I gotta say I like it! Not enough to buy it (haven't bought any of the cars in this series), but I like it. It's such a classic car, and I think the color scheme pulls off the look well. There's just something about classic race cars with the really meaty tires on them!

I can't say I mind the choice of rim either. The other one people are suggesting would look better (if they made the skinny one for the front), but I think the truck rims here work way better here than they do on any of the modern cars they've made in this series.

I guess the new rear tire is a plus? That diameter of truck tread tire has been used for cars an awful lot at this point, so I guess a better tread for them is nice?

Also, I haven't seen any discussion of the parts on the A-pillars. Those are new, right? Something like 1x5, with a 1 stud offset?

Knowing Lego I'd say 6 studs, for more Pythagoras Potential™.

And also the 42209 is 90€ on local finnish stores and it has over 900pcs. So the ridicilous 90€ for this doesn't make any sense.

And i did a little bit of digging for the prices.

42215 is same price in germany and finland.

42210 is 139.99€ in germany and 169.99€ in finland.

42209 is 99.99€ in germany and 119.99€ in finland.

But these sets are luckily cheaper on local finnish stores. And i buy all of the sets on finnish stores. Because ordering from lego.com doesn't make any sense because how expensive it is. Only the special exclusive stuff are worth to buy from lego.com:).

@Zerobricks, @Stereo Ok, I checked my part inventory closer and the half beams really have more pronounced shrinkage dimples. Regular beams don't look that bad, at least older pieces. I guess the half beams look worse because they are made of a different, more reflective plastic, hence also the more vibrant colors. It's also these type of parts and clip plates that have the uglier, broken sprue marks visible. So I wouldn't necessarily say the quality is good.

Milan is not the designer of this model. He said so on his Instagram.

Some others chance. This small scale looks more accurate and recognizable than the larger one with double pieces.

At the first sight it looks decent, but with the time we will be smarter (specially when discounts start...)

Nobody: Let's make a cool display car again for adults. Let's make it black so we can't mess up with the pins.

Lego: Alright, let's do it.

42223_0.png

It's easy to replace the ugly blue pin on the a-pillar by using the 2L beam version with axle hole together with a dbg 3L pin with axle which is already included in the set.

42223_1.PNG

But why. It would be too easy for the self-proclaimed market leader in quality

@Timorzelorzworz To make matters worse, these parts come in multiple color variants for the same type, so it's not even a color coding thing any more. e.g you have red and dark grey 3l pins with axle or half pins w/ friction, axles in all colors, bushes in black and red etc.
Here's the replacement part list, sadly without exact piece count in set (I hate that they removed that useful feature):

All in all this is not a bad set, personally I like it more than the 42154. It comes with many useful parts in black, atleast 7 times the new 5x2 panel.

I like how they made the door fix for this small scale to prevent the doors from tilting itself, but the a-pillars are looking flimsy without a stable triangle connection. Reviews will show soon how stable all is.

42223_2.PNG

They used the new 3L beam with center axle here to fix the doors.

@R0Sch Thanks for that list. You can find these "mistakes" in literally every new Technic sets. Almost every set today can only be improved with the own inventory items without increasing the costs. But hey why to give 100% when 80% is still enough for a world leader :)

And yes according to the inventory the 2L beam with axle is also already included, so it makes no sense to use a blue pin there. It's kind of funny that parts that makes the whole look better, are already included. Might sound harsh, but when designers or review designers don't notice something like that to improve their model with the cost of nothing, then their work may not be in the right place.

Don't be so harsh, there are only 50 blue 3L and 40 blue 2L pins with axle out of 793 in this set.
...and an extraordinary number of six 12T bevel gears. If this isn't real Technic, I don't know what is.

I like blue pins and the color-coding concept of Technic. What I don't like is when model designer (or others from the team) don't max-out their own inventory for improvements. Technic models nowadays looks like the bare minimum of effort, invested only enough to just barely meet the requirements. Where are all the overtime hours and sleepless nights? Technic lost its premium status a long time ago.

Here is cleverpig's first look video:).

Wait a second. I noticed now this is the first car transporter gang car with british steering solution(left hand drive). Hmm i thought the gt40 was a american supercar with right hand drive. So why is the gt40 left hand version, can someone explain to dummies:).

Supposedly this was an intentional decision by Carol Shelby. He reasoned that most tracks run clockwise, putting the driver on the inside of the turn would provide better balance and control.

Since American drivers struggled to shift lefthanded, the gear shifter was moved to the right of the driver instead of in the middle.

Here's the part list with the number of piece (boy was that tedious to do manually). If I counted correctly, I'm only missing 2 pieces, one of which is the sticker sheet.
Hope the creative B-model MOC'ers on this forum come up with something nicer, before this ugly thing hits the market.

Did you count the new a pillars as well:).

So there should be 2 new tires and 2 a pillars and one sticker sheet:).

@R0SchMan, you spent so much effort in this list this is insane! You have my full respect. Reminds me on your shared inventory for the 42175 months before the set was out. For a proper MOC we need also the physical version of the set, but your list helps very much for digital sketch design.

Making an almost accurate inventory in no time only from pics is next level skill on this forum. Thumbs Up.

Thanks for the compliments, but I did not count the pieces based on the pics. That would be insane! I just manually placed each element nr. one-by-one in the replacement part form until it said max.inventory for element reached. It used to be much simpler when they showed the piece count directly.

Yes, I wrote it in the corner: 4 golden rims, 2 tires and 2 a-pillars.

I think it looks quite good, compared to other sets in similar scale. It probably benefits from the all black color scheme hiding gaps and shadows from overlapping panels

Also, is that new tires really necessary? 49.5x22? Only 2mm width and tread difference with current tire?

The new tire actually solves a persistent problem in 15 stud wide cars. When a car model is scaled around the 30mm rim, the 43.2 tire, which comes with car tread and is supposed to be for cars, is too small, while the 49.5 tire fits the small wheel arch better but currently only comes with truck tread. Below is my WIP for mini 42110 Nissan Skyline, and I have to use 49.5 tires with truck tread. But thanks to the upcoming 4223, there are actually more approriate tires for my model.

Compare that with 43.2 tires to see how awkward they look.

It's really interesting that this is the first car transporter gang car with normal doors. And there seems to be a "complex" hinge solution:).

1280x1170.jpg

Found some weird thing here: The black 6L linkage is connected to a moveable lever (the thing with the red bush) inside the car.

It is not responsible for steering. But what can this be? Some slightly high-adjustable front axle? It's clearly visible that this linkage contraption is intented to be moved inside the cockpit. What is going on is unfortunately hidden under the 3x7 black panel.

AND as seen by the dbg 3L liftarms the model comes with door limiters which is pretty nice but uncommon for a model this scale.
