I wonder which CMF series, ever, was the most successful. Although we know that Lego doesn't share their sales numbers. I'm guessing it's an IP set. But I also wonder about the non-IP sets.

Of recent CMFs, I think D&D has probably been the most popular. They all disappeared very quickly, and despite regular restocks from several different stores, continued to sell out regularly.

Non-IP - maybe Series 10 has a bit of an edge due to the Mr. Gold chase? Don't know if I would put money on that, though.

There's definitely been some notable IP bombs, though - Simpsons 2 wasn't good, F1 still hasn't been able to sell near me, and Looney Tunes also struggled near me. Series 23 was also not super popular.

I really do think that some series has appeal for some of its reusable parts. Looney Tunes was just so specific to Looney Tunes fans.

They also banked on the Space Jam sequel getting a younger audience interested in the characters and then the movie kinda flopped.

Harry Potter series 1 probably has the best odds because it’s a popular IP and has one of (if not the) largest number of unique characters in a single series at 22. Although since Disney has gotten 3 separate series (the most of any IP), they’ve probably done well in the past too. Any recent series with 12 slots is going to have trouble selling more units than the old ones that had 16 or more.

I am not so sure about that actually. Harry Potter was quite some time ago and I would actually think that since than overall interest for this kind of figures has spiked, not only by normal costumers but also there are way more resellers out there nowadays. The D&D series has been avaiable on way more places than those series, and also some where no other series was avaiable here.

On an other note, those series are a one off production and then they are getting sold without any reproduction based on the demand - that beeing said, the F1 series might not be doing that bad, especially given that I saw a lot displays out there on even more places than the D&D series. So it might aswell be that one having the most sales, but as mentioned above, as they are not produced based on demand (at best estimated one) I probably wouldn´t base success on sales numbers here, since everything gets sold with the right discounts.
