What an idea:iamded_lol:: instead of the Astronomy Tower, LEGO could go for the DADA Tower plus the Dark Tower with Sirius and Buckbeak :oh:.

What are the missing big creatures until now in this reboot of the theme? Buckbeak, but I don't know if it counts as big; Hungarian Horntail, but he better matches with a ground set with the First Challenge; Grawp, but he appeares only in the Forbidden Forest; Giants, but I don't really remember how they appear at the Battle of Hogwarts adn if they could match well with a castle expansion like Astronomy Tower - where I think it will likely  be put Ravenclaw Common Room. So I think there could also not be a big creature in the set.

As for the minor teachers, the only missing ones I suppose are Bathsheda Babbling and Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank. And, of course, Carrows.

Another missing teacher AND ghost is Binns... as likely as the others, I'd argue (we got Kettleburn)...

Lovegood piece count also makes sense with it being a doll house like set. A room for the kitchen on the first floor and probably Luna's bedroom above, maybe one other room but there isn't much to go on from movie content.

Probably a washroom with a toilet again.

Kettleburn’s appearance was canonised after the fact, but they can‘t do the same with Binns, unless there‘s a random background ghost they can now claim was him  Then again, they could just make up a design, like they did with other characters before, like the unseen shopkeepers and employees.

It’s a stretch but I think i remember some people have speculated that the ghost briefly seen sat in the Transfiguration classroom in the first movie when the trio rush to tell McGonagall about the stone being stolen could be the professor.

Thinking about the Starwars Gingerbread AT-AT, what festive sets could they do for Harry Potter?

Pumpkin for Halloween?

Gingerbread Great Hall?

Harry Potter is better set up for normal sets being festive themed since Harry Potter exists within the existing holiday calendar. Plenty of holidays are seen celebrated at Hogwarts in the movies.

Also SW is the only theme that gets novelty sets based on Holidays and even then not every year.

I don't know. A gingerbread war tank and evtl villain in a cute Christmas outfit are hilarious in my opinion. I do not feel like this about Harry Potter.

They're expanding- SW didn't used to have retail Christmas sets aside from the calendar. The 2023 set was a lego tv special tie-in based on the in-universe "life day" holiday. The AT-AT this year is our first publicly availible, explicitly Christmas/Earth Holiday based non-calendar set (I'm excluding them because plenty of themes get them).

More importantly, there's a Christmas Hulkbuster from Marvel this year if I'm remembering correctly.

Now all that said, I agree with you that it would make more sense for Harry Potter just to have normal sets with the students celebrating those holidays, since they really exist in Harry Potter. A big Harry Potter Christmas Tree with Weasleys in sweaters would be just a normal canon set.

And maybe we could combine it with LEGO Marvel's Venom obsession and have a Venomized Gingerbread Dumbledore? Hard pass for me.

In other news, the EUR 1000 Death Star (or Death Disc really) has a GWP (TIE Fighter) that's clearly meant to be part of the set, it's on product photos and everything. Do you think that's the future of set-specific GWPs - day one buyers get to complete their sets at the cost of foregoing any discounts, and everyone else (including those day one buyers who didn't manage to snag a GWP due to availability issues) effectively has an incomplete set?

The Gringotts set had a vault that could be added to it, but it didn't feel incomplete without it. Whereas with the Death Star, there's a space clearly set aside for the GWP to be added that otherwise remains empty.

I would also like to see that, ideally with more gingerbread minifigs! :sweet: This should be its own mini subtheme

I can imagine an entire gingerbread CMF: Gingerbread Santa, Gingerbread pirate, Gingerbread Policeman, Gingerbread witch, Gingerbread bear costume, Gingerbread baker/chef, Gingerbread ninja, Gingerbread dinosaur costume, Gingerbread snowman, Gingerbread Knight, Gingerbread mum & baby, Gingerbread Astronaut, Gingerbread dog owner with gingerbread dog! Gingerbread werewolf! etc all on exclusive gingerbread printed stands 😄

I got the Death Star early through LAN and I actually prefer it without the GWP. The empty space makes the hangar feel grander and more epic. Also while I love the Death Star set the GWP is ugly imo

I personally much prefer the way Harry Potter has done their GWPs, where you do not need to buy the actual collectors set to get the GWP. I'd be really bummed if they changed that.

