Probably restoring it, especially if you aren't picky if the sails are real or replicas.

Eknight

Yes. That is the best option. Thanks for the advice. I want the sails to be in very good/perfect condition so replicas will the best option. Buying original sails in that condition is very expensive and they are also hard to find. I bought replica sails from passionforbricks3 on Ebay and the missing pieces from Bricklink. I'll post more pictures when it is complete.

Well, they do look good in the photo!

His sails are great! I have bought from him before and they look fantastic and the quality is very good. The Black Seas Barracuda in the picture has sails I ordered from him.

Restore it!

I'm doing it. I have ordered the missing parts from Bricklink and new sails from Ebay. I saved a lot of money by restoring it because at the same time I ordered some missing parts for 4010 and 1888 that I got in the same lot that I bought.

I'm glad you're doing it. I think the Renegade Runner is a very underrated set. I love it. I have 6 of them, 2 of which are in their original form and the other 4 are customized. It's such a great fleet builder of a set and even though I don't need another one, I sometimes have to really resist the urge to do it.

Here are a couple pics of the Renegade Runners I've modified:

This first one I used to match the red striped sails of the Black Seas Barracuda. I also replaced a lot of the grey and red on the hull and bow for yellow, again to be reminiscent of the BSB.

The Renegade Runner also makes a nice imperial ship:

It's basically the same modification as the last, just using blue striped sails.

I did have to ask a vendor on Ebay specifically for the sails in these dimensions in these colors and I can share said vendor if anyone is interested to know.

And as much as I love being able to make my own little modifications, I really do love the Renegade Runner in its original form. I really do think it's a must-have for anyone interested in collecting these vintage pirate sets.

Should I restore this Renegade Runner I got from a lot I bought a while ago or buy a complete one?

I‘m not into Pirates, but I would always say: Restore it! Old sets are always worth it.

@SBCMayorLooks cool!

It looks fantastic with blue sails!

Thank you! The one thing I wish I could do was get that yellow bird to put on the front. That piece is extremely rare and consequently it’s a bit pricy. But overall this modification is still a cool concept.

Looks great. I bought mine in 1993 with my allowance money in the Lego shop at the Lego park Billund. Boy, I was dissapointed with the price. Thought that Lego would be cheaper in Denmark.

Thanks! When I was a kid a friend of mine had the Renegade Runner but I never had it myself until now. It is such a nice set and we used to play with it a lot back then. It feels great to finally have it.

It does look beautiful! Did you use official string from LEGO or buy some from elsewhere? I recently acquired one in a lot but I don't have any string for the rigging.

My friends and me used this ship for an 'evil' pirate faction that even steals from other pirates like the Lego pirate comic book suggested.

Now I've found a place for my Renegade Runner. Unfortunately for the pirates they are being ambushed and have to flee the coast.

Your restored ship looks great and I love the display you’ve put together here! Ironhook should have his crew turn that cannon toward the shore and give those imperials something to think about!

Can you share the vendor?  I've gotten a few of the orange BAM pirate torso's and have started a small imperial faction with them.  I have an extra of the Creator Pirate Ship and have been thinking of modifying it for them.  Still not sure what path I'll take as far as sails, but would love to have that information for when I do.

Thanks! I have added a 1795 Imperial Cannon in the far right hand corner of the cabinet so it might be a bad idea to turn the cannon for the pirates. They have sailed into a trap!
