It only took me about one day to get bored during the pre-Christmas time, so I decided to start yet another project - this time, however, at least a smaller one :sweet:

After a few (unfinished, of course) cars, I'm back with some farming equipment, specifically a Porsche tractor.

At first I felt a bit skeptical about functions as the model wasn't going to be particularly large and I did not intend to compromise the look, therefore I went for the cutest, single-cylinder variant called Junior, as the smaller engine provides a little more space to work with.

Functions implemented so far:

  • Front wheel steering via steering wheel
  • Pendular front axle
  • Single-cylinder engine - driven by the rear axle via a 2-speed gearbox
  • Rear PTO with neutral - driven by the rear axle
  • Rear three-point hitch

At the moment, around 550 parts are used - there are some quite detached or not so well supported sections, though.

While the current bonnet might not have the exact same curves compared to the original, I like the use of the single-piece windscreen.

The current state of progress (after I've realized that the old 2L gearbox rings are not compatible with the fairly new clutch gear sizes :look:):

And the layout of all mechanical functions:

Thanks for visiting & Enjoy the Christmas time :pir-santa:

Very cool! One of my favorite things is the one module offset the 20:16 gear connection provides. I love how it is used twice here to add in some great functionality.

And isn't there really parts to make tip front of bonnet more rounded?

There indeed are ways to make the top significantly more curved (e.g. using quarter dome parts), however I am not sure about the overall seamlesness of the front if done so.

Front axle uses a pair of these wheels, there hasn't been any narrower variant, has it? I might've confused it with another wheel/tire combo, though.

Sorry, with that cover looked like some other. Then just, maybe, Vespa wheels, but they are larger in diameter.

Brilliant little tractor, especially capturing the iconic form!

The front really is a tricky bit, als the upper shaping is more curved but flattens out quikly. You picket the right compromise with the large windscreen piece in my opinion.

About the wheel: If we would get the new big motorcycle tires with chevron or offroad-pattern for back wheels, then the old small motorcycle tires as front tires would be matching the size. But it would be hell of a big model :D

At least this is not another 911.
This tractor looks very good, mechanics looks smooth working and compact! Waiting for the MOC to be finished!

When I saw the headline, I did not know what to expect. Safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It's nice to see some farm machinery and especially when it's as functional as yours. Now if there was only a way to get thinner front wheels...

Alright, even though designing this model took me only 4 days, I haven't updated this topic for much longer.

A few areas have been slightly optimised during the test build, though functionality remains mainly unchanged.

  • Steering via steering wheel
  • Pendular front axle
  • Single-cylinder engine driven by the rear axle
  • Two-speed gearbox operated via a lever on the steering column
  • Working PTO with a neutral (operated by a lever)
  • Rear three-point hitch (small LA)
  • Removable hood enabled access to the engine

There might be instructions if there's someone interested.

To do / issues:

  • Improve a few steps in the instructions, as there's at least one tricky part during the assembly process
  • Rigid hoses require quite some force to bend, I'm using a metal wire to fix their bent shape, not sure whether that would be acceptable for others, who would potentially build it
  • PTO lever using the newer 2L selection ring (2473) slides on the normal 2L axle connector freely (it's not fixed in place in either of two positions)
  • For some reason the piston doesn't run smoothly. It somewhat looks as the crankshaft fits too tight into studded technic structures, which implies uneven friction during rotation. I have experimented with different units, multiple colors, new x old variants and there just doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. I'd be glad if someone could test this and verify that the issue comes from the parts' geometry - thanks in advance!

Fantastic build. You nailed the look. I find on these old tractors the rear fenders are hard to get right. And even though the parts are rare as @Timewhatistime said, they are a great solution for this applicaiton.

Great job.

Wow, that's a very refined-looking model!

The red fender pieces are very rare. They appeared in only two or three official sets.

Looks like only one--the 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger! Luckily they don't seem particularly expensive used

Yes, you are absolutely right!

@Michael217 I do get your concern, especially when looking at the image you've posted.

There were multiple versions produced, one of them being the L (long wheelbase). From a quick search, your photo looks to be depicting this specific wheelbase, though my model is based on a standard one.

Apart from that, there seem to be a few differencies between every single photographed unit, as I couldn't find two exactly same looking ones.

Although not being the exact photo I've used when designing (I've imported it to Studio, forgot the source, and have no idea whether it can be somehow exported to show you *huh*), to me the wheelbase and overall proportions don't look that off.

I see, thanks for the additional information.
