the same style.

The baby scale never appealed to me, and I wanna keep everything in the same scale.
I love the GE too. I still consider getting some more since I've seen some awesome bigger builds of it (but space at home might become an issue), and a Blacktron version would be very possible too with the same canopies and the new Renegade's computer tiles.
I'd love to see a remake of the Space Police Mission Commander. I loved that ship (but never owned it), and I loved the SP1 color theme. It had some unique functionality with the buggy riding out the front, but that can be done a lot better nowadays (maybe even using some Technic) without wasting as much space, creating passenger space for more officers and/or a mission control center in the middle.

@SpacePolice89 I remember that SP1 monorail train from the Ideas Book, I just wasn't a fan. I tend to be very strict on using the right colors for factions and a white motor car in a SP1 train just bugs the hell outta me. Odd they didn't at least use the black battery box from the SP1 Striker. Thought of a prisoner transport train but the universal cells are too big for my taste. Maybe an M-Tron transport for workers and tools.
I agree with the GE and Renegade being among the best sets during the last years. Can't say I feel that way about the cruiser, I'm finding the old one superior.

I also like the old Blacktron Cruiser more but I think that the new one is different enough for them to be displayed together (that goes for all the new Space sets which is great). The original was one of my first sets ever. I like both sets very much.

SP1 and BT1 are my absolute favorites, both ships and minifigs.
I love the BT2 colors too, but it didn't feel right for them to carry the name "Blacktron" imho. Had it been another working/mining/science division in between M-Tron and Ice Planet, it would have worked a lot better for me.