Harry Potter polybag next year apparently is 30724: Dumbledore’s Office with Harry – 42 pieces. Best candidates for the specific scene would either CoS (meaning we could get Fawkes in a polybag!) or GoF with the pensieve (although there also pensieve scenes in HBP and DH2 that could work I suppose).

Well this would actually be a good polybag to include one of the portraits - just that now you would have to buy several and hope for your luck.

You can't really make Lego HP sets without some castle sets. I mean the series mainly takes place in a castle.

I think we all expect Lego to mix movie and TV sets together for a while, so it wouldn't be surprising if the TV sets are whatever book is currently coming out and the movie sets are the later movies so as not to have two different PS, COS, etc... themed sets out there. I could easily see a new King's Cross in 2027 or maybe they release a zoo themed set since it is confirmed Piers Polkiss appears in the TV series. Rumors have WB doing more pre-Hogwarts scenes than in the movies.

The only way I could see them doing both at the same time, is either they make a smaller hogwarts again (like the 2018 one), with one or two sets each year based on the films, and some playsets based on the series. Or they keep doing the next castle again, and only a small number of series Sets - but I actually wouldn´t be surprised if Warner would want to concentrate on the new series, so I think the first option is the more likely one, if we are really expecting both a hogwarts castle of the movies and series sets on the same time. Personally I wouldn´t be surprised if they omit the castle completely and concentrate on the series, with only a small number of sets based on the films, like the D2C sets for instance.

Also has anyone else seen the leak about "Smart Play" being meant to play a large role across several LEGO theme in the future? Between the likely pricing (look at the Sorting Hat and some Star Wars leaks!) and the fact that I'd like for both myself and the kids to retain at least one hobby that doesn't involve an app, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to that.

We are not even sure if you need an app for it though - there will likely be options and cases where you do, but as far as I understood, the system was also meant for bricks to interact with the smart brick, which IMO would be a good option to include interactive play without the need of an app - but we will see.

I really hope the new poly bag, 30724 Dumbledore’s Office, has the new collectible portraits! I’ve only built a couple of the new sets (if only I had a bigger home to display all my sets!) and I already have duplicates :hmpf:

The poly bags were how I completed my collectible frog card collection after numerous duplicates - even though I had every set, and some sets I had multiples of, I still had to search through poly bags for the last 4 cards I was missing.

Yes, but like I stated above your comment, the problem is with the paperbags you can´t see what is inside anymore and so you have to hope for your luck there aswell - still of course it is better than nothing and would at least make them avaiable for a cheaper price - and hopefully there are some usefull parts included at least for people that buy several pieces. Anyways, not thrilled to get Harry in the second Polybag after another (or to get him there at all really)

Those of us in the US are still on plastic bags :)

Oh interesting. You got no paperbags at all? Or just in Sets yet? Here all polybags are Paperbags now - not sure if sets are completely switched to paperbags now, but at least most sets have them inside now.

Some sets in Canada have paper bags but I would say most are still plastic and all the poly bags are still plastic - I have yet to see a paper polybag. The most recent sets I built were the potions classroom, dueling club and Hagrids Hut - all were plastic bags. I think some of my daughter’s Animal Crossing sets had paper bags. Collectable mini figures have been in cardboard boxes for a while.

Do we have any data on how well the castle does?

No, as TLG never communicate how well individual sets are selling. Anecdotal evidence is there, but we might as well ask the Magic Conch Shell, about as reliable :laugh_hard:

What’s people’s thoughts on the ‘potions cauldron’ set, I assume is going to be similar to many of the ‘dolls’ playsets from Disney etc, boxes which opens with rooms inside. I hope it has Slughorn and a year 5 Shamus for some variety.

what else could they do after that and the two trunks?
plant-pot- Herbology lesson?

crystal ball- Divination?

Well my first thought was that it would be something similar to the Hogwarts Moments Classrooms and the House Banners. And basically that is still what I think - we will have to see how big it turns out, of course I would expect more space so hopefully it can just be opened and closed without the need to play tetris to put everything together - but overall many of the parts will probably be needed to build the cauldron itself.

If they are going to do Herbology, I can´t see them just using a simple plant pot, at least not if there isn´t a mandrake inside ;).

If we hadn´t just got a Monster Book I would suggest that one for Care of Magical creatures.

Something like that, maybe? The first one's Disney (Moana's Flowerpot), the second Wednesday (The Black Dahlia). Just exchange the flower for some steam or bubbles and you're good. :-)
