Lyichir Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 (edited) By the way, recently the Lego Mario app updated to include instructions for all the new sets. Those also revealed a Toad (Pit Crew) polybag set—nothing special, just one of the pit crew Toads like in 72032 with a small computer build and a handcart with one of the purple and yellow wheels from 72036. I used those instructions to update my digital builds of the karts so far, in part to help me explore what kinds of recolors you could do for some of the karts that vary based on their drivers. So far I've had the most luck with the Standard Kart and Standard Bike, with a Luigi version of the Standard Kart and both Mario and Luigi versions of the Standard Bike. Other recolors are a little harder... Peach versions would be my priority since she's the other digi-fig so far but needing all of the necessary parts to come in the same color of pink can be slightly challenging. VinnieCannoli Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I missed a lot of this series, but I saw some people saying that it's better not to buy an electronic Mario in late 2024 because there "was" a chance they'll release a new version that can be charged. Is that true? I think it might be just a rumor. I was going to get a basic mario but not sure if i should wait or not Quote

I was going to get a basic mario but not sure if i should wait or not In early 2024 there were rumors of them doing something like that, but then the revised starter packs came out in late 2024 using the same non-rechargeable digi-figs, so I think it's unlikely that they'll do another refresh so soon. By the way, I got my first one of the Mario Kart sets today—decided to start with the Baby Mario and Baby Luigi set since it's a nice cheap one that'll pair well with the digi-figs I have. The builds of both karts are great, really cute and accurate to the game. Love the Baby Mario and Baby Luigi figs as well. Just updated the Lego Mario fig to test out the two karts—I appreciate that they have different engine sounds between the two. Quote
Izzynufc-2 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I’m still waiting for the summer 2024 piece counts Quote
Portal Out Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Oh my gosh, the $70 set is a Gameboy! This is genuinely the best case scenario, I’m so excited. The teaser shows two purple studs really prominently, any idea what those could be for? Seeing those originally made me think it was going to be a SNES. Quote

Also, wasn't there a Mario 18+ set supposed to come out in July thats like $170? As for the usual minifigs conversation, I finally managed to make a pad printed Peach minifig so I've given up on that as far as Mario Lego goes. I just hope the august sets are playsets! I loved the way they did the boo mansion and tree. Quote
a_clay_brick Posted January 9 Posted January 9 According to Brick Tap sources, it is 72046. The build will feature a Game Boy Quote

JohnTPT17 Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) I have no connection to the original Gameboy - only the Advance, and even then I only played a few basic games on there. I wonder if the mention of it "featuring" a Gameboy means anything? Will it include game cartridges, like the NES? A stand for display? Or am I reading into it too much? Lyichir Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Built the Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo set. Generally a very fun build, and distinctive since it's the only kart for a heavyweight character and the only one not based on Mario Kart 8 (being based on DK's signature kart from Double Dash instead, hence the rear rollbar that a character can hold onto). Hitting the target with the shell launcher is surprisingly tricky. While I generally don't mind stickers, a part of me does wish that the 2x2 tiles for the wheel hubs in these sets had been printed since it'd ensure that the decorations were consistently oriented the same (something that doesn't matter when used for wheel hubs like this but would be beneficial if you wanted to reuse them for something else). Square or rectangular stickers are easy to orient consistently, but round stickers on round parts less so. I haven't made a ton of progress with custom karts on Stud.io. I have versions of the Cat Cruiser and Tanooki Kart partially done (which I picked since they were nice looking "signature karts" for digi-fig power-ups that already existed). I wish I could come up with more though... it'd be great to come up with custom karts for other distinctive Mario Kart characters like Toadette, Birdo, and Funky Kong who exist in Lego already. Quote
Izzynufc-2 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 (edited) So I’ve found out that 72037 The Lego Mario Kart D2C is $169.99 with 1972 pieces 72038 is a Maker set with 512 pieces is $49.99 72046 Game Boy has 421 and is $59.99 I think the maker set could be a Mario Kart customisation for the option to swap and change wheels. Takanuinuva Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Game Boy is overpriced IMHO. Especially if it's scaled correctly. (Only way it could be worth that is if it had minifigures) Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I wonder which of the karts they’ll pick for the D2C model. Kinda has to be either the standard kart or the B Dasher Quote

A Mario Kart maker kit could be interesting... I'd be especially interested if it had additional gliders (since the only one in the sets is specific to Mario, so having ones for characters like Luigi or Peach or less character-specific ones like the parasol, cloud glider, or parafoil would be nice). More track barriers and start/finish lines based on iconic course types like Bowser's Castle or Rainbow Road would also be fun, though less essential (since compared to foil parts like gliders, track sections are easy enough to MOC). Not sure what sort of karts would be most appropriate for a set like that... maybe something the classic Pipe Frame (a kart from more recent games that's based on the stripped down go-karts from Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64). By the way, since my last post here I built the Baby Peach and Grand Prix set. Very pleased with the three karts in it, and Baby Peach is a very cute new character build. Quote

Lyichir Posted February 22 Posted February 22 It just occurred to me that it's probably not too long until we get a look at at least some of the summer Mario sets (if they do a reveal on Mar10 day like they did last year). Quote

Almost guaranteed. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think they’ve made an announcement or revealed some sets each March 10th since the theme was born! It’s kind of a tradition now, even the announcement of the theme itself was made on that day in 2020 Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Surprised nobody‘s talking about the leaked (?) D2C set! That buildable Mario looks absolutely fantastic! Quote
RichardGoring Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Well, at least I don't desperately want the Nintendo D2C sets because I don't really know Zelda that well and... [Mario leak] ...and well I will definitely be getting the Nintendo D2C set! Looks amazing. Took me a moment to realize that it was LEGO. It's so well done. I wonder if Mario will be removable from the kart. And will he scale with Bowser? Quote
Kaijumeister Posted March 5 Posted March 5 That is genuinely a perfect set It does make me lament how good a minifigure-scaled Mario Kart line could have been, I wish Lego could divulge why such an option is completely off the table but I guess it doesn’t matter. Back on topic, this’ll be the first Nintendo D2C I buy since the ? Block released. Speechless at how good it looks. Quote
Lyichir Posted March 5 Posted March 5 It looks good! Should be good inspiration for MOCs too... an easy one would probably be making an alternate opened hand pose for him to throw brick-built bananas/Bob-ombs/Koopa shells. Slightly harder would be making other scaled characters like Luigi (since this Mario's face relies on a specialized nose/moustache piece as the finishing touch). Looking forward to the full reveal (and hopefully a look at the other summer sets as well) next Monday! 14 hours ago, Kaijumeister said: That is genuinely a perfect set It does make me lament how good a minifigure-scaled Mario Kart line could have been, I wish Lego could divulge why such an option is completely off the table but I guess it doesn’t matter. I still don't really agree that a minifigure-based Mario Kart line would be that much better... a smaller scale would mean less potential for detail/variety on the karts (and ESPECIALLY on smaller vehicles like bikes).
