DisneyLego Posted March 29 Posted March 29 The smaller 101 Dalmatians set just leaked. It’s cute, but now I’m really curious to see the 18+ set Quote

strangely Posted March 29 Posted March 29 New Elementary dropped their review for the BATB castle and it included a designer interview. Belle's blue dress was cut for budget reasons, the wardrobe was originally designed to reveal her yellow dress. Quote
OttoRiver Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I think that's one of my favorite developer insights they've done. Interesting that they did have it in grey and changed it because it read as too gloomy and that the Disney Parks version was one of the bigger references for the shape. My question though is, Belle in her yellow dress already existed in the Disney100 set and is currently still in print. Couldn't they have reused that figure to save money, same as Snow, the Prince, and Old Hag for the Dwarves Cottage? Still would have needed a new hair mold but bummed it ended up on the cutting room floor. Quote

Was just about to say the same thing!!! do these large brick built sets sell really that well? I would think that if mini figures were included, or it were an outright mini figure – based set, it would sell even better! Quote

I swear they literally changed the print from the Belle in the Magic of Disney set to this one to entice minifigure collectors. Don't tell me they didn't know they were doing this set when the first Belle came out. Not everybody will need to have the 'best' Belle obviously, but some people will only want Belle and now, even if they already bought the Magic of Disney set just to get Belle, they will have to get the castle to get the most detailed version of her. It's like Star Wars minifigures that are essentially the same, just with extra arm prints or dual moulded legs. If they had put village Belle in the castle that would have enticed a lot of people sure, but perhaps not as many as those looking for the signature yellow dress minifigure in it's most detailed form. Having two versions of her out in the same outfit in such a short time frame just doesn't make sense otherwise from a production standpoint to me and also, makes the design of the first Belle look lazy to be honest. Characters getting updated and more detailed prints makes sense when there is years between production, but this close it makes it look like the graphics of the first Belle were rushed and not done to the best capacity for the time. domitim Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I would like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Mary Poppins! Quote

As much as I would love to see The Nautilus submarine, it probably won't happen. The LEGO Ideas projects for those were not selected (in Mary Poppins case, several times!) so I don't think either Lego or Disney want to do them. We have about as much chance as getting sets from those films as getting the Ulysses from Atlantis: The Lost Empire or the General and Texas steam locos from The Great Locomotive Chase. (my two personal picks for dream sets) Basically, it just isn't gonna happen. Sorry @domitim. Edited March 31 by Murdoch17 Quote

The Ideas set has been rejected over and over which doesn't bode well for an actual set though. Lego's never even made a set for The Wizard of Oz, which would hold even more commercial appeal, so it doesn't seem they have much faith in a Mary Poppins set either. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Apparently, 43277 is gonna be Cruella‘s car, with 378 pieces, scheduled for September. Fingers crossed we get that facial expression (you know the one) Quote
BacktoBricks Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Do you think baby elephant in the sky means a buildable Dumbo? I'm surprised there is apparently going to be another Disney Princess Advent Calender. The last one didn't sell well at all from what I can see. Quote

brickbride Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) The usual place has a breakdown of recent rumours by whether they're expected to be real. The Disney Princess advent calendar goes under "previously mentioned". Colour me surprised that they'd chance another one; the last one was heavily discounted by LEGO on their own website (as was the Spider-Man one but those were the only ones I can recall, and it's already been rumoured that Marvel won't get one this year). Also, Disney has a target group that overlaps a lot with that of Friends, and several stores in my area had 2023's Friends AC on the shelves next to the 2024 one last year so I'm not sure why LEGO would want to cannibalize their sales even further. But we'll see. Edited April 2 by brickbride Quote
RichardGoring Posted April 2 Posted April 2 If they do full minidolls in the Disney calendar then I suspect it could be very successful. The issue with the one last year was trying to get ALL the princesses in, and they didn't want to undermine all the other sets by making them minidolls. But if they focus on just two or three and then some supporting characters, they could probably do something more impressive and set up a nice series over a couple of years. Quote

Given the piece count, I wouldn't hold my breath for much. Cruella is most likely the only figure with 2 or 3 puppies (maybe a Pongo or Perdita if Disney is feeling generous) Don't know what the renewed interest in 101 Dalmatians is about with 3 Lego sets this year but I'll take what I can get. Yeah it is weird. Cruella's dress, the two puppies, the 18+ Puppies build and now Cruella's Car. Assuming that Cruella's Car wasn't the 18+ set all along. Still even 3 sets is quite a lot when there's no new movie or anniversary. Quote
doclord Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I think between the dogs and Cruella herself it's just a good merch movie? She's always showing up in Disney Villain merch and programs so I assume she just sells well. Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted April 3 Posted April 3 101 Dalmatians is the second-highest grossing Disney movie of all time when you account for inflation, after Snow White. There's a reason it got a TV series, live-action remake and a sequel back in the 90s. I remember it was one of the most promoted Disney movies back then, constantly getting merchandise on the puppies. Cruella was also considered Disney's most popular villain in the 90s, with only Ursula coming in as a close second. I think now Maleficent has eclipsed her but Cruella is probably still a close second or third. Quote

hikouki Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Apart from that Cruella set that is *potentially* minifig-based, are we getting any other potential or confirmed minifig sets this year? Quote
